ARCHIVED Accidental Glutening-but Getting Better
averyevansmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, it's been a little over 4 weeks since going gluten-free. My son has had so many normal BM's I've lost count. So I guess despite what the first GI said, this is actual confirmation of my suspision all along. Yes, no? Sometimes these know-it-all doctors just pi** me off. We went food shopping at Whole Foods Monday night and one of the free sample... -
ARCHIVED Started 3 Weeks Ago
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks. You know, I think I inadvertently glutened him myself this week a couple of times. First I gave him Rice Dream rice milk, duh, it says right on the back contains traces of gluten, then I gave him miniature hershey bars. I just read those weren't safe either. Plus he's been having ice cream here and there and a little yogurt. It's so hard to say no... -
ARCHIVED Started 3 Weeks Ago

Hi everyone. Started my son's gluten-free diet 3 weeks ago Monday. The whole family has actually. My question to you all is, because the consistancy of his poop has changed and he has had 3 intermittent solid bowel movements, with one or two bouts of diarrhea, should I be looking at this as a positive sign? In his 3 year existence, he has never had a formed... -
ARCHIVED Back From The Flu Or Somthin Else
averyevansmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son and I are just now recovering from a horrible cold. Both with fever and cough. Took him to his follow up at pediatrician for biopsy results which coincided with his cold (fever of 102) and said it was viral, isn't it always? We are just now starting to feel a bit better. I worry more with my kids when they're sick as any parent does. We started the... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....

You know, I don't understand doctors much either. Seems the more I deal with them, the less I "get" them. I am starting the diet regardless. He's my child and it is a healthy diet. As one of my relatives said, (who by the way, works for a pharmaceutical company) it's not as though I'm putiing him on an exprimental drug without a doctors supervision. This... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks everyone. We went to the hospital yesterday for the CF test and the stool sampling and because my son had gained weight and otherwise looked healthy, the doctor "did not" do the CF test, so I was basically sick over it for nothing. I wanted to strangle him. My husband told him we were going to start the gluten-free diet Sunday to see if it had any... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....

I'm downloading IM on MSN right now but I have dial-up since I live in the sticks so DSL is not yet available so it may take awhile. But I will get back to you when it is done. Then we can chat more. Are you a stay at home mom, and when is the best time to reach you on the computer? My sons appointment is this afternoon so hopefully I will have understood... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From what I've read he's having none of the symptoms. He has chronic diarrhea and other than the biopsy results of inflammation in the duodenum (which is common in celiac) and has never had mucous in his poo. Although he is anemic. So he is thinking malabsorption, hence cf. Only symptom, and a very slight one at that. Thanks for the hugs. I'm going to get... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....

How long does it take for the CF results to come back? I know I'll be sick over it until I hear back from the doctor. Becky -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....

Whew!!!!!!! Glad you don't think I'm a weirdo for licking them. I told my husband and he didn't seem at all surprised. I even licked my own skin. What's a worried parent to do. Becky -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi everyone and thanks for the replies. You're all going to think I'm nuts but after the doctor called and said he wanted to test for cystic fibrosis and I did some research I licked my kids after they had been playing to see if my little guy was saltier than my daughter. I don't know if that indicates anything. Just an act of desperation I guess. Everything... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Results.....

My 3 year olds gi called today and told me pretty much useless information, and otherwise scared the crap out of me. He said there was inflammation in the duodenum. That's it. I asked what that indicated and he said he was not sure and wanted to run further testing for giardia and cystic fibrosis. Talk about about being scared. Is this common? Does anyone... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy

bluelotus,katerinvon,taweavmo3,nini,debbiwil and key Thanks so much for the information. My son is 3 and can eat pretty much anything at this point. He doesn't like much meat though. I expect most kids his age don't. I've been trying to find as much info as possible on the regular foods that I can for him. We are all going gluten free even before the results... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy

Anyone? -
My son had his biopsy done today and although the results won't be in until next week, the doctor did mention some issues with the small intestine. There was inflammation and three white spots or patches. Has anyone had any mention of this? There were no other noticeable problems seen. I asked what those things could mean and she said it could be from allergy...

ARCHIVED Appt With Allergist
averyevansmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have an appointment with an allergist on the 30th and an appointment for the upper and lower endoscopy on 1/4. I'm hoping we can avoid the endo all together. I spoke to the gi doc yesterday and asked what he was looking for and he said celiac and inflammation, but said he did not expect to find much. So my question is why do it at all. Is it the money... -
ARCHIVED Allergist Vs. Biopsy
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you all for your quick replies. There are a couple of things making me think of food allergies with his gi and skin issues. Since October he has has 2 yeast infections on his penis, his ESR (sed) rate is 3-4 times higher than it should be in a normal child, (usually found in autoimmune diseases), he is very anemic, he is either constipated or has diarrhea... -
ARCHIVED Allergist Vs. Biopsy
averyevansmom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was wondering if I should take the less invasive route and see an allergist for my son first before we go ahead with the upper and lower endoscopy. I really don't want to put him through something like this unless I absolutely have to. Anyone else take this route first or have any other opinions or options to suggest? Thanks. Becky -
ARCHIVED Blood Test
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for your quick response Richard. Much appreciated. Becky -
My son's tTG came back negative. How reliable are these tests for a 3 year old? I belive his doctor will be scheduling scope or biopsy next. I'll know more tomorrow. My son's pediatrician is concerned about looking into his high sed rate and the inflammation somewhere. (Possibly his intestinal tract?) I'm so confused and worried about the outcome of all...

ARCHIVED Sed Rate
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, both his white blood and red blood cells were within range, however, on another page, there was another rbc marked abnormal with Micro 2+ and Hypo 1+. I have no idea what these are. -
ARCHIVED Sed Rate
averyevansmom replied to averyevansmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It's a blood test that checks for inflammation somewhere in the body. Nowhere specific. It's especially useful for people with other auto immune diseases, ie: arthritis, lupus, etc. -
I tried earlier to post but I must have lost the message. Oh, well. My question was if anyone knew if there was a correlation to a high sed rate (40) to celiac. My three year old's was that high. Plus his personality has been so erratice the past month or so. So irritable, indecisive, crabby, then lovable, snugglym clingy, needy. It's horrible to see hime...

Everyone, Thank you all so much for all for themuch needed information. I have never been tested for celiac. My son's pedi GI has only run 2 tests. I'm not quite sure which one's. My son has always been a healthy size as well. He was just about 5 week premature and weighed 7lbs 8 ozs. Thank god he came out when he did. When he was very young and I nursed... -

No, actually, he's right where he should be. Thankfully. We tell him he's got a big buddah belly but I think it might be from the impaction.
