Given Up Gluten

Hello

I had some blood tests done over a week ago and only one came back as slightly abnormal, it was the liver test. After my blood test I went on a gluten free diet and after 48 hrs my depression lifted completly. I am now thinking staight and I dont feel like I cant cope with life. I cant beleive how much better I feel. I deceided to have a big slice of cake to see what happens.....I became really depressed again and it took 48 hrs until I was feeling better. I wont be doing that again.

My doctor wants me to take my blood test for my liver again, not sure why. I have made an appointment to see him and talk about why it needs to be done again. I dont want to have to go on gluten again......ever. But I live in England and I would get help with buying bread and pasta if I am diagnosed. We will see.

I just wanted to share my story and hope it helps someone with the same problems that I have been having. There is hope :D

Thank You for sharing your story :)I've had problems for 12 years & the worst of all is the brain fog. Because of everything I find myself depressed among other things. It's nice to see how well this works for you & gives me hope. I wish it was that fast for all of us! Mine is going to be a long process... It's been almost 5 weeks for me so far. Not bad really because I didn't realize how long it's been until I looked at the beginning date (July 6th).

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
