ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac Disease?
Hollylou42 replied to tired's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac has tons of sympotms that are different for everyone, so it is a possibilty. Although the main symptoms are gastrointestinal related (do you have any stomachaches, gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, heart burn, acid stomach?) I do know that thyrod problems, chronic fatigue syndrome, and anemia, are some conditions that also possess the symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Please Tell Me This Gets Better...
Hollylou42 replied to JustMeInMD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am a college student who lives off campus and is also on a serious budget. So heres what I discovered when I was gluten free (back to gluten now to get a proper diagnosis, but probably no matter what disease I have (GI thinks it could be Chrons) I am gonna head back to gluten-free) -Coco Pebbles and Frutty Pebbles are common cereals in every supermarket... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Direction After A Negative Test
Hollylou42 replied to bcroswell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As everyone has said the blood tests often produce a false negative. The reasoning as I understand it is because the blood test is really testing for antibodies that your body produces to combat the gluten. But these antibodies are contained in your small intestine (which is where they are doing the damage) So the only way the blood test is positive is when... -
ARCHIVED Gi Visit This Morning
Hollylou42 replied to Hollylou42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well I just finished my Upper GI test, it wasn't horrible, but that barium crap is gross. It was orange flavor and I don't think I will be able to touch anything orange flavored for awhile. Good news, again, the radiologist said my small bowel looked fine. And since we are trying to rule out Chrons disease (and my GI didn't think I had colitis of the... -
Tonights episode of Alton Brown was called Sub Standards and featured substitution recipes and ideas if you didn't have bread flour or buttermilk what you could use instead but.... he also covered if you had health reasons for not using foods, what you could do instead. So he talked all about gluten and what it is and then he re-did a past show's chewy...

ARCHIVED Gi Visit This Morning

Thanks jmengert for your quick and helpful reply! -
So it has only been one visit but I have good feelings. Today, I saw nurse practioner Todd Chezicek with help from Doctor Hardeep Singh at the Tallahassee Digestive Disease Clinic. Todd, while not the most personable doctor (he was striaght down to business, but I understand they have other patients to see too), and he did use some medical lingo that...

ARCHIVED Gi Visit This Morning
Hollylou42 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good news, and of course more tests! So after seeing two different family practitioners, I finally saw a specialist. I am in Tallahassee FL, and I went to the Digestive Disease Clinic. Not the most friendliest person ever, I definitely felt like the guy knew what he was talking about. He was just a nurse practitioner but he brought in one of the certified... -
ARCHIVED Ensure Or Something/anything
Hollylou42 replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not expert, and I do agree with the previous posters that the wieght will return to her body with time and the right diet. However to answer your question, since you asked, instead of buying a premixed protien shake like Ensure (that would have all those things you listed you didn't want in it) try a powder. I know that they sell a high protein powder... -
ARCHIVED Just Some Comic Relief
Hollylou42 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I talked to my parents earlier today and filled them in on all of my celiac symptoms, the most problematic having to deal with D and running to the bathroom all the time. My dad said that I should look up a Scrubs episode where they sing a song called "Everything Comes Down to Poo". He siad I would be able to relate since 'poo' has become such a problem... -

Hollylou42 replied to tmk's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congratulations! I am glad to hear your promising news. Yup for me too, the big lightblub went off after a talk with my mom about her stomach problems and my grandfathers stomach problems etc etc.... I hope you are encouraged by your new interesting bit of info and good luck with the GI and further tests. -

So I am about to go on my first trip since going gluten-free. I am going to spend 3 days in SC at a family reunion, which should be easy enough. I am going to be staying at a lake house in the middle of no where so I am going to bring a cooler full of gluten-free food and make my own food and (unfortunatly) not eat at the family potluck all that good food...

ARCHIVED College Students With Celiac Disease
Hollylou42 replied to puguy09's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I lived in the dorm my first year, (which was a couple years ago now and before I even knew what celiac was) and from experiences I had cooking in a community kitchen, you'll have to be careful. Not many girls used the kitchen so it wasn't that bad cleanliness wise, but just think if someone makes something with flour and there is still remnants around when... -
ARCHIVED College Students With Celiac Disease
Hollylou42 replied to puguy09's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hey Brian! Well, I am not officially diagnosed (I am awaitin' my blood test results), but since my mom has celiac, and I have all of the symptoms, signs point to yes in the diagnosis area. Also, since I travel home to see my doctor, which won't be for another two months. I am trying a gluten-free diet to see if it makes a difference. So far, it really... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated Too!
Hollylou42 posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad to read JessieFrees post about not feeling better on gluten-free. I have been thinking the same thing about myself. I have been gluten free (except for one slip-up) for three weeks now, and I still have bad days when my stomach is crampy, and I have D or C, it's not as bad as before but I was so hopeful that going gluten-free would work right away... -

I am new here and I mostly just wanna put out there what I have been feeling and get some feed back I am in my early 20's and been experiencing digestive issues for about a year. I have been lactose intolerent for years now, and at first I thought it was just that getting worse. But then with the diarrhea, and constipation off and on, the bloating, being...
