  1. I would not wait until you are admitted. I think you could approach this just as you would going to a restaurant. Call ahead and ask to have a meeting with the head of food services. Others to contact would be the dietician and even the customer service rep. Most hospitals have a drive to be patient-centered and want your business. You may still want...
  2. I posted something similar to this last week. I took the Gingerbread house my daughter was to decorate and encapsulated the whole thing in a couple coats of Mod Podge. The complany tells me it is gluten-free, and it dries clear. We never eat the house anyway, and this way she could join right in with all the other kids without a problem. I suppied her...
  3. Just had an idea that others may be interested in. We are going to our friend's house for the annual gingerbread house decorating party for kids. Obviously a problem. I called Mod Podge and was told their product is gluten-free.... so here goes! I will encapsulate the heck out the house with the Modge Podge today and have it ready for this Thursday....
  4. Thanks so much for sharing your results!!! I really appreciate it. I have heard good things about that Tom Sawyer and will try it out. Ok - so I have NO CLUE how this is spelled, and I am probably going to make my Bestemor roll over in her grave, but "Varsagoo!"
  5. I look forward to hearing about your results... good luck! I just LOVE krumkaker. It is such a Christmas tradition for us.
  6. With the holidays just around the corner (yikes!) , I was wondering if/how I could make gluten-free krumkaker or lefse that my daughter could have. Anyone out there figured out a recipe for either of those? Many thanks!
  7. I'm confused to whether or not I should be letting my 3 yo play with stickers. I'd appreciate some thoughts on this!
  8. I know that sadness. I think it took me a dozen trips to the grocery store til I could go without crying. I still well-up in the bread aisle, or when my 2 yr old tries to convince me that goldfish don't have gluten in them. I know we all say this, but this IS do-able. Hang in there.. it gets more "do-able" each day.
  9. Good luck! We "graduate" from OT next week... She was here today and we were remarking on how much Greta has gained in the past 5 months: how she moves. how she looks. Let us know in a few months... I'll be interested to hear how things are for you!
  10. I can relate. My daugher had gross motor delays and low-tone which had GREATLY improved since being diagnosed and gluten-free (she will be 3 next month and was diagnosed in March 06). She has had OT ( I am actually a PT , though work mostly with the elderly) for a few months. I STRONGLY reccomend getting early intervention services (In the state of NH...
  11. Shaw's Supermarkets have a fairly decent selection of gluten-free items... especially larger stores with "Wild Harvest" sections. There is a Wild Oats grocery store in Portland that would be a good bet too. Both have web sites.
  12. I am fairly new to this and am wondering if it's ok to buy deli meats. Even though a brand is gluten-free, what about cross contamination of the slicer? I've asked the deliworker to wipe the machine before slicing but I have a sinking feeling that's not good enough. Are the pre-packaged sliced meats safe? How else can you but this stuff?
