    ARCHIVED Seizure?

I have been battling this gluten sensitivity thing for a while (actually, battling myself about it). I have gone through a really stressful time lately and have not paid ANY attention to what I am eating. Sometimes it takes a while for me to feel sick enough to force me to do something about my diet - I have evening symptoms mostly, and some of the daytime...
  2. Open Original Shared Link Went here last night for dinner, and it was FABULOUS! The menu is all listed with gluten-free preps and all. The waitress informs you of everything that is put on your table that is gluten free (and sets non-gluten free stuff away from you in case you forget), you get your own little "breads", and they even have scrumptious...
  3. Medical knowledge and scientific proof of things is the minority of the information that is out there. Very few of the applications of modern drugs have actually been TESTED and scientifically backed. Often medical doctors "accidentally" find out that certain patients' symptoms are alleviated when on a drug for another completely different reason. It then...
  4. I can remember my kids eating all kinds of things like dog food, glue sticks, PAPER, play-doh. If you have a child that is celiac/gluten sensitive you would almost need to consider everything in your house a potential source of "poisoning" by gluten. You most certainly wouldn't use a poisonous shampoo or toothpaste on your child, so this would be the attitude...
  5. I forgot to mention no eggs, no oats for me either. I think I have some jam downstairs in the pantry. I'll try that tomorrow (the others are used by the kids and are def. CC) Are the fake margarines or olive oil spreads OK to use?
  6. I hear ya on the freak part. That is the worst part of this, to me. I am older than you, but in some ways I think it's worse (not patronizing) because I've always prided myself on being "low maintenance", and here I am now and I can't even eat food that's offered to me. As for the coffee, after years upon years of being sick and eliminating it because...
  7. OK, I'm having a hard time here trying to keep SOME things in my life. I need "milk" in my coffee in the morning. How do celiacs with milk issues lighten their coffee? (I've tried rice and soy milk with unsatisfactory results) Also, I found a bread that I like, but I'd like to toast it and put something on it for my breakfast in the morning. I...
  8. I have noticed some of the same issues you are with regard to actually feeling worse when I eat gluten. I can only tell you my opinion: 1. I think my gluten intolerance caused me constipation. Removing gluten has left me with dairrhea because I find that I also have a dairy issue. THe two together somehow played off of each other. 2. You are completely...
  9. I think it's just easier for some to look at a list and be able to check off their usual products and know for a fact that it either *is* or isn't on the list. When you're sick and trying to hunt down products that are causing it, I find the consolidated lists to really be helpful, even if there is a minority of foods/products that are safe. I...
  10. You wild game is much less likely to be eating grains than commercial meats. Most wild game eat grasses, berries and so forth because that is in abundance in nature. Personally, I think if more people ate wild game we'd have a lot fewer health issues than we currently do.
  11. Have you verified your BC is gluten free? I always have worse sensitivity to foods (and worse reactions) during my cycle, and I was horribly affected by it when I was first pregnant - I think worse than I would have been had I known I had a gluten issue and watched my diet at that point. Unless you are a large person, 6 pounds seems a lot to lose in...
  12. Any time I have heard anyone weigh in on this subject, it is that the tests have a pretty high "False Negative" rate. Your damage has to be pretty good in order for them to biopsy an area that is affected. However, I'll let more knowledgeable sources weigh in here.
  13. I haven't done the new toaster thing, I'm just thinking I'm not THAT sensitive. The butter I'm using has only "milk" as its ingredient, but I do make sure to use a new one when possible (it was a fresh stick this morning). I have trouble eating plain eggs, so it might be the eggs in it, but I've been feeling sick after chocolate, so I think I can chalk...
  14. I'm thinking I've got another sensitivity in here somewhere. I've had DEDICATED gluten-free products this morning (Pamela's cookies and Schar multigrain bread). I get shakey and shivery within an hour of eating something I shouldn't, so I know it's not leftover from yesterday (when I ate well too) So, it's either something in those two products...
  15. Youa re certainly right about it messing with my emotions. I've been thinking I should just keep it up now as best as I can and just keep tackling it after setbacks for the reason that if I wait, I might just wait forever. I would like to get back to the person I used to be before this all started 5 years ago. I am certainly not even close to...
  16. Thanks for your input. It would be a lot easier if this were the only thing going on in my life, but the **** seems to have hit the fan lately and everything is falling apart. I have thought about coming back to it at a less stressful time, but I'm not sure if that time will ever come! You're right, of course about the diagnosis. IT's just in my...
  17. Aah, one of the only FEW benefits to living in NY state is that we have a law against pre-existing condition denials and rate hikes. As long as I keep my health insurance without gaps of 90 days, I cannot be denied coverage or be put in a risk pool. I guess that's one benefit to living in the highest taxed state (and county) in the entire country. I...
  18. Well, I was not good this weekend. I caved and started eating gluten again. Funny thing is that it didn't bother me so much. I know it's a fluke (my level of reaction depends on the part of my cycle I am in) but it's made me less wanting to do the diet - probably until I get sick again. I KNOW I have to get this down, but part of me keeps going...
  19. I have the "advantage" of feeling some of my symptoms in short time-frame. The LONGEST I have symptoms for is 24 hours, but it's usually closer to about 16 hours. Since I've been watching what I eat, I have a pattern that follows, and I can trace back so many hours and tell the approximate time range of something that's bothered me. I try my best to eat...
  20. Sorry, the first time I posted this was right before server maintenance and things must have gotten messed up.... Anyway.... I have been eating gluten-free for about 2 weeks now, and feeling improved. However, there are times where I eat things that (by reading labels) should be "gluten free" and I get sick. I know that multiple food sensitivies...
  21. Ginny - Wow, I feel for you. I also am in agreement with you. I am not so much angry, but I am certainly having a pity party for myself the last couple of weeks. *sigh* I have been eating meat, fruits and veggies and feeling better when I do, but then I feel just so darned deprived that I eat something else that winds up making me sick, even though...
  22. Is that true about Rice Dream? I wonder if that is part of my problem... I've been trying gluten free for about 2 weeks now and have reactions to foods I thought I should have reactions to - I though maybe I had an "additional" food issue, but I know the vanilla Rice Dream was one of my problem foods....
  23. The endoscope to have the final diagnosis is what requires anesthesia. My kids are all short, some are light, some are average weight. I have 4. I see possible symptoms in all of them, but right now I'm seeing gluten intolerance in everyone! :LOL
  24. I was worried about not having a diagnosis and the cheat-factor. I finally decided that if I didn't pursue the diagnosis, I had to proceed like I had received a positive diagnosis. Anything else would be risky to my health. I may not have passed the "gold standard" test if I had done the test, but this way I feel better and am ensuring I am being responsible...
  25. My understanding is this: (coming from a functional medicine physician that is ALSO a medical doctor) Gluten Sensitivity: gluten makes you sick but you don't produce the IgA antibodies to it. Instead, I think it's IgE or IgG (please don't quote me on this, I get them confused) Gluten Intolerance: You produce the IgA antibodies, and this is the reaction...
