Storing Gluten Free Products

My husband was diagnosed with Celiac about 3 months ago and so he has been gluten free ever since. We try to keep a 3-6 month food storage for our family but I am wondering what experience anyone has had with storing some of the gluten free grains and other ingrediants. It is easy to store white rice as a grain and then grind it but brown rice has a shorter shelf life because it has a higher moisture content. Can the shelf life be improved if it is frozen or refrigerated? There are so many different grains that I use in my baking-does anyone know if there is a list or something somewhere that will help me to know shelf life and the best way to store all of these items as well as ways to buy them in bulk in order to save a little money? I just want to be prepared in case of an emergency because I would imagine that if there were a disaster it might be even more dificult to get some of the specialty items than it would be to get non gluten free items. Thanks for the help!

You are correct about the brown rice (or brown rice flour). It can go rancid, so you should store brown rice flour, as well as soy flour or any bean flours, in the freezer to extend their shelf life. I just store in tupperware or ziploc bags.

After I was diagnosed I went out and bought myself a chest freezer. I store TONS of food in there!! I couldn't imagine having Celiac and not having my freezer.

      If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

      No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

      Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

      Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
