Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Blogs

List Of Symptoms

Here is a list of symptoms associated with celiac disease that I put together to give to my doctor. I would like to know how many of the symptoms any of you have ( or had in the past if you a gluten-free now). I have 32 symptoms off this list, many of which taken separately could have been something else, but when you look at them together you can tell there is something really wrong! If you have anything to add to this list that would be great. Most of this was compiled from the aafp.org and ce

1st Store Trip, 6 Bucks For Bread?!?

Yesterday was my first trip to the store since being diagnosed. I need some quick foods for certain days of the week. While I love cooking, it's just not always practical to make every meal of every day...besides, I really wanted a bowl of cereal for breakfast instead of egg tacos. Trader Joe's has an okay selection of gluten-free Indian entrees, expensive, and I've never tried them, but hey...it replaces my Health Choice microwave meals. They have a really good wine selection too...so I got

Vegetarians Only Do It For Fun

One of my co-workers politely asked me, after declining a gyro, if I was a vegetarian. I told him about the "wheat allergy," and he asked me how my allergy manifests itself. I politely told him that I vomit--and that it's genetic. I told him about the rice bread and whatnot--and he was pretty cool with it. My take on vegetarians who have started a vegan/whatever (not purposely gluten-free) diet: they don't realize how lucky they are. Sure, I'm not missing most of that poisonous stuff, but the fa

Another Day, Another Rice Cake

It's Sunday. We just got back from worship services then eating at our favorite Indian food restaurant. Thankfully, most of their food is gluten-free. About the only thing we can't eat there is their wonderful flat bread (nan and roti). Oh, how we miss it!Lindylynn asked me what kind of dog Pearlie is. I'm not sure how to respond to her comment on my blog yet, so I'll just answer here. Pearlie is a Maltipoo (not a Bichon). A maltipoo is half Poodle, half Maltese. If the sire is a Maltese

My First Entry

Okay, I've never done this before, but figured it would be a great outlet for me to be able to talk about all the little things that come up when no one is around to chat with.I am still recovering from an incident that occurred Friday, two weeks ago. I am on the tail end of the recovery from a gluten incident and the irritable intestines are getting back to normal. My standard reaction is 2-4 days of pain, gas, bloating and diarrhea and exhaustion, sometimes with a DH rash. That is followed

Learning About Blogs

Hi everybody. I'm just learning about blogs and trying to figure it all out. It's funny because my husband and I were talking about blogging last night and he asked me if I'd like for him to set up a blog for me (he's a computer genius ), but I said, "What would I have to talk about?" Then, lo and behold, this morning I got a message from celiac.com telling me that they have a new blog feature. It must be a sign that I need a blog.

First Blog

I have arrived   This is my first blog. Not that you care, or it's keeping you up at night, as pre-diagnosis probably did. I am a writer and dancer and celiac. All three are difficult and delightful.   I thought living without wheat, etc would be devestating. It is not, rather it is illuminating. Until last year I was pasta girl, pizza girl, bisquit girl, cinnamon bun girl. I had no pain from this. For over 40 years. Although I was constipated for most of that time. But I thought that was ju

A Quick Summation Of The Past Year Since The Diag.

*July 2, 2004--my mother's birthday and the day of my bloodwork (IgG)*One week later--tested positive for IgG antibodies. Was told by my Gastro's head nurse, "Here are all the things that you can't have. Are you ready?" *Found this site and support group on the 17th.*Bought rice bread, tasted it for the first time, and hated it. Got used to it eventually, and now enjoy it, except when it crumbles--that sucks.*Talked to the Food Services staff at Thiel and told them about my condition--which they

I'll Bet You Can Relate

Greetings, all, hope this finds you well. The following is my journal entry from the night before I began my new celiac lifestyle. I wrote it to help process my own feelings, and thought it may be beneficial for another struggling "newby" to realize you are truely not alone. Where to Now?I'm angry and lost. Thought I'd found the answer recently with a name to the mysterious symptoms that have consumed me for months; the need for more sleep than a newborn, irritability...okay, b%$@#iness to a new

So, Get This...

I shop at a large local grocery store chain (Fred Meyer, for those of you who know it) and they have a wheat free section. They have recently moved this section and first it took them about two weeks to move the sign with it and then the other day I was purusing it, looking for more stuff and they had products right under the wheat free sign where the first ingredient was wheat! I'm not kidding! Literally the product right under the sign says "organic enriched wheat flour" right on the front of

Starting From The Beginning

I'm the lucky one in this crowd, no doubt about it. I had a baby and after three month of diarrhea the Dr. quickly diagnosed me as being allergic to gluten...that was 5 days ago. 3 months of suffering sounds like nothing compared to the other stories out there....I have some liver damage, but that will heal with time! Where do I go from here? Well, I feel incredible. 5 days sans gluten has given me this great energy boost and I didn't take a nap yesterday and I stayed awake until 10:30...I

Hello!

Hi! Welcome to my blog. My screen name is mytummyhurts, but my real name is Abby, I am 26.I was diagnosed with celiac disease last October. I have basically been gluten free for a few months now. But honestly, I'm still getting used to all the ingredients and I think I still make mistakes. I also need to buckle down and research all my beauty products, etc. I had been feeling pretty good up until a few days ago. But the past few days I've started feeling kind of sick again. This morning I felt b

Intro - Welcome to my blog

Welcome to my blog. I will be using this space to bring together information I have gathered about my specific food intolerances so that maybe someone out there who identifies with any of them can make some connections to help them figure out what might be going on with them.A list of food intolerances and allergies I seem to have at this particular point in time (who knows, there may be more?) are as follows:gluten-intolerancenightshade-intolerance (potatoes, bell and spicy peppers, eggplant, t

Yes, I have one of the older models and have tested many products with it. For me it seems like a valuable tool and I have used it to test foods that I eat regularly, which are naturally gluten-free, for example salsa, refried beans, etc.

Has anyone tried the NIMA gluten detector?  I'm seriously thinking of investing in one. I haven't eaten out at a restaurant since my late diagnosis 4 years ago (I'm 55 in March)  Any information would be greatly appreciated
