  1. Here's a really good link. At one point references relationship b/w celiac and hormones....also brain. If I am not allowed to post links, pls let me know. ty Open Original Shared Link
  2. My previous doctor had diagnosed me with PCOS, but my current doctor told me that was bogus. I was averaging one period per year my entire life (I"m 30 now), so my doc said that I had PCOS (a moniker often attached to unexplained amennorhea). I went gluten-free in Nov and have had about 6 periods since then. My doc could not give me a good explanation...
  3. Ok...so I know you may be tired of hearing this, but are you 100% gluten-free? You should also look into possible secondary allergies, such as dairy products, eggs, nightshades, other grains etc. I had to respond to your post b/c prior to going gluten-free and DF, I had NO desire for sex. Zero...zip.....nada. Sex drive came back with a vengeance after...
  4. Don't know the answer to your q'n, but I guess you're in Canada if you're a Kalan fan. LOL.
  5. oh...and btw...a funny thing happened recently when I got back together with the 3 year relationship guy. When I started to set boundaries (i.e. asking to do things that I wanted to do) he decided that he wanted to marry me and have 12 babies! We're not together anymore, btw.
  6. I agree with this notion of unhealthy relationship patterns and I think it has to do with fear and dependency. I've stayed in many bad relationships because I was afraid of one thing or another. For instance, I stayed in a relationship for 3 years with someone who had no intention of ever being married or ever having kids, even though I want these things...
  7. I too have been struggling with relationship issues. Trying to entangle learned behaviours from the physical effect that gluten has on the body, and how each affects my ability to relate to others is something I have thought about as the brain fog disappears. I don' t think there's an easy answer. As the cloud lifts I pay more attention, think more, try...
  8. Oh....also want to add that somewhere along the line I gave up on myself and my dreams. Very little self investment=very little happiness.
  9. I can relate to alot of what was said here. I ended my relationship with my b/f of 4 years yesterday. It was very hard to do, but I realize that I was using my b/f to fill my own unfulfilled needs/wants (a fool's game b/c this is impossible...ie...won't help to eat a steak when what u really want is a glass of water). I was always able to spot blatant...
  10. Yes....gluten can lead to those symptoms. You should not go off gluten if you are undergoing tests b/c it will affect the results.
  11. Do eggs have casein? I seem to feel sick when eating the whites.
  12. Yup. I'm confused too about what is optimal. Tis part of the reason why I started this thread, but I think I'm just more confused. LOL.
  13. Since reading "Dangerous Grains" I have felt guilty about the amount of grains that I eat. I know that I would eat alot more veggies if I gave up some of the grains and would lose that last 15 lbs to boot! Bully, do you find that you feel much better when you limit grain consumption? And....how do you prevent hunger on such a diet? If you tell me that...
  14. Hello, I'm also interested in this casein question. I am completely gluten-free, but I admit am only "low" on dairy/casein. For instance, although I don't eat eggs, cheese, yoghurt or icecream, I DO have milk in my coffee and don't look for dairy/casein as ingredients to avoid in packaged food. I also add margarine to my rice. My question is how...
  15. Wow. Sounds like a nice array of vegetables. You could try adding Kale or Collards...either one are great in soup. I add chicken, lots of spice, onions, garlic, carrots and zucchini, along with the Kale OR Collards and tis fantastic.
  16. Hello everyone, I have been gluten-free and very low dairy since Nov 2005. Many of my symptoms have improved, but I know that it can be better. This thread is about raising the bar and becoming as healthy as possible. I'm looking for suggestions and tips for improving the gut through diet. Besides going gluten-free or DF, what are some foods/beverages...
  17. Just want to say that this is a fascinating thread. I'm having a CAT scan on July 25 b/c my doc suspects a pituitary tumour. I have high levels of prolactin, which incidentally has also been found to be correlated with celiac disease. I wonder what else will be found on the CAT. The most fascinating thing about Celiac for me is the systemic nature...
  18. Hi Judy, Amennorhea is absence of periods. I have NEVER had normal periods. I remember getting my first period at age 12 and then not getting it again for another 8 months. I went my entire life with maybe 1 period in a blute moon. And then it happened....I went off gluten in November and am now on a 35-40 day period cycle. The only other time...
  19. Very interesting responses. You know...if celiac can affect the skin, it's not a stretch that it can affect the brain/head. I have the CAT scheduled for July 25/06. I hope they give me results on-site. My doc asked if I was allergic to dye: How is dye used on CATS? I'm one of us celiacs who had numerous symptoms (including amennorhea), so I guess...
  20. Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows of any real-time chatrooms out there. Would be fun if there are any. Thanks a million.
  21. Well I decided to do some research on pituitary tumours and prolactin. I know that I should always come back to celiac when I have abnormal symptoms or bloodwork. Studies have found a link b/w celiac disease and elevated prolactin levels. Apparently severity of celiac is related to higher levels of prolactin (ie..high prolactin is associated with greater...
  22. Ok....So I went to my doc today b/c I have been having a laundry list of symptoms (swollen feet, itchy all over, major abdominal distention, fainting spell, moles darkening and crusting over, abdominal pain and pain in right shoulder blade, hair loss, and major fatigue). I am 100% gluten-free, but still get these symptoms so I thought something was going...
  23. My doc diagnosed me based on symptoms alone, but then again I had a tonne of symptoms. He's a huge proponent of looking at dietary response to come to a diagnosis. I must say that I do regret not having all of the tests, although I am absolutely convinced I have celiac disease. Today was actually a scary day for me. My prolactin levels are high again...
  24. Well.....just had my doc appointment. Went in complaining about my gut and was thrown a curve ball by my doc. My prolactin levels are high AGAIN so he has ordered a CAT scan b/c he suspects a pituitary tumour. He didn't even want to talk about my gut. I'm really worried now. Anyone know if my symptoms are associated with a pituitary tumour.
  25. Oh boy.....Just stumbled upon an article on CNN outlining the symptoms of primary biliary cirrhosis. They describe one symptom as follows: "Hyperpigmentation. Inadequate bile flow increases the production of the skin pigment, melanin, which causes your skin to become darker, even in areas that aren't exposed to the sun. Sometimes the deeper color isn...
