Hi Guys,

My three year old daughter was just diagnosed as gluten/casein intolerant. I was wondering if anyone knows of some products offhand that are gluten/casein free. I would love to give friends and family a list of some foods and snacks they can pick up at the store that they can give her. I know of a few like the Trix and Dora cereals and some of the obvious others, but would love all the ideas I can get. Thanks!

I found this site

That lists a LOT of name-brand foods and which are gluten-free. They also list contact info for manufacturers so you can get more info if their site comes up empty.

Also found a list of how to recognize hidden gluten in ingredient lists, but that link seems to be hiding from me.

I printed it out, and took it to the store with me for days. Now I have it nearly memorized and only have to refer to it occasionally.

Here's the list as I printed it. Hope this helps!

Checklist for the Patient: Take this list with you when you shop. Look for products with "gluten-free" written on the label. It may not be clear what products contain gluten. This list contains items to look for when reading food and drink labels. Avoid buying products that have one or more of these ingredients:

  • __ Caramel flavoring, or non-United States manufactured caramel coloring.
  • __ Cereal extract or additive.
  • __ Cereal protein.
  • __ Edible starch or wheat starch.
  • __ Emulsifiers.
  • __ Flour.
  • __ Fillers.
  • __ Hydrolyzed, hydrogenated, or texturized vegetable or plant protein (HVP or HPP).
  • __ Dextrin.
  • __ Malt, malt flavoring, or malt extract.
  • __ Mono-glycerides or di-glycerides.
  • __ Stabilizers, such as gluten stabilizers.
  • __ Thickeners, such as modified food starch.
  • __ Vegetable gum or protein, such as oat gum.

Hello everyone, this my first time to this website and I need some help. I’m 65 years old and have been living with Celiacs for about 15 years. My doctor has suggested I start taking a probiotic named  Integrative Pro-Flora-Concentrae. Has anyone else used this probiotic specifically? If this one isn’t celiac friendly can you recommend another please. Thank you.

If a Celiac person is successful in following a gluten-free diet, they can go into remission.   They may not have a reaction to gluten without a precipitating event like an injury or infection or even emotional or mental stress.   Following a strict gluten-free diet at home, then indulging in gluten containing products abroad without a reaction can be explained by this remission.
