ARCHIVED Can Rotavirus Trigger Celiac?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gemini- I am SO sorry to hear about your brother!! Thank you so so much for sharing that story and the article. In the article it lists diabetes often being triggered by an entervirus--which is what happened to me at 7 years old. I couldn't help but question the fact that I am still sick with bouts of diarrhea and gas after the rotavirus (the article... -
ARCHIVED Can Rotavirus Trigger Celiac?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Diarrhea is on and off. I just went 2 days without any diarrhea and then woke up this morning and had to use the bathroom 5 times! It's interesting your sister has diabetes AND celiac. I'm glad you got tested too -

When do you get your results? My appointment is not until September 24. I am also having "sulfur" or "egg" burps. Very gross smelling burps! It is embarrassing to say the least I am having reflux as well-- none of these things is normal for me. Do you happen to be diabetic as well? Please let me know your results! -

Well, I'm definitely calling my doctor Monday. I had 3 days of pea sized bowel movements and early this morning the full fledged diarrhea returned. Awful! -

That's true. It would seem like a more likely explanation. -
ARCHIVED Can Rotavirus Trigger Celiac?

So I have held my young daughter's hand through severe stomach pain/bloating/vomiting and she has been diagnosed as: gluten intolerant with moderate risk for developing celiac and milk protein allergy. She is gluten free and doing GREAT! I am type 1 diabetic and have had no stomach problems to speak of. In the past year I seemed to have An increase in... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She was also diagnosed with milk protein allergy-- although I've wondered if it was a true allergy... Anyways, her biopsies were negative. Her bloodwork was very negative. They tested gliadin IGG & IGA, TTG IGA & IGG. And her IGA was at the bottom of the range. She was 21, range was 20-100. I am a type 1 diabetic and do not have celiac disease... -
Does anyone know the likelihood of a young child (almost 2) developing celiac (or possibly already have it but undiagnosed) if they have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance and carry DQ2 and DQ8?

ARCHIVED Push For Diagnosis Or Just Wait?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I looked up HLA-- i believe that is the genetic testing? We have not done that...does insurance cover genetic tests? -
ARCHIVED Push For Diagnosis Or Just Wait?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No- no HLA was tested. Forgive me, but I am not sure what HLA is or why it is tested? -
ARCHIVED Push For Diagnosis Or Just Wait?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She was measured by the pediatrician and at the GI office just before her scope and they were the same measurement...I am very picky and careful to make sure she is laying straight when they measure her. So I do feel that her measurements have been accurate and yes she has grown that much since going gluten free. GI symptoms are MUCH better!! No more... -
ARCHIVED Push For Diagnosis Or Just Wait?

My daughter (18 months) had her check up today and she incredibly grew an inch and half in less than a month! The nurse measured her twice just to make sure that was correct lol. She had dropped down to the 25th percentile and she just jumped up to the 75th percentile for height again. She went gluten free the day of her scope (which was April 2nd) and she... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, here is the report. It had a diagram that coincided with the numbers. 3- the gastric antrum is in the stomach area and 4. the distal esophagus was the middle to lower esophagus. 1. Secondary Portion duodenum: neg for evidence of celiac sprue or infectious organisms 2. Duodenal bulb: neg for evidence of celiac sprue or infectious organisms 3. Gastric... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They did the scope and reported eosinophils in her stomach (but not in her esophagus--i posted her biopsy report earlier). They mentioned trying a "patch test" for a delayed allergic reaction. But she was so impressively negative (I mean her skin didn't react at all!) and the allergist told me that the patch testing would just be another shot in the dark... -

Brit1612- Yes I got your message! Thank you! Hectic weekend so I haven't logged in until now. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here...we went to the allergist and my daughter had almost NO reaction to anything. According to the tests, she has no food allergies at all! So far she tested NOT lactose intolerant and NOT allergic to milk, and yet... -

Gemini- I have been tested for celiac in the past-- neg-- I have never been tested for the gene however. I got the biopsy report. They did not assign a "marsh" like i was expecting. But here is a rundown of what I received: 1. Secondary Portion duodenum: neg for evidence of celiac sprue or infectious organisms 2. Duodenal bulb: neg for evidence... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So here is my question (because I am having a bit of trouble understanding the correlation): If my daughter continues to have a low Total IgA count then will the DGP tests be unreliable too? What would be reliable at that point, just a positive biopsy? If I ask for them to re-check her, I want to be armed with information. -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I must say...you are a genius and a gift when it comes to helping others with this stuff! Thank you! I thought her results looked different than the ones you and others have suggested- so needless to say I am very bummed they ran older, unreliable tests. I wrote the results out late and noticed that her TTG IGA is <2 (0-3) and her TTG !GG is <2 (... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok here are her results-- they look very negative to me-- again my daughter is 18 months old. I am going to call and try to get that biopsy report tomorrow. Endomysial AB: Neg Gliadin IGG AB: 2 (0-19) Gliadin IGA ABS: 1 (0-19) TTG IGA: 2 (0-3) TTG IGG: 2 (0-5) IGA, IMMUNOGLOBULI: 21 (20-101) -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Results, Input Please?

So I had my now 18 month old daughter tested for celiac disease because she has a wide array of symptoms--right down to slow in growth. Many of you may have seen my previous posts. I have type 1 diabetes, my brother has type 1 diabetes, my grandmother has psoriasis and she has questioned whether or not she has celiac disease...so I thought she needed to be... -
ARCHIVED Referred To Allergist Before Celiac Testing
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you! Someone else who's child broke the bank eating lol. She would throw fits over food---just not normal stuff! I guess it makes sense if kids aren't getting the nutrients they need, then they just keep eating to try to fill the void. -
ARCHIVED Referred To Allergist Before Celiac Testing
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gosh yes, I've done a lot of questioning myself and wondering if something is "coincidence" or "all in my head". But I've been putting the pieces of the puzzle together for a while now. My daughter has always been a chubby baby despite her digestive issues since she 3 months old. The docs would always look at her and think "well she is definitely thriving... -

Brit1612- Thank you for the long reply!! It really is helpful to hear stories and so nice to make "friends" on here. So you are going gluten free for sure-- do you think you will pursue a diagnosis in the future? I think that would drive me nuts....I am a type 1 diabetic and i understand the relationship between celiac and diabetes so I would want to... -
ARCHIVED Referred To Allergist Before Celiac Testing
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gemini- thank you for confirming what my gut is telling me to do! Brit1612- gosh I would hate to go through a second endoscopy! Was it the biopsies that were yielding a "maybe" result or the bloodwork? Did you try gluten free with your son? The GI was pretty sure he was going to see inflammation or something indicative of an allergy--but he did not--... -
ARCHIVED Referred To Allergist Before Celiac Testing
KenzMom replied to KenzMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So today is the day! Actually my daughter is getting her scope done as we speak... We fought to do this before allergy testing and I also requested that they draw blood while my daughter is under anesthesia because they are never able to hit a vein. Well the GI was quite rude and he disagrees that we do the bloodwork at the same time because he says if the...
