Waiting For Test Results - Few Questions

castor Rookie

Doctor did a lot of blood tests and a stool sample, got a verbal of most results but am waiting for the celiac panel.

They said liver was fine, thyroid was fine, and nothing wrong with the stool and nothing else out of ordinary, they are mailing the results, should have them to look at in a day or two.

I think I will have results for the celiac tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

Since I got the blood test I decided to do a little test on my own with my diet. I went food shopping 3 days ago and got mostly friuts and veggies and meats. A few things I got I knew still had trace amounts of gluten, but I wanted to see if cutting out almost all of it for a few days would do anything.

I had also gotten a very bad I guess cold on top of things, so I the healthy food couldn't hurt anyway... just ate into a budget I don't have....

The first day I was still a mess, the second I was doing better and the cold was going away but still had a few moments that were pretty bad and had to lay in bed for a while. Yesterday I was feeling a good amount better and the cold was not really there, just coughing and this morning I woke up feeling almost refreshed for the first time in a long time. Soooo, I decided to try a big helping of wheat to see what would happen. Ate a bowl of pasta and about an hour later I felt like I got ran over. Still feel like crap... back hurts, neck hurts, stomach hurts, headache.... and several other things.

From just that... I am really wondering what the test results will say though I know they aren't right some of the time, but my experience over the last three days is somewhat telling to me and plan to go 100% gluten free soon and see what happens over a longer period.

What should I look for with the results??? If they are negative doctor said they want to do a colonoscopy next, fun times. Should I request a biopsy? What then to try and diagnose it if I really do have it? I guess there is just going on the diet, but family thinks I am making things up so I can lay around so an actual diagnosis would help...

This is something I was wondering about and anybody that could offer some personal experience would be greatly appreciated. I have had a lot of mental problems for the last 8 years that no doctor has every really been able to fully diagnose or understand. My current diagnosis is bipolar type 1, though was first major depressive, then they added ADD, changed their minds.... all that fun stuff.

I have read a little that mood swings and such can happen as well as depression with celiac. For some here, how bad did things get with that? I just wonder if a lot of what I went through was actually associated with celiac if that is what I have.... Meds they gave me just always seemed to make things worse and I never fully fit into any specific disorder. Was just severely depressed half the time, irritable, and then started having drastic mood swings and irrational behaivor but it would just randomly come and go, half the time I would be fine for periods, then crash for no reason despite any meds they tried. I've had doctors tell me they couldn't help me after a while and to try 'this' person.

Can things get that bad with the mental aspect with celiac? Or is it more of just some depressions with slight mood swings for some?

Any incite would be great, this all could explain a lot for me if it's all connected.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
