I'm perfectly fine for about two weeks, my first reaction is acid reflux, and feeling ill. I don't react at all to crumbs or kisses, ever.

ARCHIVED Wow, People Really Don't Get It...
annie76 replied to samcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get this every time I try to explain it to people. Its been two years, and frankly I've given up trying to make people understand that it isn't a lifestyle choice for me. Its not like "choosing" to be a vegan or a veg. If I didn't have celiac, I'd certainally be eating whatever I want. Hopefully I dont offend, but....to me the worse to explain it to... -
Exactly, thats what I'm thinking. I remember it all started with reflux, and went downhill from there for about 2 years. I'm not going to do that again thats for sure! FYI, to you all...It wasn't all you think it would be, the cravings and missing the food that is. I think it just gets built up after years of not eating gluten. I'm done with it, after...

Thats just it. I do have celiac disease. I was dx with an upper endoscopy, biopsy. I have been "trace" glutened about 4 or 5 times in my two years being gluten free, and now, I've done this and I'm feeling fine. Its just strange to me. I've been asked why several times so far, I just want to see what happens, I don't even miss the food that much, being...

I'm coming up on my two year anniversary dx, I haven't been here in quite some time. Anyway, I'm doing a gluten challenge, just curious if any of you have tried this, and what were your results. I've had a ton, and I'm fine, which we all know doesn't mean squat. I think its only a matter of time...

Is anything at burger king okay for us to eat? Thanks.....
-
Well, I've been at this for a little over a year, and I'm getting tired of the same 10 or so things for dinner. Does anyone have any recipes they could pass on? Complicated or easy, I'm getting pretty desperate. Thanks, Julie

I haven't been on in awhile, things have been pretty smooth. In august my mother passed, and its just been a whirlwind of stress everyday since. My kids went back to school, and were all sick. I've been sick much longer than everyone else, 3 weeks now! Its in my chest, head, and now I have a bladder infection. I can deal with the sickness, its the exaustion...

ARCHIVED Safeway Rotissere Chickens
annie76 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called safeway and asked the deli what they season their rottissere (sp?) chickens with. It sounds safe, they have modified corn starch, which by now I know is ok. I just wanted to know if anyone around here eats them? I'm so scared to get sick, I would feel much safer hearing from another celiac that they are safe rather than some shmuk at the deli... -
Will do, I'll probably stock up for when I come home. My town has NOTHING even remotely like that. At this point the owner could chase me with a rolling pin and I'd still go in!!!

Oh, that so good to know! I actually used to live up there, when I was pregnant with my youngest, way before celiac. I love it up there too. I keep hearing about the bonefish, and my buddy did a search on some pizza places around her also. Since I practically live at the outback, and PF Changs isn't my fav, I think I'm going to pork out on pizza!!! Even...

ARCHIVED After You Stopped Smoking Did You Get Worse?
annie76 replied to terps19's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I quit smoking in july 2004, I was dx in aug. 2006. So, three months after my dx I started up again. I just quit again a month ago, I'm done for good. I've been a smoker, and non-smoker with celiac and never noticed smoking, or not smoking causing me any problems. Quitting the smokes just sucks in general, I'm a mess for 4 or 5 days, anxiety, headaches... -
Yep, that is what I was doing too. I think a celiac dx can deffinetly help a person realize they have a problem. Its not only a pain in the A** to eat, but its also a pain to drink! Sometimes it stinks because not only do I not eat like everyone else, but I don't drink, and I too gave up the smokes. So, my only vice is coffee I don't live in...

Actually, my diagnosis with celiac disease saved my life, because I am a recovering alcoholic. Prior to my dx, I drank beer, hard liquor, and lots of it...So after I was dianosed there went the beer...I found myself "switching" to other kinds of alcohol that I could have, which didn't work (of course) To make a very long story short the dx of celiac brought...

ARCHIVED How To Convince Someone!
annie76 replied to annie76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ya, I never had the cankers, I learned about them here. I had one day out of the blue strange chest pain, which ended up being my intestine actually. From there came the constant D, horrible fatigue, and my weight fell to 20 lbs below anything I'd ever weighed before...I just hope my friend will eventually get a test, I'd hate to watch someone go through... -
ARCHIVED How To Convince Someone!
annie76 replied to annie76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thats how I see it too, I've done all I can do. It just hits a nerve every time I hear yet another symptom come up every couple of months or so, sometimes less. She even went in awhile ago for a stomach xray or something like that, because it was bothering her so much. I just really feel like I'm witnessing someone be sick when its not necessary, I want... -
ARCHIVED How To Convince Someone!
annie76 replied to annie76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes I have...I've said look don't you think it is a little strange that your dad has celiac, and you have so many symptoms? I've said you really need to get tested, whats it going to hurt...and on and on. My mother told me once that she would rather not know, which to me is very iggnorant...When I got really bad there toward the end, I would have done anything... -

How do you explain this to someone, who you think may have it? Its my brothers fiance, her dad is a celiac. Matter of fact he's probably the only person I've actually met in person who has the same dx as I do. Anyhow, this girl from time to time gets big horrible mouth cankers, bad D, and gas. She's trippy as hell, I mean really moody! Anxiety, paranoia... -
ARCHIVED Oliver's In Lake Oswego, Or
annie76 replied to Bike2work4me's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
First of all I must say I go to Olivers all the time and it is excellent! Lots of variety, and I've never gotten sick. The service could be better....but the food is very good! I drive there from Salem, its a 45 minute drive but well worth it when I need a pizza fix, or just variety of any kind...I also drive to Portland once in awhile for some surf n... -
Well, we went to lunch today at outback, they usually do a really good job, and I've never gotten sick. Today they were really busy, and the server majorly dropped the ball. She brought my salad out with croutons all over it, then some other guy brought our food out and mine was all messed up. She didn't write gluten free on the ticket just no bun, so...

Ya, I went surfing years ago with some friends, here on the oregon coast...Actually it was more like floating around waiting for nothing! I also learned you really don't want to pee in a wet-suit, that was a pretty good lesson... Anyhow, welcome to the board, I hope you find it as useful as I have...Julie
