  1. Hmmm... thanks for the input Richard. This was at a Celiac Support Group meeting. I'm going to have to look into this further myself, as I was going on what was said. Thanks. Mom 2 2
  2. gjazz: I would avoid baking with the wheat flour as the others have posted for the same reasons. Terri: If your Christmas cookies turn out well, please post your recipes! Mom 2 2
  3. Also, make sure the tea bags are stapled at the top vs. glued. The glue contains gluten. This was a tidbit I didn't know about that I learned at our local celiac support group meeting. Mom 2 2
  4. I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of your bcp to make sure there isn't any gluten in it. I am very cautious and don't always trust the pharmacist. Also, remember the pill has alot of hormones in them and for some, they feel much better with another form of birth control. Mom 2 2

  7. I'm going to start posting some recipes that we have tried that have been successful and, hopefully, others will join in. Soda Pop Pork Chops 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper 1/4 garlic powder 1 cup gluten free ketchup 2 T gluten free worcestershire sauce 1 T brown sugar 1 cup pepsi or coke 4 - 6 pork chops In bowl, whisk salt, pepper, garlic...
  8. Our children do not wear the medic alert bracelets, however, I saw a couple of children who wore them at our local celiac support group meeting. I believe it is a personal choice, as well. Mom 2 2
  9. Both of our children were diagnosed with celiac disease earlier this year and I am still expanding our known gluten free safe items. Please share what the best gluten free food item(s) that you have found whether they are mainstream foods or specialty gluten free items. I thought maybe I could get some new ideas, as well as others on the boards, and find...
  10. My blood pressure has risen just reading your e-mail and I don't even know you or your son, Omar. I'd go over the school principal and file a written complaint with the superintendant of Omar's school district, as well as, ask the superintendant who their solicitor/legal counsel is as you would like to have their name if you desire to pursue legal action...
  11. Ragu pizza sauce is gluten-free.
  12. Jaime: Here is the recipe that I promised: Pie Crust 1 package Chebe Bread Mix makes 2, 9" deep-dish crusts. (when my mom made it she made a single deep dish one and made the crust thicker. I have never made a pie in my entire life, despite how much I enjoy cooking. a) Prepare the Cehbe mix according to package directions. If using...
  13. You can modify the chebe bread mix for pie crust and it is pretty good. Have you ever ordered chebe bread to make pizza crust? My mom made our son a pumpkin pie and it was delicious! On a recent order I placed, it came with several recipes and pie crust was one of them. I am at work and the recipe is at home, but I will post it soon for you!
  14. Thanks for posting the link to the article. I found it very interesting. P.S. I love your blurb from Phyllis Diller! Mom 2 2
  15. You are quite welcome! What an interesting sign on name you have~
  16. Hi Sharon! Our son is 9 and diagnosed in March this year and has been gluten free ever since. We had him tested when he was 5 for IQ and also was average to above average. At the beginning of third grade (prior to celiac diagnosis), he had difficulty with reading and needed some extra assistance in school for 2 months and then was doing fine. We...
  17. You can also have your biopsy slides reread by another doctor too. Our daughter's biopsy results were inconclusive and they wanted to rebiopsy her again 3 months later. She is only 4, so we didn't want to do that. We had her slides reread by Dr. Alessio Fasano and he confirmed she had celiac disease. It was a very easy process to have the slides sent...
  18. Sounds delicious and something the kiddies will like! Thanks for posting. Mom 2 2
  19. I can't answer on your concern about how early a child can be tested as both our children were diagnosed this year. Our daughter is 4 and our son is 9. Our son was the one that was having problems, had bloodwork, biopsy, etc and was diagnosed with celiac disease. Because of the genetic link, we had blood work done on our daughter (who exhibited no symtoms...
  20. Barbara, I hope you enjoy them as much as we did! I love to pass along the great finds as sometimes they are hard to find and when you do find a good thing, you just want everyone to know! Another site that I can direct you to is: allergygrocer.com Our children are dd, age 4, and ds, age 9, and both have celiac, so I can identify with trying...
  21. At a recent Celiac Support Group Meeting we had samples of the most awesome donuts and donut holes. I recently ordered directly from them. They ship quickly and the baked goods are fresh and reasonably priced. I highly recommend that you check out their website. I don't have celiac, but our 2 children do and I thought I was actually eating donut holes...
  22. I had seen a couple of months ago postings about starting a gluten free recipe club postings. Did one start? If not, I would be happy to start one of weekly postings for everyone. If you're interested, please post that you are. If one has started, can you advise me where it is. I am always looking for new ideas, love to cook/bake, and also share recipes...
  23. The sweet corn cake is gluten free is. I had called when I found it in the grocery store and had the same concern. I buy it all the time and the kids love it. As of yesterday when I went grocery shopping, our Super Wal-mart didn't have any. Our kids love it! Enjoy! Mom 2 2
  24. Molly, Thanks for the list. I actually found something on the definite no-no list (snickers poppables) that I didn't realize wasn't gluten-free as I assumed they were because snicker's candy bars are, but saw this before I gave them to our son. This board just goes to show how useful and helpful it is to others. Thanks again for posting! Mom...
  25. Sharon, Kudos to you on how you openly discussed with your son about celiac and diet changes. Many a times, people want to shield children and don't tell them the truth and sugar coat things. If adults treat children in this manner on a continual basis, a child never learns how to deal or cope with the struggles of life. I applaud your willingness...
