    I would agree - if you think you have Celiacs - just trying the diet is "fairly" easy. However following a gluten free diet is not cheap either. However, if you are going to go ahead with any testing you need to be on a regular diet so it doesn't schew the testing. I have no idea what this is all costing. I'm extremely fortunate to have good healthcare...

    I have been getting B12 shots for the last 6-8 months. It was determined that I was vitamin b12 and vitamin d deficient.     My son was diagnosed Celiac 4 years ago and he's doing great with his gluten free diet (he's 15 and does an awesome job) - I have started having some issues with my thyroid, so getting my blood checked regularly to regulate that, but the last blood test shows that I have extremely low levels of vitamin B12 and D.     Nice reading your stories of survival in college life. My son is only 14 but i'm already scared to death when he decides to go to college.....(Go ISU cyclones!)     From what they told me it was just a test market and only certain restaurants are trying this out - but i'm sure trying to support it- in the last 2 weeks I've bought 3 pizzas and they said they are selling a lot of them.     Not sure if this has been posted and forgive me if it has - but Godfathers Pizza now offers a gluten free pizza. It is frozen and they can bake it there (and I checked, they are aware of cross-contamination) but you can also take it home to bake. Went there last night and it's awesome! Pizza is the one food my 13 year old really misses - and so it's nice...

    Thanks! I feel soooo dumb! I never thought about the grill until just recently. the little things you do and don't even think about - spend so much time shopping, etc. to make sure everything is safe, and then throw his food on a contaminated grill!

    I won't eat things that my son can't eat in front of him..I'm sure it's cross-contamination taking place that is elevating his levels. Cuz for a 12 year old boy - he's such an inspiration - in handling his diabetes and this.....Plus he hasn't let anything slow him down in playing his football, baseball, basketball etc. So we are just going to re-think...

    My son is 12 so he's at the age right now that if he can't have what he wants to eat - he doesn't want to go - He really misses the pizza places and eating chicken strips at restaurants...the rest he doesn't seem like he misses it - worse part is when you are traveling to find places to eat. thank goodness they carry a lot of things in the grocery store...

    This sounds like my son's situation. He is also diabetic so they check his blood levels for Celiac once a year. The dr. called and said that his levels were still higher than what they want. I was so upset. We've been gluten free for almost a year now. It's really hard because my oldest child who is 18 is not Celiac so he wants his white bread, etc...

    It is hard! My son has Celiac's and we basically just do not go out and eat. It's really hard with him because he doesn't get sick when he is glutened...but I know just because he doesn't physically get sick, it still hurts his insides if he has wheat products.     One of the foods my 11 year old son misses is chicken strips. Thought maybe I'd try to make something such as this for our little informal Super Bowl party - GO BEARS - Any ideas on what I could use for a batter to fry these up for him?????     I agree with you - i saw differences in my son as quickly as you did. Not only with his personality, but his school work...last year struggled with a D average and this year in 6th grade he made the honor roll! I was so proud. So I'm like you. As much of a pain it is to figure this diet out, I'm with you that it is so worth it to have a happy son.......

    OK - Just got the results from a retest for my son's Celiac Disease. It's still showing pretty high. Now trying to think of where he is getting some gluten. Does anyone know if Fruit By The Foot (like a fruit roll-up) has gluten in it???? We've been working so hard at elminating gluten...so was a little disappointed to hear his numbers haven't dropped...

    Thanks for the info on the butterscotch chips! I thought that they were on the listing of things that our dietician gave me that my son could eat.     Aaron, I imagine you are alot like my son, have Celiac but don't have any symptoms that you know of. That's where my son is at. He's 11 and also has Juvenile Diabetes. I'm going to be quite honest with you, IT SUCKS! I feel so sorry for my son, to have to miss out on pizza parties, etc. with his friends and to have to eat something different than everyone...
