  1. I'm just awaiting my lab results and have been wondering - why is it so often recommended to go get a biopsy if the bloodwork comes back positive? Especially if it's really positive. I know the biopsy is the 'gold standard", and I understand the importance of doing it if there are symptoms and the bloodwork is negative because there can still be damage...
  2. I couldn't read and not post. I wish I had more to offer you though than some hugs and prayers. One thing that you might consider is looking into 'food combining' to see if this is why you are so sensitive to so many foods. The idea is that certain food categories (fats, proteins, carbs) are best eaten alone or in combo with only one other category...
  3. I would make an appt with a pediatric GI doctor asap if you haven't already... you might know all of this already, but just in case you don't - the blood tests are most often used as a precurser to an intestinal biopsy to confirm a celiac diagnosis. Both elevated gliadin antibodies and low iron are consistent with celiac disease so they will most likely...
  4. Your experience sounds just like my poor sister who eventually ended up being diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease. Have you had a Lyme test (the western blot version)? As far as celiac goes, some newer studies have indicated that a biopsy is not always necessary to get a diagnosis, but I doubt many doctors know this. I'd get some comprehensive blood...
  5. Do you mean that your state prohibits any other person at the doctor's office (besides the doctor) to give results? What I usually do is request that a duplicate report is sent directly to me from the lab as well as to the doctor. This way, I sometimes even get results before the doctor sees them. Plus I don't have to bug the doctor for a copy either...
  6. I'm so sorry to hear about all of your frustrations - they are certainly understandable:( please don't let your doctor shame you into feeling like you shouldn't be taking charge of your health and researching things yourself - a doctor/patient relationship is a partnership and you should be respected if you have the desire to more fully understand your...
  7. I wrote a detailed post in response yesterday, but for some reason it didn't post! Anyway - quick summary - especially as a parent, I have recently come to the conclusion that it *is* important to seek a diagnosis if symptoms are present. First, it's helpful if your child ever has symptoms or any medical issues that seem to perplex the doctors....
  8. Sorry to hear that you're struggling so much - if you still have the rash, you might consider having a knowledgeable doctor/dermatologist take a look as if you do have celiac disease, it could be dermatitis herpetiformis (the celiac rash). If I understand this correctly, in cases of dermatitis herpetiformis, a positive skin biopsy gives the same unequivocal...
  9. Thanks so much! That was a really helpful link!
  10. Hi there! I'm new here and have been searching for answers for many years for my own health issues and my husband's GI issues, but now my kids have things going on and I am determined to get answers!! I won't go into any specifics here but I wanted to first try to understand the genetics aspect - I do know that it's not a diagnostic tool, but that it...
