  1. Thanks, Eddie - I will check into that and let you know if I can find out more about it's gluten-free status...I definitely won't try it unless it is given the stamp of approval!! Tiffany - yes, it is for blood sugar issues...I'm being tested for diabetes in November. I've had blood sugar issues for years (had gestational diabetes with both pregnancies...
  2. I'm trying to balance my carbs with protein, but am getting sick and tired of eating meat with my snacks. I can't eat nuts or peanut butter (I think they mess me up since I had my gallbladder removed) and I can't eat cheese/dairy. So...I was thinking maybe a protein powder added to water might help. Or, if anyone knows of any protein snack bars that are...
  3. Hi - I, too, have had cycle problems and gastro problems that seem to go together. I had my uterus removed (kept ovaries) in Sept 03. I was diagnosed with Celiac in April 04 and have been gluten-free since then. Since my ovaries still cycle, I still get worse gastro symptoms around the PMS/cycle time, although I do feel a lot better physically with no...
  4. Congrats that your parents are both negative!! Hopefully, your brother will be negative also. My Mom was negative, Dad positive, brother and his children negative. I was really surprised that my brother was not positive because he is a cereal junky, and always has been. One year when we were kids, we gave him some huge serving bowl as a Christmas present...
  5. Hi, Stacie - I was just checking on you to see if your GI doc or PCP were able to figure anything out for you. I also wanted to mention that there is a test called a HIDA scan that tests the functioning of your gallbladder. Mine was only functioning at 1%. When they had done just the ultrasound a few months earlier, the ultrasound said everything was...
  6. Hi, Stacie - I was just wondering if you have had your gallbladder tested (or perhaps already removed). I know with that you can get the symptoms you are having and it seems like a lot of people around here have had their gallbladders out (like me). Of course, I tend to think had the Celiac been diagnosed first, then maybe I wouldn't have had to have...
  7. Kathleen - That is interesting about the fibrocystic breasts - I too have had trouble with mine being very lumpy and they got much worse in the winter of 2002, just after I had had my dryness problems and was wondering if I was ovulating properly. Since I had my uterus removed and am not having the severe dryness and my gyn thinks that my ovaries are...
  8. Tiffany - Thanks for the info - I'm going to do a little research before I go back and see him and see what he can do for me. I definitely want something that will cause the least amount of systemic absorbtion. LISA
  9. Hi, Ladies - This is all very interesting to me. The year before I was diagnosed, I was having lots of gastro and female issues. After a few months, I realized that the worst gastro pain and trouble was PMS time, so, naturally, I figured there was a connection. Of course, the doctors all said no. I then was told after a lap for endometriosis that my...
  10. Hiya, Ruth - Glad to hear your tests were negative, although it does make it difficult when you are trying to get a diagnosis. Do you know which tests they did on you and which lab did them? I know that different labs run different tests and I was curious to see which ones yours did. LabCorp did mine and I heard they are a little outdated. Is your...
  11. I had my uterus removed (kept ovaries) in Sept 03. I had had my gallbladder removed in May 03 and had been very sick. The whole time there seemed to be some link between my bad gastro issues and when my cycle occurred. I wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until April 04 after having some repeat problems (ERCP w/sphincterotomy to remove stone in bile duct). ...
  12. Mariann - Thank you very much for your response!! Since I posted this, I have been reading a lot more on this board and the delphi forums one - I think maybe I have read about your situation on one of the boards. It is definitely making me curious about things. I was actually logging on to post a question about the DQ1 gene when I saw your response...
  13. Strack2004 - I hope you can get some answers to what is going on. After my gallbladder was removed in May 2003, I did have a lot of relief, until Jan 2004 when everything got messed up again and then they found the stone in the common bile duct. It is so frustrating that they did not figure out my Celiac before removing my gallbladder. Of course, I...
  14. Hi, All - I wanted to post my children's results. I used Prometheus Labs and did the Celia Plus panel. That does the Celiac serology and then if that is negative, they follow-up and do the gene testing for HLADQ2 and HLADQ8. Both children were negative on the serology - Yea!! My 10 yr-old tested positive for HLADQ2, but negative for the other gene and...
  15. Lee - I hope that your daughter starts improving very soon. This board has been great for me, too, and I wanted to let you know about another site as well. I hope I am writing the link correctly...let me know if you cannot get to it...it should be Open Original Shared Link You have to sign up for it, but it is free. There is great support there also...
  16. Hi, Karina - Glad to hear your echo went well!! And it is good that the Gilbert's won't do any harm. I have not been jaundiced, just had the bilirubin creep up and down. I feel like I'm eating too much meat since going gluten-free. I need to find some protein that isn't chicken or beef because I'm going insane!! I eat eggs sometimes for breakfast...
  17. Hi, Tammy - thanks for checking on me! I have been feeling rather miserable the last week. I really think I am having another partial blockage of my bile duct because I'm having the same pains I had before they did the ultrasound to notice I had a stone in my bile duct. They did an ERCP w/sphincterotomy and that helped a lot, but now the pains are back...
  18. Karina - Just wondering how you are doing - did they say you have Gilbert's? Mine hasn't said anything yet, but thank goodness, my bilirubin did come down a little bit in the last test. I was mistaken about the lady I'm e-mailing having hemochromatosis - it turns out her brother has that. I just found out yesterday that my Mom has it, but they told...
  19. I had my gallbladder out in May 2003 after a few horrible months of illness. It was only functioning 1%. Now that they have figured out I have Celiac, I think the gallbladder only had to be removed because they missed the Celiac, however, I wonder if by that time it had to be removed anyway because of being damaged. Does that make sense? I guess I wonder...
  20. Just wanted to let everyone know that I went ahead and ordered the kits from Prometheus Labs. I feel like I'll have regrets if I don't do the full panel of serology - especially since my tTG (and my Dad's) were both negative and I know the partial test my doctor was talking about relies heavily on tTG. I called both the hospital and a local lab and both...
  21. Carol - Yes, I have heard of Enterolab, but I was hoping to have this covered through insurance and I figured the doctors would question the Enterolab results, so I'm using their methods for now. Thanks, anyway!! LISA
  22. Ok, everyone...what do I do now....I have read a lot about the blood tests and seen the recommendations by Prometheus Labs and Danna Korn's site that suggest having like 5 things done (IgA, IgG, tTg, EMA, and Total Serum IgA) and the HLADQ2 and HLADQ8 genetic tests. I faxed a letter to the pediatrician along with copies of the info from the websites. He...
  23. Dana - I agree with you - I thought it was crazy that he said not to test them. I knew I would go back and ask, but I am glad I was able to gather some info first. I really am convinced that my brother's kids may not have been tested with complete work-up (he hasn't gotten copies of their stuff, just was told they were negative). I feel like mine will...
  24. That's amazing....they said I had Epstein-Barr Virus, too, and that was so long ago they were using it interchangeably with Chronic Fatigue. I have been thinking since all this came to a head in early 2003 that I had an overgrowth of yeast. In January 2004, I was going insane trying to figure out what I was eating that was messing me up - I felt like it...
  25. Thank you everyone!! I agree with Dana that it makes me feel so much better, too, knowing that I'm not alone and it helps so much to get advice from people who have been there before! Dana - How long after you were diagnosed did you find out your daughter is Celiac? Is she full-blown Celiac and does she have any additional problems? I am in the process...
