  1. Do any of you have both? While my kidneys are functioning very well right now, my doctor wants me to pay more attention to my diet. She gave me a booklet with information about what foods to eat/not to eat with kidney disease, but I'm not sure how to balance it all with a gluten-free diet. Potatoes, for instance, are not a good food for kidney disease...
  2. Does anyone have any hints for cooking for one busy person? I'm a single mom, working and going to school, and of course there's just no time. I've learned to cut a lot of recipes down to one serving, but then I have to cook every time I'm hungry. I can make regular recipes, but my freezer's pretty small and there's not much storage space. One thing...
  3. Two years ago, I was on chemotherapy for a kidney problem. I was nauseated and either couldn't eat or ate some strange things during those 3 months. I did eat wheat because sometimes that was the only thing that appealed to me. But as long as I was on chemo, the wheat didn't seem to bother me. (Or maybe I was just too sick to notice!) Once I finished...
  4. Several years ago, my hair fell out. Not completely, but it got really, really thin. I never knew what caused it, or what caused it to stop. But lately I realized this happened at the same time I was having so much trouble with my stomach, before I figured out I'd developed gluten intolerance. And since I stopped eating wheat, my hair hasn't fallen out...
  5. LibbyAnn- Welcome! You can take injections for pernicious anemia, or sublingual tablets that you place under your tounge and they are absorbed through the mouth instead of the stomach lining. That is what I do.
  6. I've just started reading the gluten-free forums, I did a search for pernicious anemia and didn't find what I wanted, so I thought I'd ask. I identified wheat as the source of my stomach problems about 8 years ago (one of my doctors later agreed), and then 2 1/2 years ago, I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia. I didn't completely stop eating wheat until...
  7. It's sad that people don't even try to understand. My own mother can't seem to remember that I don't eat wheat. Last time we were there for dinner, she cooked macaroni and cheese, garlic bread, and meatballs made with bread crumbs. Which left me only salad and vegetables to eat. It annoys me because my father & sister are both diabetic, and my mom...
  8. Gluten-free breads? BLLEECCCCHHH! Horrible. With that said, however, I did find Bob's Red Mill gluten-free Bread Mix at my local Kroger, and it's pretty good. Very eggy flavor, if you like that. Not too hard to make. It makes acceptable sandwiches without having to toast it first. If you're making bread from scratch, I like Bette Hagman's ideas in...
