    I'm a family doc with an interest in relieving peoples' symptoms whatever it takes. Since going off wheat, I don't have indigestion any more, and I'm no longer lactose intolerant. I feel better off wheat and sick if I eat it. Why test?

  1. about having the EGD- Going back to first principles- 'If the result of a test is not going to change what you do, don't do the test.' Even if it's safe, any test has some isk, besides the time it takes (most of a day for an EGD, when you count recovery time) and some expense, not inconsiderable with an EGD. If the EGD comes back 'negative', meaning...
  2. Did you get the letter from your doc, or the practice he's leaving? If he's really going far out of the area, ok, but sometimes partnership conflicts and bad break-ups happen and the original practice wants to keep all the patients, so they say...all sorts of things, like he's leaving the area when he isn't. Because of the 'no-compete' clause in his contract...
  3. If you look at Pub-Med, there's a ton of articles about the association between celiac disease and arthritis. About 20% of people with celiac disease have arthritis and vice-versa. Sometimes diet makes a difference. Fish oil (3-4 gms/day) and glucosamine can help too. (I'm in Highland, NY, FWIW)
