Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Blogs

5 Am Meanderings

My body and mind are not in agreement on what we should be doing right now. My body wants to sleep but my mind is quite active. I've made a "To do" list but it won't be still...   So blogging is a good solution. And reading yours. All of us with this crucial part of our lives (eating) in common.   Tomorrow the 17-year old French student my husband and I have been hosting for the last three weeks as part of the World Exchange program goes home. It has been lovely having her, and a learning e

So Much For Blogging

I must lead a pretty dull life. I blogged for two days and ran out of things to say.   I told my celiac story, so maybe I'll tell a little about my life...well my blog is supposed to be all about me, right?   I'm a 45 year old married SAHM of two children...21 y.o. daughter and 16 y.o. son and I'm a Christian. I'm also an artist and I love to read.   My husband is an electrical engineer and has spent most of his career life working with computer companies. About three yrs. ago he

I Had Beer! (gluten Free Of Course!

Oh heaven, heaven, heaven! I've been gluten free since January 15, 2005 (over 6 months!) and this weekend I had beer for the first time in over a year. I had stopped drinking beer last summer because every time I had it, I would have two and feel hungover for the equivalent amount of days. At this point, I had no idea that I had Celiac's. I just knew that beer made me very, very ill. This weekend my husband Kurt and I went to Vermont and lo and behold- we walked into the gheneral store in Woodst

Length Of Recovery And Today's Doctor Visit

I was going to address my recovery time, after the diagnosis. But, yesterday was a bad time for me emotionally, because of the doctor appointment today. My recovery is still ongoing after being diagnosed early February of 2004. As soon as I went gluten-free, I noticed a mark improvment right away and thought it would keep going at that pace. It did not. They said I would gain some of my weight back and I did not. I am still the size I was when I was diagnosed. I am probably at 50 % or so

Welcome To My World

I haven't really thought this through, so I'll just plunge in. I was born under the sign of Airies, and that's the way we operate First, I'll tell you that I'm happy to be a Celiac. At first I was totally dismayed in disbelief. My Dr. was more surprised that I was. I figure he was expecting to find a malignancy, and he told me he was astounded to discover the Celiac Sprue through the biopsy.I've been gluten free since June 16th (2005) and I must be doing something right because I am feeling S

Gf Birthday

Today is my birthday! I am very fortunate to work with some great people. We have a potluck once a month for everyone on my team whose birthday is that month. We only have 10 people, so it's a manageable thing.Well, this month they had the potluck last week. And they decided to make it a gluten-free potluck. Isn't that kind? I hate to be the center of attention and I hate for the diet to be a burden to other people, but they insisted. They ran their ideas by me and they scoured ingredient lists.

Continuing Gluten Free...one Week Now

Well today being Tuesday, July 26th, I am one week gluten-free for the first time in years. Not seeing any improvement in my sleep yet, but I guess that will take time. Not sure if it is the gluten that is causing me my sleep problems. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and we are going to try Tryptophan for my sleep. So I am anxious to see if that helps in any way. I read on one of the Celiac sites that our bodies don't absorb the tryptophan from our foods and that could be the cause o

some people are brilliant..... i went to a fast food restaurant today, ordered a cheeseburger, no bun of course, with lettuce, onion, tomato. they bring it out in the little dish, and had placed the cheese on the bottom of the burger! so basically it was stuck to the dish and I had a hamburger. didn't realize I had to tell them how to do that even....had a soft stool this morning. that's unusual since I had one last night. I felt lighter in the stomach area last night but still bloated in

Introduction

<p>Hi there. I'm 48 years old, and I was diagnosed with celiac disease in December 1998. It was a very sad time for me. I knew I should be happy that my medical problems could be solved by diet alone, without dangerous drugs and bad side effects, but still, I wept every night for the beloved foods I had to give up, and I mourned the ease with which I had formerly dined in restaurants and friends' homes. I was single, and I thought my social life (pathetic as it was) was over. Who'd want to

Wedding Report & Miso Question

So my earlier comment about my nephew's wedding was written yesterday but apparently I didn't actually publish it. I'm learning.   So it's now today, or the day after, and I'm pleased to report that everything went well. My brother, who is also celiac and a bit paranoid, talked to the chef directly and she put aside two plates for us and gave us what we could eat, which was a lot since mostly the meal was salads and fresh fruits.   My brother and I had a bit of a debate about whether we c

My Nephew's Wedding

I should be getting ready, we leave in an hour. But I wonder what I will be able to eat at the wedding (I have had my cereal to make sure I do not starve). They know my restrictions, but I am the least of their thoughts right now. I will report tomorrow on today...

My Life Story...

I don't remember much about my life before I was 3 years old. My mom passed away almost 9 years ago and my dad wasn't around much when I was a baby, so I have no one to ask if I had problems then. The first health problems I remember happened when I was 4 years old.I encountered a few traumatic events as a child. I know that any traumatic event can trigger Celiac, and I have wondered if that is what started it. When I was 3 my mom lost custody of my sister and I. We had been living in Misso

Takes about about a week to heal up. Surprisingly painless.

Another concern I had with my cockup with the bandage was with the larvae sitting in the gauze potentially drying out and dying while I futzed around. Seems things are ok. I've been having tingles under the stretch bandage I used to secure placement. I'll know for sure in a couple of days when I see the entry wounds.
