My dh and I would like to have a night out together and our gluten-free rest. are limited in our area. I've eaten gluten-free at Carraba's but I've recently started noticing that I'm have trouble with dairy when I eat it at home.

Has anyone with dairy issues eaten at Carraba's and done OK. Can you make any suggestion?

    Thanks!! :)

I've only been there once, but it was a great experience. We went to the one in Kansas City. The chef came out to our table to talk to us because our waitress told her that we had requested gluten free menus. I didn't have to ask for this.

I had the Insalata Johnny Rocco without the cheese or croutons. They verified the dressing was gluten and casein free for me (I'm casein intollerant as well). They made sure it was mixed in a fresh bowl as well (the menu says to mention it). It's a salad with shrimp, scallops, roasted red peppers and olives. It was delicious and I was pain/symptoms free afterward as well.

Just a warning. Even though the chicken soup is on the gluten free menu, the chef told us that she couldn't guarantee that there was no contamination because it's made in the same area of the kitchen where they're using flour. There could be some airborn flour that got into the soup. At least I felt very confident about the cook's understanding of the issue so that was great!!

    Overall, an amazing experience.

I used to eat there all the time (love the French onion soup and fries), but now I don't know if I can eat there at all. Anyone have any experiences there?

I ate at a TGI Friday's last month in Niagara Falls. It was wonderful. The waitress and manager were going out of their way to check everything for us. I ordered the chicken breast sandwich without any seasoning or bun. I asked for an uncut piece of lettuce to wrap it in and I just ate the chicken wrapped in the lettuce like it was a burger. I actually felt normal. I asked for a salad instead of potatoes and they gladly accomodated. I always use oil and vinegar in restaurants so that I won't have to worry about the salad dressings. No crutons put on it like they often do in other restaurants. They laughed when I commented. They couldn't believe that people are clueless enough to do that. I had no problems later either. I suffer for 2 weeks when glutened (or caseined or riced or sugared) and I enjoyed the rest of my trip with no ill effects so I'd say I didn't get glutened.

  3. I was diagnosed with a candida (yeast) overgrowth and lack of healthy bacteria via stool tests. Even with anti-fungal meds, high dose of probiotics and a low carb diet the yeast won't get under control. I've only been gluten-free a few months and what my GI doc explained to me is that my immune system does not currently seem to be strong enough to keep the yeast under control. He's continuing the current treatment with the hopes that once my system starts healing from the damage of years of gluten that my immune system will be able to fight the overgrowth and get back to the normal balance of what should be in my gut.
