  1. ok. Do those(b12, folate & ferritin) tell you if you are absorbing vitamins properly?? Or something else? I take a huge amount of B complex vitamin by order of my midwife (and I still take it for energy). Will that throw those off? If I stop taking it for a few days before the blood draw will it help the outcome of the test? Thanks, Kara
  2. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I will take that list with me and make sure they run all of those tests! Kara
  3. I guess I'll take the list of tests, if someone tells me what they are (or I find them on the forum), and ask the lab tech if they are testing for all of them. If he/she doesn't know or says no, I'll ask them to call the doctor up and verify. I've had enough dealings with the medical community to get around. The best thing is to say "I'm requesting these...
  4. No, I am not gluten-free. I've actually been eating more wheat/gluten than normal for the sake of getting a proper diagnosis. I wonder if it's illegal to add stuff to the lab form :-) I haven't taken it in for the test yet. :-) I know some of the books I've been reading suggest several tests, but I didn't know if that was included in the "screen celiac...
  5. Hi All, Sorry if something similar has been posted 1000 times before. Brief History: Had fibromylagia pains since 4, diagnosed at 21, IBS mostof life, weight gain that I can't seem to shed, sleeping difficulties. Had severe preeclampsia with birth of DD and delivered her 9 weeks early at 2.5 lbs. She has had reflux, and chronic diarrhea finally diagnosed...
  6. She hasn't had a stitch of solids in 1.5 months because we were trying to rule out anything allergenic. And prior to this all happening she was only getting about 2 teasponfuls of baby foods a day because pedi wants her on themost calories (formula) she can get because she is so small from being early (8months, 24.25" and 13.5lbs). At 24 calorie formula...
  7. It really worries me because it is the GI specialist who is giving us this advice...trying to constipate her. Hopefully they will take us seriously whne my tests come back. I took a test in "going against the grain" Anything higher than a score of 30 indicates at a minimum a gluten intolerance and possibly celiac..I scored a 79. Thanks for your encouragement...
  8. Hi again, It's us again. 8 month old preemie with chronic diarrhea for 2.5 months and GERD. We started with breastfeeding and then moved thru all the formulas. Currently, she is on elecare for 14 days and it is doing nothing for her...and in fact she is now having some black flecks in her diarrhea. Gastro ordered hemmocult (assume to check for blood...
  9. It's been 5 months since I pumped, and even at that point she was not handling my milk well. I have health issues too and I could not cut out all protein including soy, all dairy except yogurt, and all citrus and still be able to supply enough energy for both of us. I didn't have a great supply to start with because I could only pump. DD was too small...
  10. Hi, DD having rarely been exposed to gluten and other allergens got a clear bill of health on allergy tests..d'uh. But the consensus at this point is that DD is certinly protein sensitive (soy & dairy), as displayed in her mucus and diarhea diapers over the past 2 months on Alimentum and then alimentum RTF (the latter being a lot better). So we...
  11. My DD was born 11 weeks early, has acid reflux/gerd, and only tolerated breastmilk for 2 months and never has been good with formula. She is on Alimentum liquid, but is going to peds gastro tomorrow for a hopeful switch to neocate. She eats small amounts and isn't growing as much as she should be. I feel your pain. We do not have to tube feed, but she...
  12. We have gastro appointment on Tuesday. I'm hoping they give me a prescription for neocate. I can't imagine what other options there are. Now I'm trying to figure out what kind of baby food/adult food I can give her. They are still concerned about her weight and don't particularly care if she eats food, but she is SOOO interested in all the food on my...
  13. Well, my DD's allergy test results arer in. Inconclusive. GAstro doc said that was what he expected since DD hasn't been exposed to much of what they were testing for. Have an appt with Gastro next week. I switched from the powdered alimentum to the rtf liquid. It made a huge difference...for a week. Now we are slipping back into the mucus diapers...
  14. Thanks for telling me about the ready to feed allimentum formula. IT definitely made a huge difference in the "outcome" of DD diapers. More like normal, but still not quite right. Test results should come back on Wednesday, but they didn't test for corn...and it is the corn oil that is missinng from the rtf formula. So maybe we are on to something.
  15. I was breast feeding her when things started to go wrong at 2 months old. I cut out dairy and it did nothing. I was told to cut out: dairy, soy, protein, citrus...still nothing, even after reflux meds. It got so frustrating that every time she ate she would scream in pain for hours. I gave her the alimentum and we had relief...mostly. Now of course...
