Hi everyone. I just found your messages and want to share my experience (no need to say I'm gluten-free for my celiac disease). For skin: KISS MY FACE. They have very good soaps, i.a. Olive & Herbal Soap, some other olive soaps. They are gluten-free though some others are not. AVALON ORGANIC BOTANICALS. Facical Cleansing Gel (also good for shaving...

ARCHIVED Glutten Free Shampoo
alexa11219 replied to irish's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A week or two ago I bought from Whole Foods Natural Clarifying shampoo and Natural Lite Conditioner by Pure & Basic. Eacn 12 oz bottle is $4.69. Both are organic, no gluten among ingredients. My hair used to be dull and lifeless for years. Now it looks almost like normal hair should look. BUT... I just noticed there's citric acid in the shampoo. From... -
ARCHIVED Cornbreads and muffins
alexa11219 replied to lucycampbell55's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi jhmom/Stacie. I tried the cornbread recipe you mentioned. It's a little heavy, but not only delicious, it's knife- and spreading-friendly. It keeps shape and never crumbles. I'd been keeping it on the lower shelf of my fridge for about two weeks, and it still was fine. To freshen it up I put it in the toaster (for about 4 to 6 min) oven or microwave (for... -

LUCKY SEVEN STIR-FRY 2 bags Success White or Brown Rice 3/4 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast or boneless tender beef, cut into thin stiprs 2 teaspoons Kikkoman Soy Sauce (I use gluten-free Tamari Sauce) 2 teaspoons cornstarch... -
ARCHIVED Support Group In Nyc
alexa11219 replied to erica's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Erica. Last night I found the whole list of support groups in New York State, though I have a suspicion not all of them are functioning now. But the last Thursday, I attended a meeting of one of them in New York City. We met at a restaurant and had a nice dinner with even nicer conversation. It's Greater New York City Celiac Support Group. Contacts: ... -
Hi guys. I have been having problems with my sleep since I was a teenager (now I'm 50+). My severe celiac symptoms started 3 years ago, severe sleep problems - a year later, I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance 5 months ago. From bad experience, I don't trust doctors at all, at least I haven't found any I can trust to. I been taking different pills for...

ARCHIVED Wierd Symptoms - Celiac?
alexa11219 replied to swimmer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi everyone. Today, I re-read once again your responses for which I'm very grateful. I oredered Gluten Sensitivity Stool and Gene Panel Complete plus Milk Sensitivity Stool Test from Enterolab. Hopefully, it'll clear up at least what exactly I'm sensitive and what's causing the symptoms I's still having though I believe I'm gluten-free. Unfortunately, they... -

Thank you Mariann for your support and advice. $349 is a lot, but I believe will serve me well. I'll do it. Thanks again. Alexa -
ARCHIVED Wierd Symptoms - Celiac?
alexa11219 replied to swimmer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
VAGuy, you are asking me how my doctor came to that conclusion. Very simple, empirically, the way my allergologist did it - if he doesn't know that allergy can cause diarrhea, it means it can't cause it. If my biopsy showed the villi were intact (I'm not sure they were), it means for them there's no celiac disease. If there's no celiac disease but I'm much... -
ARCHIVED I'm Getting So Frustrated!
alexa11219 replied to Connie R-E's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, it's called "Welcome to the club". I'm 54. For the whole my life, I've been having stomack/intestinal problems and a whole bunch of other ones. Recently was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. My Father and both grandfathers died of stomach cancer. My daughter is a smart, intelligent, serious girl of 24, studies alternative medicine. Her daughter is... -
ARCHIVED Quitting Beer Drinking
alexa11219 replied to faithladene's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Jen. About a week ago, I saw information about gluten-free beer on this board, something like "Hi guys, I found gluten-free beer", with no additional details. Since beer is not the greatest loss for me, I don't remember where exactly I saw it. Try "search". It's here. Good luck. -
I want to thank everyone for your responses. I just found them, thought my post was lost. You're right, if such thing like a special diet can scare a man away, it says a lot about that man. It's better not to have a boyfriend at all than to have a shallow thing. Thank you for your support. Alexa

ARCHIVED Would like some feedback
alexa11219 replied to bfinnegan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Naradowski, while you still have some time before your trip, I'd suggest find out online if there are gluten-free restaurants and organic food stores (they often have buffet bars) in destination area. If you find any, you won't have to take much food with you. Try this: www.glutenfreerestaurants.org info@glutenfreerestaurants.org Good luck. Alexa -
ARCHIVED Wierd Symptoms - Celiac?
alexa11219 replied to swimmer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, I'd like to share my experience with you, maybe it'll be useful to someone. I'm 54. Had severe stomach pains since my birth. About 35 years ago was diagnosed with gastritis and colitis. Didn't have much help from dieting. Depression, fatigue, sleep disturbance, severe headaches, joint pain, food and medication allergies, asthma - everything like from... -
Thank you Shirley. At least I know I'm not alone dealing with this problem. Anyone else has any experience in talking their children into being tested? I'll appreciate your responces. Alexa

ARCHIVED Help For A Newbie To All This Finding Gf Foods.
alexa11219 replied to Gojo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi everyone. I began my research for gluten-free food all on my own, even before I had my gastroscopy and colonoscopy done, I was striken with grief and despair, didn't know what products were left for me that I was allowed to eat (in addition to gluten problem, I have a large variety of other food allergens). At book stores, cooking section, I found many... -
ARCHIVED New To This...
alexa11219 replied to javamama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Angie. That's Alexa again. I want to warn you to be very careful with your Dad's meds. Lots of them have gluten in one or another form and it's never mentioned in the ingredients. Doctors sometimes forget to keep it in mind. So, it's you who have to keep track. -
Several weeks after I went gluten-free, my bowel movements got normal with a rear exception. And I used to have such severe diarrhea that sometimes I failed to reach the bathroom in my apartment (3 to 4 yard distance!). This expectation that you won't make it is such an embarrasment! I also used to be depressed for many years, when I had no knowledge of existance...

ARCHIVED New To This...
alexa11219 replied to javamama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Angie. It is hard from the beginning. But your Dad's gone through such an ordeal! He'll be a winner in this situation also. Since I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance, every grocery shopping is like going to a library - I carefully read each label, all the info on packages, boxes, cans. Time spent is worth it. I learned a lot from gluten-free cooking... -
I've just read Aimee's message with the listing of dressings and found blue-cheese one there. As far as I know, blue cheese is not recommended for such "freaks" as we are as its blue/green stuff may be grown on some glutenous grains. It was my favorite cheese and still is a big loss for me .

Attention those who live in Rochester, NY. There's a restaurant Atomic Eggplant there. Almost all the dishes on the menu are gluten-free. The food is delisious, portions really big, prices lovely. My daughter found that place when I was planning to visit her family there (I'm the one with gluten intolerance). Since then, every time I visit them, we eat out...

Hi. It may sound funny, but for me it became a real problem. I'm a single woman, 54 years old and recently was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I live in New York. Huge city, lots of single people. For some reason, almost impossible to start a serious relationship even for younger and healthier people. There were several occasions when I thought I met a...
