I spent most of last week trying to register for this forum. As I went along, the registration page put green check-marks next to my display name, my password, and my email address -- so I figured everything was OK. I typed in the security code very carefully, then clicked on Register. It reloaded the same page. Everything I had typed in was still there, along with a new security code. I figured I must have mis-read the security code, but I didn't get any further with the new code -- or the next one, or ....

I emailed Scott Adams, and his best guess was cookie and/or firewall problems. I checked through thousands of allow/block settings, and deleted everything with the word "celiac" or "gluten" in it. Still no better.

Finally, I got to wondering whether those green check-marks knew what they were talking about. I tried a different display name -- still no go. I went back to my original display name and tried a different email address -- and I was in!

I emailed Scott, telling him my best guess is that something in the software is assuming there are no hyphens in email addresses (even though hyphen is not listed as an illegal character). He is notifying the software manufacturer. Meanwhile, if you're reading this because you're having trouble registering, and if your email address contains a hyphen (the address I normally use for forums is Carol-the-Dabbler@whatever), then try an address with no hyphens in it. (The same thing may apply to a few other special characters.) Good luck!

Update: Scott says he registered using an email address containing hyphens, and had no problem. Now I'm thinking that my original email address may have failed because of its length -- 32 characters total.

The registration page does not specify any maximum length for email addresses. But even though the green check marks thought my address was OK, there may be one or more places in the software that assume the address is shorter than 32 characters.

Second Update: I finally got up nerve enough to go to "My Controls" and try changing to my preferred email address -- and it worked! I still don't know exactly what the registration software didn't like, but obviously the address-change software doesn't have the same quirk.

So if you're having a mysterious problem with getting registered -- the software gives everything a green check-mark, but when you click on the final button to register, you just get kicked right back to the registration page -- try entering a different email address. And if you don't want to continue using the substitute address for this forum, there's a good chance that you'll be able to change to your preferred address later.

Come to think of it - when I registered I couldn't use my 'normal' email address - I had to use a gmail account.

Nikki -- maybe we can figure out what the problem is. I certainly don't expect or want you to post your actual email address (the one that you couldn't use), but could you describe it? How many characters is it, total? What punctuation marks does it contain (other than the @ sign and some dots)? Is there anything at all unusual about it?

Nothing unusual :blink:

24 characters - all alphabet - lower case no dashes - very boring!!

I thought it might have been because the last part was co.uk whereas gmail is a .com :unsure:

      Daughter has started gluten free diet this week as per gastroenterologists suggestion. However says she feels more tired and like she’s been hit by a train. I suggested it could be the change to gluten free or just stress from the endoscopy last week catching up with her. Just wondering if feeling more tired is a normal reaction at this stage. I suppose it’s possible some gluten might have been present without realising. Have tried to reassure her it’s not going to resolve symptoms overnight

      Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

      I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.

      It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!

      Yes, I've posted a few times about two companies: Request a Test and Ulta Labs. Also, pretty much we can all request any test we want (with the possible exception of the N protein Covid test and I'm sure a couple of others) with Lab Corp (or Pixel by Lab Corp) and Quest. I much prefer Lab Corp for their professionalism, ease of service and having it together administratively, at least in DC. And just so you know, Request a Test uses Lab Corp and Quest anyway, while Ulta Labs uses only Quest. Ulta Labs is cheaper than Request a Test, but I am tired of dealing with Quest, so I don't use them so much.
