Reformed Celiac

I was diagnosed with celiacs about 6 years ago. At first I tried the diet for about 4 months, but gave up. I am exremely under weight, and never really finished puberty. I recently found out I have a petuitary tumor. Is this connected to my celiacs?!? I know this is the reason I never grew to full potential, being almost 23 years old Im kinda stuck this size. But after vigerouse research I never found any connection between the two. My celiac symtoms are just constant upset stomach, I get stomach cramps that probably compare to child birth every night.

I haven't come across any information linking pituitary tumors with celiac disease. But celiac disease can stunt growth just by itself. You can't grow properly if you aren't getting the proper nutrients. Both of my children were small for their age. My daughter is 23 and I guess about average - 5'3" and probably under 100 lbs. My son had a big growth spurt after going on the gluten-free diet at about age 14. I don't know if it was because of going off gluten, or if he would have had that growth spurt anyway.

Did you get the tumor removed? I've seen a show on TV about gigantism caused by pituitary tumors. At least yours didn't cause that! :o

Congratulations on finally making a commitment to gluten free eating. It's really not that difficult once you get used to it. Remember, it won't do you any good if you go on the diet half-heartedly. If you're getting even a tiny bit of gluten, you'll probably still feel lousy and you'll probably develop the attitude "what's the use? If I'm going to feel terrible anyway, I might as well eat what I want." Just be extra diligent and cut out ALL gluten.

I don't drink beer, so I can't recommend any, but I do know there are gluten-free beers.

Thanks for the info. No I didn't have it removed. Doctors are monitoring it, but they say I should be fine because its not cancerous, and seems to be staying the same size. All it does now is cause severe head aches occasionally. 2 of my sisters, and my father have celiacs. They all stay on the diet and do well now. So I'm thankful I have them for advise, hopefully I'll see results soon! I know I need to be patient

Great! It is very helpful to have family members that know the drill. It means that family get togethers aren't filled with tempting foods that you can't eat. So many of my family members have it that all of our meals together are gluten-free.
