  1. Lately my daughter has been showing signs of gluten exposure. Gets worse during the week, gets better over weekends, cleared up totally over spring break which tells me it's most likely from school. We e-mailed her teacher who said the only changes she has noticed with my dd is she uses her hand to erase her dry erase board more than her eraser and has...
  2. Well, hope you like Ohio, LOL! I have not had problems with the school, but now that I have two that are gluten free we'll see what happens. My dd is saying that they don't use food for any projects anymore so I'll have to ask about that the next time I'm at her school because I know my son said they used bread in Science so I don't think that's quite right...
  3. Had to reply to this because I can relate so well! This past week has been horrible with my 14 year old and it all made sense when I found a cracker wrapper from Wendys. The whole house is gluten-free except dh so the only gluten in the house is crackers from wendy's and croutons from when we order salads. So finding a cracker wrapper or anything else...
  4. I should add that I believe it's only in the art room that this applies because I remember when my kids were younger they did the same reindeer food thing with oatmeal and my son just finished a science project he said they used bread crumbs for. He only went gluten-free last week so thankfully his project was before then. I asked at our GI appt. the...
  5. and talked with the art teacher. I was very surprised to learn that according to the teacher they are not permitted to have any art supplies that contain any food products. I don't know if this is district policy, state or what, but it's a relief that it's one less thing I need to worry about. Anyone else find this is the case with their schools? The...
  6. I haven't come across any research that makes an absolute connection, but I can say from personal experience that I am much better off of it. I was diagnosed after going gluten-free because I didn't want to be diagnosed before then since I knew something else was still going on and I didn't want them to just blame it on FM. With the symptoms that were left...
  7. My mother mentioned that about the sweet gum too. I've never had a problem with slugs though. I almost wish I did so I could use all those sweet gum pods. We have about 8 trees lining our drive that are sweet gum. They never decompose and it got so bad I finally bribed the kids with video game time to start picking them up. We've gotten at least a really...
  8. My Mother got a business e-mail letter with updates and forwarded it on to me. In it was this statement: ************************************************
  9. Can't think of any specific product, but I would just read all labels. My sister called telling me about this great organic product for getting rid of weeds and then she said,"Oh, but I guess you can't use it because it has wheat." So I know there are products out there with wheat in. Some people mentioned a while back about using straw to bed strawberries...
  10. The really high RDA's are actually a red flag that the product is synthetic. Basically it falls in the category of using either D2 or D3. While similar the body does not treat them the same. I heard it explained once as it being a mirror image and it's like trying to put a left handed glove on your right hand. Just doesn't fit. Also, one of the key things...
  11. The same thing kept happening to me with her sandwich bread recipe. I was proofing the yeast and I stopped doing that and instead just add it to the dry ingredients and it comes out fine now. The gumminess could be from the falling. When my bread would fall it got more moist and dense and the more if fell the worse it was, but now that it no longer falls...
  12. If anyone remembers I posted a while back that the Elisa Tech. company was coming out with a home gluten test strip. The lady had told me she didn't know the pricing, but that it would be affordable. I noticed yesterday they were on the site, but didn't have too much info. or the price so I e-mailed them and this was the reply: "The EZ Gluten is a...
  13. The way she described them it sounded like you would be able to. I was just thinking today I wish I had them because I had something last night that I'm suspect of and I wish I could test it. These strips would be great for tracking back things to see just what you reacted to. I was also thinking there's this chinese restaurant that I would love to try...
  14. I called and order a gluten flow through test from Open Original Shared Link and they told me that this new product is coming soon. What I ordered is generally not for personal use, but the lady I spoke with said that any day now they will have test strips that you can use for personal use to test for gluten. They said it was in response to celiacs who...
  15. Thank you for the replies. What he has is a heart defect. Essentially the left side of his heart never formed so he has a single ventricle. He had a cardiology appt. today and I talked with his cardiologist about the fat score and he was very concerned and would like him to be evaluated by a ped. GI especially since 3 of us have been found to react to...

    ARCHIVED Dayton Children's In Ohio

We need to take our son to a ped GI and I was wondering if anyone had input on the ones at childrens. Any feedback at all would be great!
  17. Of all my kids I thought my son would have been the one to test normal so I was very shocked to get his test results back as follows: A) Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete *Best test/best value Fecal Antigliadin IgA 10 (Normal Range <10 Units) Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 5 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Quantitative...
  18. Good points. I was talking with my Dr. about studies and he says they pick them apart all the time and find flaws. My internist mentioned that about 80% of the ones published are poor studies and that was a big improvement compared to how many in the past were bad. Very scary when you really think about it.
  19. Here's the one that was recommended to me when my D was low: Open Original Shared Link It works great and I like it because it doesn't taste quite so bad. I can put it on something and take it that way which makes it much easier. I was borderline deficient when I was tested and was put on 8000 IU per day for 2-3 months and that worked. You have...
  20. sure they're products do not contain gluten and thought I would pass on the reply if anyone is interested. We had a couple instances of getting sick on the pizza so we avoided them for a while and I contacted them about it in Sept. After this reply we decided to try some other products and have not had any problems. Thank you for your continued interest...
  21. It's not to test because I don't know if the ingredients are gluten free ingredients, they are. It's because there must be some level of cross contamination of the ingredients themselves occuring most likely during harvesting. Since the company at this point does not test their ingredients for gluten I'm basically testing the end product myself. I've had...
  22. to test a product for gluten? The webpage to see what I mean is: Open Original Shared Link I'm planning on ordering a package of two tests, but was wondering if anyone has ever used it before or has any feedback. I read all the instructions and it seems it will work for my purposes. I used to use a protein drink, but occasionally I'd get a can that...
  23. Jen, Not sure if you've checked this, but just in case I wanted to add since I forgot to mention it that I also do well with the Cinch bars. I use them when we go places where we can't eat or if I'll be out somewhere. Keeps me from getting a blood sugar crash and they're great for the kids. We've eaten so many in the past year it's ridiculous. I keep...
  24. I thought about that, but I couldn't find any stores near me that sell it. I wish the return policies at some of these on line places were better. Most of them will only take it back if it's unused or defective and want to charge a restocking fee. If I can't figure this out soon I'm starting to think I may just place a wholesale order with Authentic Foods...
  25. For me it's mostly the protein powders. I would get some cans that would be fine and then hit one that after about a week there would be a reaction. I think it contains a very small amount, but when it is something you take every day it builds up if that makes sense. My dd was taking it as well and also reacted after a few days so there was no doubt. ...
