  1. We're hoping to go to either Copper Mtn or Vail in March, and we'd like to enroll our 5 yr old celiac in ski school. Has anyone had any experience with kids' ski school and gluten-free eating in either place? The all-day lessons include lunch, and I'm fine to send lunch with her if no options are available, but I'm not sure the ski school will accomodate...
  2. We will be travelling to South Africa in December. We have been there a couple of times, but this will be our first trip there since my 4 year old was dx'd. Does anyone have any experience with finding gluten-free food in supermarkets or restaurants there, particularly in Cape Town and Johannesburg? I am not even sure if there are any health food stores...
  3. I guess I am confused about the "vinegar" which I thought was okay. This is what I found last night: "Grey Poupon 1-800-622-4726 (Nabisco says that their white distilled vinegar source changes and may sometimes include the use of gluten grains)"
  4. My daughter (2 1/2) was dx 2 wks ago and we are leaving for a family vacation this week (LA area), where we will have to eat out at least a few nights. What do I ask when eating out at a regular restaurant, especially where the words "celiac" and "gluten-free" may as well be Greek to most people? Should I question every ingredient/brand/pan used etc...
  5. I am very new to the gluten-free diet - my 2 1/2 yr old was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I have the "safe" list and "forbidden" lists of ingredients, and I also have the 79-page list of foods by manufacturer that are gluten-free, but after reading posts on this board, I am even more confused. If all the ingredients listed on a product are on the...
  6. Until now, I wasn't aware that there is more than one test for celiac disease. I will have to check with my doctor to see what tests he ran. Could it be that I simply had a short-lived wheat intolerance as a child and my daughter has celiac disease; would the 2 be related, or is it just coincidence? After all that I have read, it seems that there is...
  7. Thanks to everyone for all the good advice and support. I did find some great gluten-free foods at Whole Foods; still overwhelmed by the ingredients in food not labelled gluten free, but I have been reading the lists of safe and unsafe ingredients and I'm sure in time I'll know it well. Has anyone seen any of the 3 ped GI's at Green's Columbia center...
  8. My 2 year old was just diagnosed after having a biopsy. The pediatrician considered celiac disease when she had not been gaining weight and after I told her that I "had Celiac Disease" as a child. (My mother recently told me that she was told in the 60's that I had it, though they never did any test for it, and that I "outgrew it".) I immediately went...
  9. My 2 1/2 yr old was just diagnosed with celiac disease, after having no "symptoms" but not gaining weight for many, many months. My husband and I have lots of questions and the pediatric GI basically gave us the diagnosis and dismissed our questions with a quick "look on the web". We would really like to sit down with someone who is knowledgable about...
