My six year old son was diagnosed with celiac six months ago. He has no symptoms other than he is under weight. We just got back from the doctor who told us we aren't doing the diet good enough. We can't tell when he comes into contact so how do we stop it. If anyone has gone through this problem and can point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

How does he know you aren't doing it good enough? From retesting or from lack of gaining weight? This sounds like a tough one!

At first on the diet my son gained 6 pounds in four months, since then he has lost 2. The doctor retested said we weren't doing good enough.

Its so hard. He's 6, is he at school? Does he sit on his own at lunch? He might be getting accidental gluten cross contamination from friends cookie crumbs or whatever?

I can't help you as we are just this month diagnosed with my 5yo...but this is one of my biggest fears. I "know" my son is gluten-free" but he is asymptomatic so it's scary.

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.
