  1. I am so sorry to hear of your cancer diagnosis. My husband was just diagnosed with testicular cancer right after Christmas. Nowhere near the same situation as you, but I empathize. It's great how serious about your diet and nutrition you are.

Something to consider: there is a strong link between colon cancer and celiac. When looking for celiac family history from my grandmother, she informed me her father was diagnosed with colon cancer at 38 and he was also undiagnosed celiac. My family history is very strong on that side.

Anyway, xantham gum is made from black mold. I have a mold allergy and cannot tolerate xantham gum. I don't eat bread anymore unless I make it myself, and since it's not the same I just usually forgo it. I feel the most sorry for my middle daughter because xantham gum and tapioca flare her DH so she can't have gluten-free bread or baked good products.

I make really great banana bread muffins with only brown rice flour. No gums or starches added, they taste amazing. My husband can't even tell they are gluten free. Unfortunately, there are some things it would be better to make peace with not being able to have them anymore. Also, especially considering your other health issues, eating whole foods with few ingredients is the best option. All the luck in the world to you! Keep fighting!

  2. Yes. You absolutely, 100% can develop new symptoms if you go off gluten and then consume it. One of my biggest symptoms was DH all over my hands. It was also my 9 year old's most noticeable symptom on her face. However, my 5 year old was totally asymptomatic. We took her off gluten for 6 weeks, and when we reintroduced to test she broke out in DH all over her knees. It spread up and down her legs, onto her feet, and we are still trying to get it under control. So yes. Celiac has a million symptoms, and the entire human body is totally connected. Do not discount anything. I also now get blisters inside my mouth if I get glutened--I never had that before.

  3. Just looking for insight or info or experiences. I have read on here quite a few times that iodine can worsen DH and keep a flare going longer. Does anyone know why this is? I cannot tolerate yogurt because of histamine intolerance, but my daughters like it. They both have DH as do I. My 5 year old has had a heck of time though, and it definitely flares or gets worse when she eats yogurt (which is high in iodine) so I took her off it. Does anyone know what the mechanism is with iodine and DH?

  4. I buy Nature's Way Alive! chewables, but I actually find it makes my older celiac daughter irritable, the other one has no side effects.  The I have looked high and low for gluten-free allergy friendly vitamins. I can't take anything other than sublingual because it stresses my liver out more. Be careful of that. The longer you have been undiagnosed the more it's going to stress out your body. I was also severely anemic--and the only way I got my iron back up was through red meat.
