  1. The lady that first mentioned Celiac to me(she had it) had always been 40 or so lbs overweight. She said "I'm one of the big ones...lucky me!" She might not have had the perfect weight but she had the best attiude! I remember saying "It CAN'T be wheat! Wheat is in EVERYTHING!!!" She nodded her head yes while laughing her head off. She was right! PJ
  2. I did it. I'm a heck of a lot older than 21 and I got a couple kids too! I'm Thirty six until next month *sigh*, 5'9" and 140-145lbs. Ive been gluten-free for 4 years or so.I started putting on too much weight in the first year of being gluten-free. I've always managed to stay athletic so the extra pounds weren't going to work for me! (an extra 20 lbs really...
  3. No big(or dissrespect). It's scary to not be able to keep weight on! From what I've experienced and read here it seems to take a while for the villi to regenerate after the gluten is removed. I started putting on weight a little bit at a time at first. It pretty much started about a month after. At 6 months I was feeling good! Then I started putting on extra...
  4. I started to gain weight back and was happy! I'm sm/med boned and 5'9".I went from 120-140.Then 150. Then 155 headed for 160!!!! NOOOOOO! No more bragging about how I "could eat anything". LOL! I kicked all the snacks etc...out of the kitchen and went lighter on the gluten-free Chocolate cake! I exercize regularly(life long habit) and now I'm back at 1...
  5. The PAIN! Ug! I've had a large baby like Ravenwoodglass. The pain of gluten right up there! My labor to Mr.Big baby lasted 4 hrs ,it was over and I was happy! This lasts DAYS sometimes and I'm desperalty trying to function and just want to sit in the middle of the floor and cry. I "sedate" myself with catnip, take hot baths and sleep with a pillow smashed...

If I don't have advice I don't have anything! LOl! I quit smoking before I figured out about the gluten. Honestly, I don't think I'd go for both at the same time. I'd almost bet a kidney that I'd be setting myself up to fail and feel guilty when I did! I understand that thinking behind it tho."Why not just get all the sucky stuff over with at once!" If...
  7. Ouch Debbie! That's how I learn too! I was told my life long stomach problems were "in my head" and because I was "so high strung" by the Dr's in my family. "The physician that treats himself has a fool for a patient" sort of thing. We were too close for any kind of clinical detachment. However, the Prozac did help the depression until I found out what...
  8. Wow! You really sound like you get the neurological thing going bad! I had chronic,life-long depression before I went gluten-free. Thank God for psychotrophic drugs(in my case Prozac) until I figured out what was wrong! I use catmint(sedative)/meditation/self-help books with positive reinforcement and hope for the best. My syptoms are more physical but I...
  9. An MD with an open mind!!!! Wow! Hen's teeth! There are 4 MD's in my family and I've been to a lot of medical community events and all ,but have met maybe a handful of open minded MD's. You're special! I'm new to this forum but have been gluten-free for quite some time. Self DX. (I was right.Gluten hurts!) I'm somewhat "into" home remedies. Bananas...
  10. Daffy, I wondered if my mom might have had a false neg. My dad wont get tested and my mom definalty wont get re-tested so I'm probably going to end up getting tested for the gene if I just have to know.Honestly I really don't. Either way, the end result is going to be the same. My youngest and I do not do well eating gluten at all and need to keep a few...
  11. PJKR here I've been gluten-free for about 4 yrs and I still make mistakes. Mostly I get nailed with barley/malt and not checking the update pages. Duncan Hines frosting got me really good! I remember going through my healthfood store a few times muttering,"Wheat free isn't gluten free" to myself. I can be sick for up to a week and get real cranky! I also...
  12. Hi I'm PJ. I'm a newbie to this Celiac forum but not to being gluten-free. My youngest son and I stopped eating gluten about 4yrs ago in the summer. If I'm eating at home I don't think about it. We rarely eat anywhere else so it's not a common worry for me. I've already gone through "let's find every restaurant that serves gluten-free food and try it!" Stage...
