That probably explains the possible pains then if you have/suspect celiac. They make some gluten free beer. My husband (also a celiac) say it taste just like regular beer. I can't think of the name right now, but I know Kroger sells it( it is in bottles).

ARCHIVED 7Yr Old Gluten Free
Skysmom03 replied to Jen85's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the last two comments. Get the endoscopy. My son had one and he did very well. He even wanted to go to school when we left. And they are also right about the school not having to accommodate. The only way to "officially" diagnose Celiac is through a endoscopy. The school will not do a 504 until they have an official diagnosis from the... -
Beer is made from wheat.... I hope it is gluten free beer you are drinking.

The doctor told me that if my son is going to have issues/pains from his celiac it would be in the area up and around where your rib cage ends and your stomach area begins. That high part.....

ARCHIVED A Question About Malabsorption:
Skysmom03 replied to tylerevelyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would suggest a doctor's appt. this is a serious disease with serious side effects from not getting proper nutrition after the diet. There is a real risk and many people know so little about it. Just because there is no medicine to cure it doesnt mean it is safe people to walk around self disgnosing without having a doctor look into the possiblity of... -
ARCHIVED Doctor Questioning My Diagnosis Of Celiac
Skysmom03 replied to Mrs. M.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would have the endoscopy done. I am a fi believer that the doctors need to do it for a reason! Ditto on first degree relatives. My husband and son both have it. My son had absolutely no symptoms and doesn't "look" Celiac at all. And we only checked it because my husband almost died from his. He (my son)has had it for three years doctor believes-... -
ARCHIVED Hematuria & Gluten Intolerance?
Skysmom03 replied to Janice1014's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would not self diagnose. Sounds like something other than celiac. You could be doing more harm to yourself by not having more invasive testing done. Has your GP not recommended that? Just my opinion, but that's what I would do. Celiac is quite serious and even if you do have it and are"treating" it right now, you could have some other issues related... -
ARCHIVED I Am The Minority!
Skysmom03 replied to Skysmom03's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well I hope that is correct. I really don't want him to have type 1 but I know it is a possibility. We have never had thd testing done. We went right for the antibody test at the first physical after my hub's diagnosis. How long has she had it? Hopefully you and your husband can be spared. Do you get tested for it regularly or are you just waiting... -
My son has ADHD and scored "lower" on long term memory 92 even though his full scale IQ is 118. The doctor believes that his celiac was triggered two to three years ago which was exactly when we noticed a huge drop in reading scores and reading comprehension. Math no problems at all. All other scores at or above grade level. Reading/ memory in the second...

ARCHIVED 2 Months In And Frustrated!
Skysmom03 replied to glutenfree015's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would have the endoscopy or a colonoscopy done. That way they can look for other things besides just celiac. Could be that you are one of those few people who have to take steroids to see an improvement..... But that will never happen until they can get in there and check things out. -
ARCHIVED Online Weight Loss Support?

Be careful. Some people gain weight on the diet. My husband gained 60 lbs and my son is also gaining weight. Good luck!! -
ARCHIVED Pediatrician Won't Test For Celiac
Skysmom03 replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We did the exact same thing. My ped was fine with it because she said some people have it and dont even realize it. She said that 1st degree relatives need to get tested because of the risk of lymphoma , melanoma, and other cancers. My son had no symptoms either .... Sue enough his blood test was positive and according to biopsy results the GI believes... -
ARCHIVED Outgrowing Celiac
Skysmom03 replied to lipreader's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't feel the risk of lymphoma or melanoma or another type of cancer is worth the risk of letting my child eat gluten again. Even if he has no symptoms from eating it one or twice .... Could just be that he isn't that "sensitive" to it. -
I have to Agree with nv. Have you asked about Alopecia? It is another type of autoimmune disease where there is hair loss.

ARCHIVED I Am The Minority!
Skysmom03 replied to Skysmom03's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah.... They didn't really want to write one and probably would have talked an ordinary person out of the need for it, but I taught sixth grade for 14 years ( now the media specialist) and my husband has taught for 22 years, so we knew the importance of having one and why and that they legally could not deny us one. -
ARCHIVED Newbie Questions
Skysmom03 replied to jonny00's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people are gluten intolerant but don't have celiac.... Which basically just means that their intestines aren't being damaged by the gluten. Celiac is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself. My husband has had it for years but only found out a year ago. My son has it and we only found out because we checked him because of my husband ... -
ARCHIVED Is It Possibly Celiac/gluten Intolerance?
Skysmom03 replied to kaneco's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would stick with the gluten. Not eating it will sku your blood test results. -
ARCHIVED What Did I Eat Wrong?
Skysmom03 replied to DavinaRN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That isn't necessarily true. There are false positives. There is a reason the drs make you do the endoscopy. That is the only thing that confirms diagnosis. If blood work was all it took there would be no need for her to even go to the specialist. Also the endoscopy can also indicate whether there are other issues other than the celiac. -
ARCHIVED I Am The Minority!
Skysmom03 replied to Skysmom03's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No not much trouble with friends but then again he has only had to worry about this for three weeks. He has a 504, so there are guidelines they must follow. We pack his lunch and he has a goody stash there for treat days. He also knows what ice creams he is allowed to have on ice cream days. He is a little older and he understands for the most part what... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Eat Wrong?
Skysmom03 replied to DavinaRN's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would stay away from foreign foods in restaurants! I would do thd endoscopy. It is better to know. No reasOn to do the diet if you don't really have to. -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test - Negative Biopsy
Skysmom03 replied to Luci's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could it be that you have Latent Celiac Sprue? Positive blood test but no symptoms and no signs of damage to the intestines? I would inquire about that. -
ARCHIVED What Can I Expect?
Skysmom03 replied to Kat L's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't start the diet yet! It can sku the results! Blood test can be unreliable. It is best to see what your GI dr says. My son and husband both had endoscopes done to confirm diagnosis. The point of having the exams to make sure that you do have it. There is no point in you going gluten free if you don't have to. It is not an easy diet. With that... -

Wow.... If that isn't proof fight there that the rest of my husband's family shouldn't get check out I don't know what is!! I am assuming some of those are school-aged children. Do you have any issues at school with friends and teachers and so forth? -
ARCHIVED A Relative Is Diagnosed Celiac- Won't Go Gluten-Free
Skysmom03 replied to LeahBanicki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband got really sick like that before he found out. So sick that he would do anything to feel better. I completely in my mind believe that he would have died within a week if they had not discovered the results of the blood test when they did. He was told to go gluten free before they even confirmed with thd endoscopy. It may take her hitting rock... -
I am the minority in my household. My husband and son both have celiac disease. My husband had it for years ( he is also a type 1 diabetic) and he became really sick, lost 40lbs ( he only weighed 145 to start with) when they finally discovered it. He had gotten so bad, he was told to start the gluten free diet even before the endoscopy. Apparently ,...
