Wow, 3 whole years since I last edited this. I'm now 20 years old as of today studying Biology at Rochester Institute of Technology. I was diagnosed with Dermatitis Herpetiformis (the itchy celiac disease) 3 years ago. I hope to study pathology and genetics once I get my Bachelors.

  1. I rarely visit the doctor as he tends to be clueless on my condition and I never really get a chance to talk to him. It took a few different specialists before I was properly diagnosed. Once I get my paycheck I'm going to ask him to run a few tests (if possible). I haven't officially had a biopsy done of the (small?) intestine to check for Celiac, but...

  3. Odd, I was just diagnosed with this in January. Unfortunately I live next to a wheat field and until I get my degree I am stuck in this predicament. Have you found anything that can lessen the symptoms?

  6. i've noticed the shingles rash/blisters look a lot like what happens in dermatitis herpetiformis, another disorder from eating wheat (which i have...joy). so maybe get tested for that too?

That's right, after a month and a week of the gluten free diet the spots are basically gone [i get one or two every now and then].   10. Thanks for the input. As of the last post i have noticed a very very bad relapse ( within a week i had as many spots, if not more. as when i started taking the prednisone). Im going to my normal doctor this week sometime to get his input on the situation since he used to swim as well. The dermatologist i went to, although very bright, seemed to be padding...

I was thinking this over recently, could iodine actually help those with dh? here's my reasoning: for the spots to form, iodine bonds to the gluten and forms the spots on your skin, a decrease in iodine means less spots. But, if we did the opposite and increased iodine in our diets we'd notice more spots. If we were to go on a gluten free diet, meaning...
  12. how many grain servings are they worth on the food pyramid? if they're so huge they should be worth more than 1 right? i was never a big grain eater but i've been trying to get all of the stuff on the pyramid as best as i can. Grains has always eluded me, id get 2 maybe three servings out of the reccomended 6-11 a day. Then again i don't eat breakfast...

Alright, for about every single packaged food i've been eating i read the ingredients now, only problem is anything that doesn't specifically say "wheat" i usually consider as gluten free which is probably very very wrong. I think monosodium glutamate is a bad ingredient but that's all i really know of... can someone give an ingredients list of ingredients...

Hi, im on week three of this gluten free diet thing and im wondering...what's a good substitute to white bread? so far i've tried white rice bread in the wegmans gluten free section, which tastes good but has a texture and dryness of sawdust.
