ARCHIVED Supplements Question
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lisa B - Thanks for the encouragement...I definitely need it! Has your Mom's illness been due to Celiac? How about yours? At this point, I'm assuming the Celiac is responsible for the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome I got 20 years ago that I've had off and on since then. It is frustrating to always feel like there is something wrong with you. I applaud you... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Being Angry?
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been wondering about my liver, too. My PCP did a Liver Function Test and it showed my bilirubin was elevated a little and one of the other ones isn't high yet, but it is like 3 points away from being high. The gastro doctor on Thursday wanted to follow-up on it, so he did another LFT - this time with both the direct and indirect (the other one was... -

Tiffany - Thank you very much for your response! It is so well-worded and makes a lot of sense. You are very smart to have been able to figure these feelings out. I'm sure I will re-read it many times until all this sinks in. Thanks, again LISA -
ARCHIVED Supplements Question
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
WOW!!! Lisa B. and Donna - thank you soooo much for all the detailed info!! I have been worried about how the supplements would affect my stomach and now I feel like I have a lot of options. This is perfect timing, too....I had the blood work done on Thursday - he is checking the fat solubles A, D, E, and K, Folate, and doing an Iron Panel. I tried to... -
ARCHIVED Supplements Question
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Lisa B - If you're still out there, I would like some info about supplements and how to keep from having them make you nauseas. So far, I'm only taking the Viactiv chews, and I am doing ok with them (have a little metallic-type taste in my mouth sometimes after taking them). The last time I tried to take vitamins was in Oct 2003 and I had to stop because... -
Karina - You and I seem to be on the same path! I was diagnosed with Celiac in late April and I just had my follow-up with the gastro doctor on Thursday - he also mentioned Gilbert's to me since my bilirubin is still elevated - in fact, it's higher than it has been the whole time and this is after having had an ERCP w/sphincterotomy in April (you'd think...

I am feeling soooo angry and grumpy right now and I just don't know what to do. People I know just don't understand what having Celiac is like. Thank God for the message boards as a way to connect with other Celiacs! Of course the diet is incredibly challenging, but if that were the only obstacle, I think I could handle things better. It is the extra...

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests
lisa922 replied to bonnieo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Jo - I definitely think you are doing the right thing by following up with the gastroenterologist. It is amazing how everyone interprets these tests differently. My Dad has always been burpy and had been told in years past that he had GERD. He said he was once tested for an ulcer, but it turned out he didn't have one. He only got tested because... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Blood Tests
lisa922 replied to bonnieo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jo - Your son's results are very similar to mine - my IgA was a weak positive of 24, my IgG was a high positive of 127, but my tTG was negative. The lab that did my stuff, also did some reticulin antibody tests and 1 was positive and 1 was negative. The interesting thing in all this was that the two that the results say are most specific for Celiac ... -

Open Original Shared Link You may be interested in this website. It is about Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura. I don't have this and really don't know anything about it other than what I have read. Apparently, it runs in the family on my Mom's side, so she mentioned it to me recently while they were trying to diagnose my problems. I thought of it while... -
ARCHIVED Viactiv Calcium Chews/vitamins
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you, both, for your responses. It seems to have been better over the last few days. I still notice it, but not quite as bad. I think it may have had something to do with what I was eating (or rather not eating) instead of the Viactiv. I've been making a conscious effort to get more food in me and I think that is helping. I had a salad last night... -
ARCHIVED Viactiv Calcium Chews/vitamins
lisa922 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was just diagnosed on April 23rd and have been gluten-free since then. The dietician suggested I start taking some Viactiv calcium chews. I haven't been able to take vitamins for a little over a year because they make me nauseas. Since I have been taking the Viactiv, I am noticing a very weird taste in my mouth - it is kind of metallic-like. I'm wondering... -
ARCHIVED Advice For Test Making...
lisa922 replied to azza's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! Personally, I did not notice any pain from the biopsy, but I did it at the same time as an ERCP to clear my bile duct, so I did have pain from the ERCP. I had and endoscopic ultrasound a few weeks earlier, which is probably similar to what one would feel with just a biopsy, and I did not have pain with that...maybe just a little sore the next day and... -
ARCHIVED Test Results Are In.....
lisa922 replied to Tasha2004's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi! I am in the process of trying to figure out my results also. My ttg was negative and my Iga was only 24, but I had some other numbers that were higher. My small intestine biopsy does show damaged villi. Today I spoke with a very knowledgable nurse at a gi office - she told me that if the ttg is positive, even with a normal Iga, Celiac should be investigated... -
ARCHIVED Abdominal Pressure Points Or Tender Spots?
lisa922 replied to Karina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, I have not ordered a test yet from Enterolab, but I am most likely going to do that soon. You may want to consider having an Endoscopic Ultrasound. In this test, they go in through your mouth and then are able to ultrasound the bile duct to see if there are any stones in there. My GI did that prior to the ERCP since with ERCP there is a risk of developing... -
ARCHIVED Support Group In Nc?
lisa922 replied to Ashley462's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ashley - Hey! You responded to my other e-mail about looking for a doctor to treat my Celiac. I wanted to let you know I contacted Ernest about the support group in Boone and he said none was ever set up. I haven't called the lady for Winston yet, I'm going to do that today. Do you mind if I ask your age? I was told that Dr. Ivor Hill at Bowman Gray... -
Thanks, Ashley - that would be great! LISA

ARCHIVED Abdominal Pressure Points Or Tender Spots?
lisa922 replied to Karina's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Meenucat - I know exactly what you mean! My pain is above my belly button and right under where my ribs comes together under my sternum. If a doctor examines me and pushes on it, then it hurts a lot. Do you still have you gallbladder? My pain started when I had some weird gastro attack and then it turned out only 1% of my gallbladder worked. That... -
ARCHIVED Biliary Tract/pancreas Problems
lisa922 replied to lisa922's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mariann - thanks for your reply - that was kind of the answer I was afraid of!!! I'd like to blame every symptom on one thing, but I just don't think that is what is going on here. I was only diagnosed on April 23rd, so I have only been gluten-free for about a week-and-a-half. I am still having bowel problems off and on, but I suppose it will take a while... -
I had a severe attack in Feb 2003 that left me with abdominal pain and pale yellow stools. I couldn't eat anything other than easily digestible waffles and bagels - all the things a Celiac shouldn't eat! A few months later, a Hida Scan showed my gallbladder to only be working 1%, so it was removed and we thought that was the problem. I also had some female...

Hi - I live in Western, NC (Wilkesboro) and am about 50 min from Winston-Salem and 1 hr 20 min from Charlotte. I have a GI and an Endocrinologist, but am looking for a Primary Care Physician in the area who is well informed in Celiac. I'm feeling confused because I don't know which doctor is supposed to be following up with me for blood work and supplements...

Hiya! I just went gluten-free on Friday night after finding out by biopsy results that I have Celiac. I've been trying to be extremely careful not to eat anything with gluten. Earlier today I accidentally licked an envelope and then had potty problems after that and I've been wondering if that could have done it for me! Argh! It's hard to remember you...

ARCHIVED Supplements Question
lisa922 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was just diagnosed on April 23rd. I'm waiting for the gastro doctor to call me back with an appointment with a dietician and then I'm supposed to see him in a month. I was wondering if any of you started on supplements right away and if you did, did your doctor tell you what to take or did you just do it on your own? I feel like I'm certain I am lacking...
