ARCHIVED Working Out What Is gluten-free In Australia & New Zealand Guide
imagine22 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
There is a great guide to work out whether food products in Australia are gluten free if you have an iPhone. Open Original Shared Link Hope it helps -
I have coeliac disease diagnosed by blood test and biopsy. 1 year after being gluten free I did a repeat blood test and it came back normal indicating my diet was properly gluten free (as it should be!) I have been strictly gluten free for over 3 years now but Im feeling really tired and weak all the time. I had blood tests done and I was vitamin D deficient...

I use a new toaster and have separate jams and butters etc. I only bake gluten free so I just thoroughly washed my existing baking goods etc. I would throw out wooden spoons, chopping boards etc with cracks anyway as they are not hygienic I use the same pots, pans and pasta strainer i use for gluten I just wash well each time and havent had any...

imagine22 replied to imagine22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Australia didn't realise it was only common in Aust & NZ (though I think it was common when I lived in UK too...) INGREDIENTS COMMONLY ARE: Salt, dairy solids, rice flour, hydrolysed vegetable protein (soy and corn), wheat starch, yeast extract, chicken fat, sugar, vegetable powders, hydrolysed corn/wheat/soy protein, corn syrup, monosodium... -
ARCHIVED Mixed Kitchens - There's Gotta Be A Way.....
imagine22 replied to angelschick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have celiac disease and have never had a problem with having a mixed kitchen. I do have a separate toaster though and separate jars of butter and jam to avoid contamination. I use all the same pans and utensils but I do wash them carefully in a dishwasher (all together is fine). I also dont have any gluten flour in the house as we just use gluten... -

ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like I Was Glutened?
imagine22 posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been gluten-free for 2yrs and I don't think I've been glutened before (or I didnt notice ) I eat out regularly but Im usually really careful. [if relevant ... before being finding out I had celiac disease and going gluten free I was nearly asymptomatic - no gastro symptoms!] I got hot chips from a shop I dont usually go to yesterday and I ate... -
ARCHIVED Where Do I Start?
imagine22 replied to djmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have celiac disease (no gastro symptoms either) so for testing my daughters (baby & 3yrs) I went with the saliva gene test first as its less invasive and then if they didnt have the genes I could not worry about testing ever again. unfortunately they had the genes (but no surprise!) so now i will have them do a blood test each year to check, even... -
ARCHIVED Child Of Parent W/ Celiac Disease
imagine22 replied to djmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
my understanding is that if you have the genes for celiac disease you have a 1 in 30ish chance of getting celiac disease at some point. also if you have a first degree relative with celiac disease (like a parent) you have a 1 in 10 chance of having it. I dont know of any stats which look at the combination of the above factors but its going to be higher... -
ARCHIVED 2 Yr Old -neg Blood, Dr Wants Biopsy
imagine22 replied to MomJDL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
statistically 10% of people with celiac disease had negative blood results the blood tests are just a screening test which finds 90% of celiac disease cases - but that means 10% are missed. If the dr thinks its a good idea id do it. can you investigate the video pill version of the endoscopy instead maybe? (sorry dont remember technical name... -
I have celiac disease so I had my 3yr old tested recently (she has had the gene test in the past and does have the genes). The blood test came back negative but she has a severe vitamin D deficiency (despite being outside a lot (but with sunscreen 95% of the time - its australia!) and having particularly fair skin!)? is this related to celiac disease?...

ARCHIVED Test Results For 4y.o.- Thoughts On Whether To Do Blood Tests?
imagine22 replied to crunchy-mama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
wow i actually changed my mind on what to do in my daughters situation after reading your post I had done the saliva gene test for my daughter a year ago (which was positive for the genes required to get celiac disease) so then our plan was to do a blood test every year from 3yrs (first test will be done this week) but i had been going to forget about... -

ARCHIVED Casein Reaction And Celiac Disease (not Intollerance) - Are They Related?
imagine22 posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My baby is 9mths old and vomits (small amounts) from yoghurt and gets severe diarrhea from both yoghurt and cheese. She is also getting asthma and is on medication daily for that. (she is gluten free just in case so far BTW) She doesnt get diarrhea from her from her HA (partially hydrolised formula), but refuses to have more than 1/2 recommended amount... -
ARCHIVED When To Test Asymptomatic Children Who Have A Coeliac Parent
imagine22 replied to imagine22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
thanks. oh i did have another symptom - i was very short and thin from age 6yrs - and then grew at 18years to an average/tall height (169cm about 5 61/2). i wasnt diagnosed until 27years and then it was by accident! -
I was diagnosed with celiac disease (blood & biopsy) when my DD1 was 9mths old and she was getting diarrhoea from something on and off... so we took her off gluten and she was fine then but we reintroduced gluten when she was 2yrs and she has no symptoms this time (she is now 2.5yrs ) (we will blood test her at some point whilst on gluten). DD2 is...

unfortunately being gluten free is NOT a cure for hyperemesis. for my 1st pregnancy i had undiagnosed celiac disease (so i was eating gluten) AND had hyperemesis - on zofran the whole time and lost 10kg and was very ill and hospitalised overnight occaisionally. for pregnancy 2 i had been diagnosed (biopsy) with celiac and STILL got hyperemesis even though...

I desperately crave fluffy white bread and take away batter coatings etc etc. Before i was pregnant i had no trouble with the gluten free diet - i just switched to gluten free bread etc and didnt worry about it --> but now im pregnant I have strong aversions to gluten free bread and pasta and desperately crave the 'real thing'. I have 24/7 nausea...

imagine22 replied to imagine22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for your advice everyone. I was taking a proboitic for a month but after I worked out the vitamins made me ill I really pruned my diet back to definitely gluten-free basics and no medications at all. I live in Australia and all food or medications have it listed if there is even minute traces of wheat, gluten nuts, etc we have among the strictest laws... -
ARCHIVED Cant Take Vitamins, Newly gluten-free
imagine22 replied to imagine22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
my gastro specialist said i could try to get pregnant after only 1 mth gluten free - i waited 3-4 to be cautious! I have been trying to be gluten free about 5 mths but for the first mth or so got accidental gluten in there about 1-2 a week so i didnt count that time in my gluten free 3-4 mths (above). Also I have had a blood test done recently and... -
