  1. LOL! I have been very fortunate that my parents are retired and my mom does the bulk of my baking of breads, cookies, rolls, cupcakes and treats for our children. We have found that the chebe bread mixes make the best pizza crusts and bake them ahead and freeze them. Then when we make pizza, I just thaw out a shell, top the pizza and bake. My mom also...
  2. Thanks to you all for your replies. This gives me something to go on. My 9 year old has been asking for tomato soup with his gluten-free grilled cheese and I told him that I would find him some! Now, if I could only find a gluten free Pizza Hut!!! Thanks. Mom 2 2
  3. Richard, where do you get Imagine and Pacific brands? I have heard of Amy's, but not the other two you mention. Thanks.
  4. Are there any brands out there that are gluten free? Mom 2 2 celiac children
  5. What brands or where do you buy the following items that are gluten free: chicken bouillon beef bouillon teriyaki sauce worchestire sauce Has anyone tried Mrs. Leepers pastas? I just received a flyer on them from our local celiac support group. Mucho thanks! Mom to 2 2 celiac children
  6. Sharon, I try to limit my children's consumption of candy, however, of the list you provided, they are all ok, except Hershey's Hugs ( I seem to recall that they are not gluten-free) and I would question the Nestle crunch. Hershey's actually has a list of candies/food that are safe if you contact them. Also ok are Reese's peanut butter cups, tootsie...
  7. Can you share your recipe?? Your daughters are adorable. What a cute picture! Mom 2 2 celiac children
  8. Hi Trixie, Our son age 9 was diagnosed via biopsy in March 2004. His ONLY symptom was constipation. Our pediatrician was very diligent and tested for all types of things which included the TTG,IGA, IGA. All were elevated and off to the GI specialist we went. After his biopsy was positive, we had the bloodwork done on our 4 year old daughter, who...
  9. Thanks. You just confirmed what I have been thinking all along. I thought the same thing, but they are telling my mother-in-law that her results are negative. I am thinking otherwise. Thank you for your input.
  10. Both our daughter and son have been diagnosed with celiac disease this year via biopsies. Both were asymptomatic, but our son was experiencing constipation which warranted further testing. It was only through a diligent pediatrician did he order several blood screens and one was the gluten enterpathy and that started the ball rolling. He had a biopsy, came...
  11. Our daughter has celiac disease (which came from father's side of family) plus she has my peanut allergy. For me, consumption of peanuts is life threatening and is the same for our daughter. You can have different degrees of the allergy. Some people will have a mild reaction such as hives, others have more severe like mine. It is challenging finding foods...
  12. We are going to Ocean City, MD in August for vacation. Our 2 children (ages 4 & 9) have celiac. Has anyone been to OC and found any restaurants that may have gluten free entrees, or at least, can accomodate a gluten free diet. We enjoy going out for dinner several times when we are on vacation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Mom...
  13. Ours arrived too! Our son ate all 3 pieces in one day! The only one he wouldn't try was the cinnamon raisin since he won't eat raisins. All of the breads were delicious, moist and sweet. We are definately going to be placing an order soon. Thanks for the link. Mom 2 2 celiac children
  14. Does anyone have any sugar cookie recipes or mixes that you have tried that were good? Our daughter is allergic to nuts and many of the mixes have almond or nut meal in them. I haven't had any luck. Also, do you have any suggestions for snacks or lunch items. She is 4 and I send her lunch with her to preschool. She is a bit picky and have been sending...
  15. Our four year old daughter is also allergic to peanuts which can make things a little more challenging, but there are foods out there. I started with a basic diet and have gradually added new items once I found out they were gluten-free and nut free. She eats alot of whole foods. I would caution you that are many of the gluten free cereals that have nuts...
  16. I posted lasted week and will paste that post at the bottom to refresh what had occurred. We finally got our answer. Our daughter definately has celiac disease. I have nothing but admiration for Dr. Fasano. I called his office last week to see if he would do a 2nd opinion. I forwarded a release to the hospital where our daughter had the biopsy to send...
  17. I did speak with the Y director and by that time had cooled my jets. She was very understanding and will take additional measures that this did not happen again, as well as, have a talk with the sub. Yesterday, when my husband picked up our son, he received an apology from the sub. Mom 2 2
  18. Our 9 year old son has been gluten-free for 2 months and diagnosed with celiac disease via biopsy. He attends an afterschool care program through our local Y since both my husband and I work full-time. Since he became gluten-free, we have always packed his lunch and snacks for the day. The Y has been informed in writing that our son has celiac disease...
  19. Good luck, Gillian. I just called University of Maryland to see how far ahead they are scheduling for Dr. Fasano and can get an apppointment for my husband in September. Everything has been sent to them for the 2nd opinion for our daughter's biopsy slides.
  20. Hi Aimee, I'll share our experience with you. Our son is 9 years old and was diagnosed with celiac disease in February this year via biopsy. Our son was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4 and has been on medication since age 4. This was diagnosed via a psychologist and our son has taken the TOVA test with medication and without. At the time our son...

  24. I just wanted to share an update of what I did. I took matters in my own hands today and called the University of Maryland. I had called to see if we could get an appointment for a second opinion since our daughter's biopsy results were inconclusive. They will reread her biopsy slides and will obtain them directly from the hospital here where they were...
  25. Thanks to everyone for all of your replies as they have been extremely helpful. Kelly: Regarding the HLA tests: The HLA (human leukocyte antigens) types DQ2 and DQ8 on chromosome six are necessary, but not sufficient for developing the condition. In other words, with these two HLA types, someone has a strong genetic predisposition to develop celiac disease...
