The past week has been a blur of sleep deprivation due to our new puppy, who's finally getting more secure in his new environment.

Aw Tiffany--your new puppy is adorable! So cute :D

Does he/she have a name yet?

What a beautiful pup!! Makes me think of what our Lucy must have looked like then. We have a white standard female. She is a rescue. We got her from Circus people who had over 100 dogs with all of them in crates all day with only 2 potty breaks and no play time. It was pathetic. She is partially blind and mentally retarded. But we just love her!! :)

Have fun and enjoy every moment of it!! Hide your shoes. :P

we've named him Neo, like in The Matrix, and he's settled in, and doing well with what we're teaching him so far. he picked up sit very quickly, so we're mostly reinforcing; he naturally retrieves, so we just need to correlate it with a command. stay is just starting to happen, as he's just now getting comfortable with the idea of this being his permanent new home and feeling confident of it. come is one my husband is working on, and it's a little slow going. he knows the idea of housebreaking, but doesn't get the idea of puppy pads, which is kinda frustrating. not too many accidents, however, since he's good about waiting until we go outside (which is often).

he's been fairly good with shoes. trying to teach him not to chew on the ethernet cable I have on the floor while I work from home has been harder, but he's picking it up. the guy is smart, just sometimes very puppy. :) he is only 9.5 weeks old, after all. :D

OMGosh, Neo is ADORABLE!!!! You can tell from the looks on his face that he is quite the character!

huh, that's odd. I had a link to my flickr pictures (not an advertisement, I don't sell my pics, and none of them come close to offensive, they're mostly trees from hiking!).

perhaps someone edited it out?

I'll try again: Open Original Shared Link

Some more pictures of Neo - both feeling unwell (we think it's a bad case of teething) and playing like crazy (taken on back to back days).

Tiifany, what a gorgeous creature Neo is!! I would never get another breed after having spent half my life with standard poodles. We have two, a big white female rescue pup, and a very big apricot male. They are the ideal dog -- with children, the elderly, big families, small......perfectly cut out for the job of special needs dog...cannot say enough about them.

Funny, our black female standard that I grew up with went through all kinds of obedience and agility training, and learned so quickly, as these fiercely intelligent beasts do. Sit, down, stay, heel, everything was picked up immediately. However, she would not ever respond to the "come" command - - ever. She knew what it meant, but simply chose not to obey that one. One of the trainers at the time told me that standard poodles are renowned for this, the refusal to come on command. My two current standards, as well, just stare at me when I yell at them from across the meadow, "Come!"

.....They're too smart for their own good!!

They are, aren't they? Makes training a hoot, since you have to be on your toes to keep them from getting bored! :D

We won't try an un-enforceable come for a long time yet (at least another six months of training it on a long line), but so far, he's done great. Both for "come" (our command) and "here" (our request). It takes *a lot* of time to train that one to use it as the life-saving, emergency recall that is ideal. (If he doesn't outgrow his puppy ADD very quickly, he might not be 2 until we test him off lead on come. ;) )

Congratulations! I wish you a good night's rest! :)

Definitely worth speaking to your gastroenterologist about this. My own told me that by using Gaviscon a barrier forms over the contents of the stomach and stops gas and acid irritating the throat.  In fact, he said to me that because I found relief using Gaviscon that was a very clear indicator that reflux was the cause of that particular issue.   A wedge pillow will really help with this - or raising the top bed legs with bricks.

I did get the pneumonia vaccine about 4 years ago. I had this amazing allergist who did all those vitamin deficiencies test and told to get that vaccine. Unfortunately she retired.  I haven’t been to an allergist in a few years,  I’m not sure what my levels are now. I did have a pulmonologist who wasn’t concern and said I seemed fine to him that I was young etc. But yes I think I should at the very least get a different opinion. Thank you for your reply

Yes I do have acid reflux. I’m not on anything for it at the moment. I sometimes wonder if that’s what it could be because I get heart burn every night. I may revisit my gastrointestinal doctor again. Thanks for the reply

Hi @HelloFlowersGoodbyeFlour I wonder if you suffer from reflux, as if you do, you may find it could also be irritating your airways.  I shall explain: I have to use a blue inhaler from time to time, and it seems to be related to reflux.  Never had any trouble before my coeliac diagnosis, the reflux seemed to be something that developed following a holiday to France in 2019, where I had been exposed to gluten.    The reflux continued into the autumn and winter, my throat itched to begin with, particularly after meals, but it then that feeling of irritation seemed to spread to my lungs.  I even found it difficult to breathe on occasion. What stopped it in its tracks was using a wedge pillow at night, following a reflux diet (you can find them online), not eating 2-4 hours before bed and also having a dose of Gaviscon Advanced at night, which forms a barrier so that acid/food can't go back up your esophagus.  The throat irritation faded, and then I found it easier to breathe again. Just mentioning in case it could be a contributing factor.

Since initially getting your D checked a few years ago, has it since rebounded to normal levels? Sounds like at some point you got it checked again.
