girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
thanks so much everyone for your replies. Esp all the bread info! I have been checking it all out. Because we live in rural Ireland, our only heatlh food shop is forty minutes away and doesnt have a great deal of selection. There is a chain store about an hour away (tescos) who have a reasonably good range but its mostly own brand stuff. I didnt see any of... -

girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
HI nini... thanks so much for that. You know I didnt know about putting it in the microwave. All the breads have tasted so dry and crumbly... really horrible. .. like old dried up madiera cake - but without the sweet taste. You can imagine my four year olds disappointment to find this in his lunch box at school! I baked some bread today that hasnt turned... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Or Tork Test
girlfromclare replied to IrishLisa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hi Lisa, I dont have much advice for you except that I am currently in the same position (or at least my husband and son are) and also to say that we too are Irish (living in Ireland though!) We also are looking for some more tests as blood works were negative. Am thinking of trying a ten minute celiac test that someone from the board mentioned at one... -
ARCHIVED Husband Is Negative Too... Im So Confused
girlfromclare posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hubbie came back with negative blood results today. I didnt know whether to laugh or cry! So I cried. Our son was also negative a few days ago and I was depending on hubbies results being positive to confirm hereditary celiac disease. Now we are left no clearer as to what to do. Anyway, we have started the diet. The bread is horrendous! So we are striving... -
ARCHIVED Can Your Iron Be Normal And Still Be Celiac?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks guys. Appreciate that. I thought that was it, that there was no way he could be celiac if his iron levels and platlet count etc were all normal. I guess he could still be negative but I have already started him on the diet too in the hope that it would help alleviate some of his symptoms... although he doesnt see any changes just yet cause its early... -
ARCHIVED Can Your Iron Be Normal And Still Be Celiac?
girlfromclare posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi guys I am waiting for my husbands celiac test results to come back as we are trying to establish a family history. My son has symptoms but his bloods were negative. However we still put him on the diet. its only been two days so nothing major to report just yet. But back to my husband, who has a lot of symptoms, if his bloods dont come back positive, it... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results Are Negative?
girlfromclare replied to mflanders's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, It sounds like your son would definitely be better off gluten free with or without a diagnosis, seeing as he gets so sick when he takes any, especially considering the family history. I cant offer much advice as I am only learning about this whole process myself at the moment, but I can empathise with your frustration with the bloodworks. My son has a... -
ARCHIVED His Bloods Were Negative - What Do I Do Now?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ursula, thanks for that. I just logged on successfully to their website and the whole thing seems very tempting indeed and definitely an option if I feel I need a definite diagnosis... as well as the diet that is. I emailed them to find out what it would amount to in Euros etc and so I will definitely consider it if it isnt astronomically expensive. I know... -
ARCHIVED His Bloods Were Negative - What Do I Do Now?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi again Ursula, I know!!!! He made me angry today because not only was he wrong, and making no effort to listen to what I had to say about the situation, but he also made no effort to suggest any other reason to explain why our son is so upset, run down and practically deteriorating before our eyes and didnt seem sympathetic to our plight at all. I was so... -
ARCHIVED His Bloods Were Negative - What Do I Do Now?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
HI everyone, no news really except that my husband has been tested and we are waiting now for his results to help determine whether celiac disease is in the family or not. However, in the meantime, I spoke briefly to my sons pediatrician again today just to double check and I just asked him (although I already know the answer from having read all your posts... -
ARCHIVED His Bloods Were Negative - What Do I Do Now?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks a million to everyone for your advice. I certainly feel a bit better about this than I did this morning... when I was a mess!! Ursula, I tried and tried to look up enterolab just now but for some reason I cant connect. I will try again in a little while, but just wondering, is it an international thing? I am in Ireland. Would that matter? I will certainly... -

Cassidy, Congratulations on being pregnant. How wonderful is that! I'm sorry you arent feeling well at the moment though! And it must be unusual having cravings while going gluten free.... but then cravings are funny things arent they. Is there gluten in coal I wonder???? Only kidding... but I knew a lady who craved coal while she was pregnant. Very strange... -
ARCHIVED His Bloods Were Negative - What Do I Do Now?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi cassidy, thanks for that. We have had our son on a dairy free diet for about two years now and although there was a marked improvement in the mood swings, he still has desperate reactions to other things that we havent quite been able to pin point. For instance, we know he reacts to apples - they give him terrible pains - but he sometimes will have reactions... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Frustrated!
girlfromclare replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know what you mean. We are in exactly the same situation. My sons bloodwork all came back normal today and I started crying. What kind of a mother does that make me? I am so sick of the 'what if' stage also, because we have been dealing with the symptoms for four years and were so certain that celiac disease was the issue. I cant offer any advice im afraid... -

HI Guys, You might remember my last post, about my four year old boy. He has some symptoms of celiac disease and I was so sure that this was the problem. Let me recap... He has always been unhappy and has had issues with dairy since only a couple of months old. He has issues with certain sugars too and has reactions that involve rolling around on the floor... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Dairy And Sugar Issues. Is He Celiac Too?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi GFBetsy, Thanks so much for your understanding. Its hard to feel like your doing the right thing when you're met with opposition that seems to suggest you are being neurotic. To make matters worse we were to collect his blood results today and our paediatrician told us that after all the allergy tests that they ran, there was no celiac results at... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Dairy And Sugar Issues. Is He Celiac Too?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi again Kim, So glad that somebody can relate to this weird feeling. that cross between guilt and sadness and frustration. I do want Marks results to be positive and although it is mostly due to a desperate need for normality and answers, certainly a lot of it is just to be able to say to all extended family members "see I'm not mad!!" Im really sick... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Dairy And Sugar Issues. Is He Celiac Too?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Kimber and Kbtoyssni, Thanks for your replies. Its interesting that your son (Kimber) should be displaying these things too. Is he much improved since you took him off the dairy/ soy/ corn and gluten etc? Or does he still display this kind of behaviour from time to time? And that you (Kbtoyssni) had similar reactions when you were younger. I have kept... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Dairy And Sugar Issues. Is He Celiac Too?
girlfromclare replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks mouse... appreciate it. Yeah I hope someone might have had a similar experience and be able to share it with me. However, I will have the results of his blood tests in the next couple of days and if he is indeed positive as is my sneaking suspicion, I will post them on here as they may help someone else in similar circumstances. Thanks in advance... -

Hi guys, Im new to this site. I am a mother who is concerned about her four year old son. He has been obviously dairly intolerant probably noticeable since his early months. He used to cry all the time and his stools were distinctly pale in colour. He had a severe case of gastro enteritis when he was about 23 weeks old and was hospitalised for that. As he...
