  1. HI I am trying to figure out what to do. My son has celiac disease. He is 14, very intelligent, large for his age and determined to play in the NFL. We finally diagnosed about 1 year ago after 12 years of suffering. When my son is gluten free for long periods of time he is generally a good kid. He has his issues like all teens, but is life is able to...
  2. Our family recently went on vacation and went out to eat with my extended family at a local pizza joint. When we arrived (it was not busy) I asked the guys cooking if they would mind cooking my son a frozen gluten free pizza that I had brought with me on a peice of tinfoil (to prevent cc). Our families ordered 3 other large pizzas. They were very cooperative...
  3. Hi I have a 13 year old ds with a huge appetite and who has been in the rebellious stage since birth. I asked the board a similiar ? not too long ago. All the advice you have read so far is great. I would like to add one of the main things that has really helped me. I keep juice spritzers or seltzer water and bags of snack food on hand at all times so...
  4. Howdy, from across the lake in Plattsburgh. I don't really know the area but I have a close friend who is a nurse who used to live there so I will ask her for any suggestions. It is a beautiful city and there is alot to do indoors and out.
  5. My son also displays a great deal of agitation and depression shortly after glutening. We actually discovered his gluten intolerance because of his behavior changes. He was on a candida/ allergy elimination diet this past winter. During this time he became a pleasant, affectionate (hugs daily from son a very big plus) able to focus, and a much better...
  6. It is really wonderful to hear a positive camp experience. My 13 yr. old son is headed off to 2 camps this summer. The first is Boy Scout camp and Dad is going with him. Then he is off to boating, church camp. I called them and they seem to be receptive. I think I'm most worried that I won't send enough or they won't cook enough. My son is already ...
  7. Hi Thank you so much for the great snack ideas. I think usually he really is hungry. He is just starting puberty and is almost 6 ft tall, and wears a mens size 13 shoe, and is very active. Your ideas are great, I think they will help fill his empty left leg. I just bought the book Gluten free for Dummies and I have caught him reading it. He is realizing...
  8. Unfortunately school is just not an option, He is gifted and there is absolutely no help for gifted kids in our district they are actually treated quite negatively. We do provide consequences but when in the downward spiral sometimes we run out of ideas and things to take away. He has always fought against all authority since he was very small. Since coming...
  9. Hi, Yes he has a list of foods that he can eat, unfortunately he is sensitive to food dyes and additives in snickers and many other non-wheat junkfoods, they multiply his behavior issues 10 fold. Also, thankfully he mostly moves thru life to the beat of his very own drum and usually prefers it that way. I guess I am at a loss as to consequences for behavior...
  10. My son also has insomnia. He has always had it. He stopped napping at 6 months and other than illness he never fell asleep before midnight since age 1, until just recently when he was gluten free and taking melatonin. He also spends hours in the bathroom after eating gluten. It is not pleasant. We are at a loss as to how to get him on board.
  11. Hi. I am brand new here. My very large, very hungry 13 year old son has been recently diagnosed. It has been several months now that we have been gluten free as a family. I try very hard to keep enough fun, healthy food in our home. I find though that my son basically will eat gluten and other foods he is sensitive to whenever he gets the chance. When...
