  1. Oh yes, I felt quite sorry for myself. The same as you, other than feeling tired and sick, I look quite healthy so the doctor never really tracked it down until this year. It gets easier once you start feeling better and you know that if you eat the gluten, no matter how good it looks, you won't want to eat it because you'll remember what it felt like to...
  2. Hi Newbie, I know how you feel I am going through exactly the same things. I am in the beginning stages of being gluten free so still have the terrible pain in my side and my headaches, etc. etc.. I was watching my co-workers last week partake in Pizza and boy did it look good! Some days I wake up and think it's ok, I'll get better and I can do this...
  3. Hi Sylvia, I can understand the worry about cross contamination, I don't think anyone truly understand the pain it can cause unless they've been through it themselves and therefore aren't quite as careful as someone who is completely educated about it. Are there any support groups in your area? While in the hospital maybe you could drum up some support...
  4. It was my kidney stones and their removal that finally led to my dx for Celiac. My back pain just simply never went away. I've read kidney stones can be common due to poor calcium absorption. Going wheat free my diarrhea went away, unless I had an accidental ingestion of gluten. My nutritionist says the same as Mariann, drink distilled water. Good luck...
  5. Hi Jen, I'm getting ready myself to go on an allergy elimination diet and cannot have eggs while I do that. When I add them back in I'll be able to tell if I can take it or not. I have grown not to trust lab tests so I'm in the mindset to listen to my body. Good luck ! Mariann.......you have such wonderful information, we're lucky to have you here...
  6. Laurie anne, If you are seriously going to be tested for Celiac you can't go off wheat yet, because it can cause a false positive. I had been off but they made me go back on for the biopsy and to be honest after being off gluten for 3 months, I was even more sensitive . If you don't care about the diagnosis then by all means, stay off the gluten, dairy...
  7. Liz, Hopefully your son can come here for some support. I too have problems with raw vegetables, I'm too sensitive at this time. I also can't handle dairy for now. I find I feel much better if I'm not eating any pre-fab foods. I personally can't eat at a salad bar because of the stuff they spray to keep it fresh, makes me very ill. It's very frustrating...
  8. Hi there, I tried Silk brand soy yogurt the other day and it was very good. I tried the blueberry, but will definitely buy it again. Yum, all is not lost. Thanks you guys! Lily
  9. Knudsen brand juices come highly recommended from my nutritionist and I love the apple - it tastes like cider. I bought others to try, but I think you'll like it. Good luck, Lily

    ARCHIVED Joint Pain

I too have suffered from joint pain forever it seems. My nutritionist said that with the food allergies, one of the first things that happen is those free radicals running around in the body attack the joints. Has Celiac been caught before permanent damage is done? Theres a good question. She also told me I'll never be able to tolerate tomatoes (what...
  11. Great info! Thanks Jessica!!!!
  12. Thanks for the information! Sarah, I appreciate the breakdown between lactose and casein, I thought they were the same thing. Lily
  13. My doctor says that if you have flattened villi you are lactose intolerant. I guess the end of those villi produce the needed enzyme to digest dairy. Does anyone know if the villi grow back? I like cheese so will miss it. I've heard there is rice cheese and soy cheese, anyone tried it? I'm still trying to get adjusted to the gluten-free diet...
  14. I too decided to have the confirmation on something I already knew. My nutritionist had a fit that I was willing to go back to the gluten challenge. Personally, I am tired of the doctor treating me like there is nothing wrong with me. I want hard proof in my medical records so we can pin some things down quickly if needed should I become ill with something...
  15. Mariann, I know what you mean being a busy mom, etc. etc. I know one of the things they gave me was Versed. I fell asleep so fast I couldn't even believe they'd done the procedure, lol. I never nap either, but I look back on that one with a smile. Good luck with your procedure, may you have a good peaceful nap Lily
  16. Here's a message I posted in another forum. I just wanted to let everyone know to be careful of the supplements you buy. My nutritionist says she has only found 4 or 5 brands that are safe for gluten allergies. Many supposed gluten free products still dust their lines with flour. The following products are what she has deemed safe for me as far as...
  17. Hi Jules, I have had constipation problems all my life and struggled with being overweight in my adult life. I am about 100 lbs overweight right now and just recently started getting the diarrhea. Apparently I've had this all my life, but had to turn 35 for them to figure it out. Actually, my nutritionist figured it out first and pointed me in the right...
  18. I was under sedation and wouldn't have it any other way. I slept peacefully, didn't even know anything had happened. The only side effect I had was that I was sleepy all day, but I had the best nap I've had in years Lily
  19. Thanks for the intel! I'll have to look for it. I really miss the sweet stuff. Lily
  20. Knudsen brand juices are highly recommended from my Nutritionist whose specialty is celiac disease. Lily
  21. Oatmeal gives me a stomachache quicker than cream of wheat. It's been noted that some celiacs can tolerate oats though. Good luck! Thanks everyone for the great info on cereals. Fruit every day for breakfast just isn't doing it for me! Lily
  22. Hi Mark, I have the heart pounding that will last for days, but it doesn't stay all the time. I haven't really figured out exactly what causes it, but am sure it is food related. I'm working on the gluten free diet right now so I'm in the process. I've found I'm extremely sensitive to caffeine through all this. Good luck, Lily
  23. Hi, It definitely sounds like a possibility in regards to your niece. You have found a great site to look up information on this subject. One of the common descriptions of Celiac's is that they look like the starving children who have bloated stomachs, although it is definitely not always the case. The undigested food in her stool is another symptom....
  24. Hi everyone, I too am a Pepsi lover but am giving it up. I read somewhere that colas have gluten in them. My nutritionist said I must also give up coffee of all kinds. It's hard on everyone, but especially those with a sensitive system. Here's something I had posted about supplements on another message..... PS.........I just wanted to let everyone...
  25. I think it definitely varies depending on the amount of contamination and your body on how sensitive you are. Sometimes my stomach will cramp up before I finish eating, or I can bloat within 30 mins after my meal. Other times, I don't notice anything until later suddenly my heart is racing and I feel like I could hysterically cry! Some mornings I'll think...
