Does anyone know of a good dr. in the atlanta area that really understands celiac and the diet ? My dr. just say " just follow the diet" looks to me like he has never had to do this diet. I also am a diabetic and need to lose like 150 pounds so I am having a horrible time trying to put all this together. I need help ! Karen

Hi, this is probably going to be the worst good news you've ever received, there is

supposed to be an "expert" in Celiac disease in Atlanta, I can't remember her name, but I got it off the internet by doing a search for Celiac disease specialists/physicians on the Google search engine, I even went as far as to call this doctor's office to see about an appointment (I live in northeastern part of Alabama), anyway, she is supposed to be the foremost expert on celiac disease in the south, however, her office will not file any insurance, the receptionist did assure me that most insurances will pay for the M.D. services but that all fees have to be paid to the physician and then you have to wait for reimbursement. This was just something I cannot afford to do at this time. After I log off, I'll try the search again

to see if I can hit her name again. (Also, she does have hospital privileges according to the receptionist, but I can't remember which hospital) I'm sorry, this is virtually useless information for you, but at least it lets you know there is someone right there in Atlanta that is a leader in the field.

Thank you for that information. It at least give me something to look for.

I can always call around to alot of GI doctors to find out or I will look on the

site myself. Thank you so much. Not sure I can afford it either right now, but

I will check it out. Thanks again. Are you a new Celiac ?

Cynthia Rudert, MD is an expert on celiac disease. She is in the Atlanta area. Good luck!

Thanks for the name. I will give her all call. My GI dr isn't any help. Karen

I live in the Atlanta area too. I like my doctor, but he didn't help at all regarding figuring out the diet. Maybe if you, or someone else, finds a good dietician or doctor in the area we could get the information posted somewhere. It would be a huge help to have a good doctor or dietician to help figure out the diet.

I am a patient of Dr. Rudert and she is wonderful. In addition, there is a meeting on April 24 at the PF Chang's Perimeter of the Cobb Support Group and Suzanne Magni, a registered dietician, is speaking. You may be interested in attending that as well. If so, I can post the time and other pertinent information.

Good luck.

Kim.

I can't make it to the 24th meeting. I am still trying to find a support group that I could make the meetings. It seems something always comes up on the day of the meetings.

Could you post the contact information for the Cobb Support Group?

Thanks!

If you have hemorrhoids 1x weekly I don't see how you have time to heal from one episode before you experience another one, unless each one is a very minor event. Have you consulted a physician about your hemorrhoid issue? It's not normal to be having an episode every week unless it is really one episode that is not completely healing between weekly flareups.

No I haven't had one since 2021. I rarely have more than 1 per week.

Sorry, I see that now as I reread your original post. You say you have hemorrhoids "only once a week" now. When I develop hemorrhoids, which is once every few years now, it generally takes 3-4 days for healing to take place. So, it doesn't seem like you could have much relief time between episodes if you have them weekly. Have you had a lower GI scoping done recently?

Everyday I eat a medium to large apple in the morning and a large banana at night. I eat a cup of oatmeal in the evening. The ezekiel wheat bread I eat has a good amount of fiber. I haven't dealt with constipation for at least a year. Most of the time my feces are soft.
