Can't Get A Diagnosis

I've been having stomach and fatigue problems for almost 2 years now and have not gotten a sure diagnosis of anything. At first it seemed as though I had a yeast overgrowth, mulitple stool samples show high levels of microscopic yeast. Diflucan seemed to help but the fatigue and loose stools but they would return. I've been on a strict diet of no sugar, fruit and very low carbs for over 6 months. I've had the blood test for celiac done twice now and both came back negative. The first one I had been on a gluten free diet for the previous 6 weeks and told the doctor this and he said that I've probably gotten a little bit from somewhere, enough to make the test positive if I had it. The next test, I had been getting very little gluten in my diet prior to the test. I'm currently waiting on some genetic test results. I've also been put back on the diflucan, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I wondering from those of you who have been diagnosed,

Have you had problems with yeast as well as the celiac disease?

Right know my symptoms are: Fatigue, a burning sensation/eye fatigue, bulky light colored stools, sometimes formed, I lost 15 lbs last winter that I havent put back on, I wake up with a bad taste in my mouth and white coated tongue, and have had a sore throat for almost a year, a near constant gurgling in my stomach and excessive burping.

I'm just not sure whether to continue thinking this is just a yeast problem.

Any incite from anyone would be greatly appeciated.

Yeast overgrowth is common with some who are gluten intolerant. Also lactose intolerance and fructose intolerance are common. And they can be the culprits of your continuing symptoms as they feed yeast.

I had a yeast overgrowth problem before I found out I had Celiac as well. I took Diflucan for months and Nystatin as well for years with not much improvement even after going totally gluten free, once I went lactose free, reduced the fructose in my diet and added a supplement called "Fungal Defense" by Garden of Life, I don't have the yeast problems unless I consume to much fructose (bananas especially).

Also you need to have your vitamin levels checked. Zinc, Vitamin D, Calcium etc. The white coat on your tongue can still be yeast but it can also be a vitamin, mineral deficiency, or even a sign of an allergy to some other food.

As for the tests, the fact that you are/were mainly gluten free before you had them can be why you're getting false negatives. You have to be eating normal amounts of gluten for at least 6 months to a year for the blood tests to detect any antibodies. So being gluten free even for 6 weeks can give you a false negative. The antibodies have to be in your blood at high enough levels for the tests to pick them up but once you went gluten-free the amounts reduced to a level too low for the blood test to detect.

I would not tell you to go back to gluten filled life just for tests. Since you are getting a genetic test done if it comes back positive you can be sure you have Celiac. This happened to lady in my local support group she was so sick when she ate gluten that the doctor told her to stay gluten free and he did the genetic test. She had all the genes there are that indicate Celiac.

Thanks for the incite, I had and ELISA allergy test done that tests for IgG antibodies that revealed a strong reaction to Bakers Yeast. The doctor thought it could be a cross reaction with candida in my gut, but I've been avoiding all forms of yeast anyway.

Should I get a more conventional allergy test done I believe it would be for IgE antibodies?

I was lactose intolerant as a child but seemed to grow out of it as an adolescent and since all these problems have started I've been avoiding it like the plague.

      I'm very confused... My blood test came out negative, I checked all antibodies. I suppose my Total IgA levels are normal (132 mg/dl), so the test should be reliable. Still, I'm not relieved as I can't tolerate even a single biscuit. I need to talk to my doctor about whether a duodenal biopsy is necessary. But it is really possible to have intestinal damage despite having a seronegative results? I have really strong symptoms, and I don't want to keep skipping university lectures or being bedridden at home.

      They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

      In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

      @JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

      This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.
