  1. No offense was taken, really. I just wanted to clarify my standing with my son's drs~ I am a RN ( but clueless to this stuff, my text books have half a page on celiac!) and do have a good rapport with both of his Drs( dispite the fact I am a RN and we are notoriously "bad patients", LOL~ and both have been more than supportive of our moderately "crunchy"...
  2. I spoke with DH a little last night, he is always for the least invasive/medicinal path when possible. I will call the DR and nutritionist monday~ and let them know we will do the diet. You're, right, he did say he'd "hate" to restrict his diet so young, but, as long as he can have rice products he'll be happy. I will do the diet with him. I think I could...
  3. You know, this dr has been seeing my son nearly all of his life~ we started with reflux that wasn't easily managed. He has been very guarded with the meds~ and hasn't been quick to write out a script and send us off~this is the first time he as suggested anything of this nature really. He has been very supportive of my total breastfeeding, and guided me through...
  4. He said that he did the food panel and it was negative. He has 2 celiac genes, but the "markers" were negative. They did the scope with biopsies and the tissues were "inflamed" I do not have the results in my hands, I got the info on the phone with the DR today, and 2 kiddos at my feet.
  5. Well, my 2 year olds biopsies and labs came back from his sigmoid and EGD.. Where to start.. His food allergy panel was negative, but the dr says this only measures systemic reactions like hives, not intestinal reactions. He is anemic. His "immunoglobins" are "normal" His intestinal tract is "pretty much inflamed throughout" He...
  6. Mason just tested positive for 2 of the celiac genes. the letter states that it is used to RULE OUT celiac if it is negative. Since his was positive, and he has symptoms, we did the scope. Results are pending... For the scope you have to have the gluten, for the blood test looking for the genes, you do not.
  7. I took PTU forever. somewhere along the line, after many, many years of my thyroid being high and 4 pregnancies, it finally gave out. Now, it is low ( easier to deal with than high, though!) my baby brother just underwent the radioactive iodine 6 months ago, they gave him double the normal dosage, and lo and behold, his thyroid is high again... So... I have...
  8. Hi All~ Last week my 2 year old tested + for 2 of the celiac genes. Coupled with his symptoms, I am nearly 100% sure this is his problem, his scope results and blood work will be in this weekend.. Now. Turning the tables to me. I have read there is a genetic factor to celiac. I am wondering if this is my issue as well? I have graves. As does my brother...
  9. I am still learning about this gluten stuff, but I can speak from experience with dairy and soy.... Mason is allergic to both. According to my ped GI, there is a 25-30% of children who are dairy protien sensitive that WILL cross react to soy. With mason, his reaction to the soy milk is worse than with milk ( or so it seems, since he doesn't get dairy at...
  10. Thanks~ you both have a soothing tone to the message, and I am not quite as fearful now. I think, at this point, I would rather they find out that he does have it tomorrow instead of more uncertainty. After 9 weeks of rancid BM's 3-9 times per day I am ready for a diagnosis and a treatment plan. I think that regardless of the test results I will still trial...
  11. Hi All~ I am mama to Mason, nearly 2, who has had an INCREDIBLY sensitive stomach since birth. He is intolerant to milk and soy, and within the past 9 weeks, he's had HORRIBLE diarrhea that hasn't gone away. Now, he has lost weight, his stools are rancid, green, mucous filled messes. He does keep ulcerations on his bottom when we go through these bouts...
