  1. Rachel, I think we're on the same page. It makes sense that the only reason we'd still be having all of these reactions even being strictly gluten-free is if something else was also contributing to the leaky gut. So that means there's a lot of hope because we can still change things by eliminating all of these sneaky little troublemakers...and who knows...
  2. Julie, You poor thing! I'm so sorry to hear about all that you've been going through. It's absolutely terrible to be so sick on top of losing someone in your family. I totally understand the emotional eating thing, too I lost my grandmother in March and I still haven't gotten myself all the way back to the only diet that works for me(ice cream crutch...
  3. Donna, Thanks for the feedback. Seeing that you felt improvement after changing your diet gives me hope that I will be able to remedy all these joint problems by omitting whatever it is I'm reacting to. Rachel, I'm with Patti..there's always a possibility that vegetarian means soy. Often supplements will say "vegetarian capsule"...
  4. I've had a similar experience with bagged or boxed fresh organic spinach tasting bitter, yet when I buy non-organic bagged spinach this hasn't happened. Hmm. It really does make you question how strict organic practices truly are. Thanks for all of the msg links. I noticed in one of the articles that the McCormick Spice Co. is reported to be part of...
  5. Rachel, I did have bloodwork done and two or three different sets of anti-gliadin antibodies etc were so high that the docs said a biopsy was unnecessary. I'll check to see which ones specifically were high. I'm definitely not planning to try gluten again any time soon though, even if I am doubting the celiac dx. I'm at the point where I'm planning to...
  6. Hi girls. Everytime I log on, someone's made a new connection that really gets me thinking. I can't tell you how much it has bolstered my spirits just to be part of a community of people who are actively working to figure this out and who can truly understand what it is like to be dealing with all of this. Julie, way back before my celiac...
  7. Becky, Have you added anything new to your diet recently? Even supplements or vitamins? I started feeling a bit better after eliminating gluten but found that I had problems with other foods as well (all grains/beans etc). A number of us have reacted to things in nutritional supplements that are supposedly 'allergen free.' It seems as though brain...
  8. So Breyer's All Natural ice cream isn't safe, huh? I was so hoping that Breyer's would still be okay. It's hard to accept that all of these companies are putting poison in our foods; i guess I'm just an idealist too on top of being naive. sigh. Feeling better will definitely be worth doing without it though... As far as caveman goes, are you...
  9. A few more words about MSG... I've been calling companies all morning and asking about questionable ingredients seems to be pretty useless most of the time and often earns you a very rude response but the folks at Crest toothpaste were very nice and admitted that they aren't sure of the specifics of the "flavors" used, and/or can't disclose...
  10. Rachel, I've had this persistent rash on my forehead and also around my mouth for weeks now. Finally stopped all supplements except my thyroid medicine, and it is beginning to go away(thank goodness!). Now that I know that all supplements in gelatin capsules contain MSG I'm wondering if that was the cause of the mystery rash. Also, I've...
  11. Rachel and Julie, I can't tell you how comforting it is to know that someone else on this planet has had these strange symptoms! I've had such a hard time trying to figure out the cause, and whenever I go to an md they dismiss the face swelling and fluid retention as unimportant. I'm pretty small boned, but sometimes I swell up...
  12. Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear all that you've been through and I really hope that the msg thing is the answer so that you can finally feel normal and healthy again! I've had a lot of the same symptoms that you've listed, plus hashimoto's thyroid disease(pretty much the opposite of graves), and haven't been able to figure out why I'm not getting...
  13. Thanks for all of your responses. I think dairy is definitely the next thing I'm going to have to address. Not looking forward to giving that up too, but it seems as though it does have a tendency to be problematic. Thanks again, Cali
  14. Thank you all so much for your input. I can't tell you how much it helps to be able to talk to other people who have experience with this. I've checked every single product I use and am avoiding all forms of gluten so it isn't that it's slipping in somehow. Just need to be extremely limited with my diet, I think. Rice definitely does not work for...
  15. Hi. I'm very new to the whole Celiac world, and I've got a million questions! I've been on a pretty restricted diet (non-starchy vegetables, fruits, tea with milk and sometimes sugar) for the better part of the last 7 years due to what I thought were multiple food allergies. Now I'm not so sure except to say soy & i are definitely not friends. ...
