  1. I think about that stuff now too. My husband is a football coach and we sometimes feed some of the guys dinner troughout the year. Since being diag I am always asking him to make sure none of them have any food alleregies. I feel bad feeding them to much gluten the night b/f a game, so I now make my meetballs and desserts gluten-free.

Your gift was thoughtful and that is what counts!=)

Cereals are made with mainstream oats, which are contaminated with gluten grains during growing/harvesting/storing. The only oats that are guaranteed to be free of gluten contamination are grown in dedicated fields and processed on dedicated equipment. To date, I don't know of any prepared product that is made with gluten-free oats. They are available as oats and as oat flour.

It's a bummer, but cereals made with oats are just not safe for us.

Thanks so much for the helpful information.

  3. Yesterday for the first time I mis -read the lable on a box of kix's. I ate 3 pices all excited that I could eat them ... then I realized they contain whole-grain OATS! How could I miss that?! At first I thought I was ok , then a few hours latter I go GI problems and have had them all day today as well. How long do you think it will last? Only been gluten-free for a few mths. Also, are lable's going to have to put in bold aleregies?

Hi, another newbie here with desperate need for help. Long story short....Dx 10 years ago with IBS, recently feeling more and more miserable. Severe headaches, abdominal pain and distention after eating, mouth ulcers, very gassy, off and on bouts constipation/diarrhea, parathesia, blisters on fingers, intolerance to heat, and sudden hypertension. Inability to lose weight even though exercising more and EXTREME fatigue. Ended up at doctors office because of blood pressure and went through all symptoms. The first thing he mentioned was celiac and then went on to others including adrenal issues. Just got blood work back and here are results. (does this look like complete celiac panel?)

Tissue Transglutaminase Ab, IgA 1.2 Reference <7 neg >7pos

    Gliadin Peptide Antibodies, IgG, IgA 1 <19=neg >31 =pos

Gliadin Peptide Ab, IgA 6 <19 neg >31 pos

Reticulin Antibody IgA, Reflex <1.5 <1.5 neg

performed at ARUP lab in Salt Lake City, UTAH

The nurse said "everything is normal" except your ferritin level which was 13 with 10-291 being normal and my B12 was low (which I've been told for years). So where do I go from here because I feel anything but normal? Also all thyroid test were normal too. He did mention that if all of this came back negative, I should still go for endoscopy. Please give me your advice and/or opinion.

I had a lot of the same symtoms as you for many years... lots of IBS diag. the last few years had been the worst. never had the blood wrk done, have a family history of celiacs, and had an endoscopy they took 2 biops, they said they could not rule out celiacs and there was some damage to the intestant. Just sent me home. after that i felt more frustrated. Had my second son 9mths ago could not gain weight during the preg and had all sorts going on and he was about 6wks early 4lbs somehting when we brout him home. After that I started to gain more and more weight .... could not loose a lb... excersiced ate right , tried to nurse without supplementing formula, never had enough milk. I was worse than I ever been , til I had enough and 2mths ago my skin rash was worse than ever!!!!went to the doc gave my stuff for the itching and I asked if my rash could be related to celiacs , he did not think so & said it would'nt hurt to try the gluten-free diet, i did. I feel better than I have in years.

  5. I am so sorry to here that they won't coroperate with you. I was in education and now stay at home with my kids. But I have a good friend who is still a K teacher and she has a few kids on special diets in her class. A helpful tip that she gave me was to pack a special snacks in a lunch box that can be kept in the classroom. Also a lot of schools have rules (that I think are unfair) they are not allowed to heat up or keep cool kids food. So the other tip i got was to use a thermos. I am new at all this gluten-free stuff and have a soon to be 3 and starting pre-school this year who may have celiacs too. So those where the things she told me. I hope this helps... good luck!

I didn't see the city you live in ... I grew up in Centerville! I now live in Warren County ... Jungle Jim's is a GREAT place to shop for gluten-free. They have a large section devoted to it ... of course, in the context of the size of the store, it seems small.

Carraba's and PF Changs, by the Dayton Mall, both have gluten-free menus.

Wow, thanks for the tips ... I'll have tocheck them out!

Well, I had the blood test done 4 years ago and it came back negative. I did Enterolab last year and that came back positive. The dietary response has been amazing and I'm so much better now after having been sick for years. The closest I have to a diagnosis is the internal med. Dr. I saw said the "proof is in the pudding" and said I have gluten sensitivity. He offered to do a scope, but I would have to go back on gluten for that and I just can't. Both my daughters also react to gluten and I was quite surprised at how quickly they improved off of it and how much they react if they have any. I was going to try to get a good diagnosis for my oldest dd since I was afraid she wouldn't comply with the diet without it, but it's really just not worth the hassle. She was content with the Enterolab results and has been totally following the diet since she feels so much better.

Just curious where you get your flour and things since you live fairly close to where I am. I found a place in Fairborn that I like for getting rice flour etc.

I am finding shopping to be exausting right now... but here in dayton I like Traders Joes and Dorothy Lane market... they both have Gluten-free shopping guides on their websites. Where do you go in Fairborn?

My daughter is just going to be 3 and has lots of gastro problems and since I have had such a positive results from going gluten-free I am taking her to a GI doctor to see what they say. Fourtunatley she is not a picky eater and I may just go ahread and put her on the diet to see if it helps her.

  8. where do i go from here... I have suffered celiac (gastro and others) symptoms from as long as i can remeber ... in the last few years since I have had kids have been the worst (many unexplaned prgo problems, too). A year and half ago I went to see a GI here in ohio and was basically blown off. He took only 2 biops and that came back negitive. However I had "unexplained" damage to my intestants. I have never had blood test done. but have been to my family doctor for skin rashes and finally had a bilistery itchy rash break out about 2mths ago .... went to the doc about it... gave me stuff for the itching and sent me on my way. Well that was the day i have had enough suffering!!!!! Have been Gluten-free since! I feel great, everything from bones aching, to gastro, and skin problems GONE!!!! My husband says I have a pep to my step now. So my question is where do I go from here? Do I go see someone to get a official diognosis? and WHO? Am I allowed to join a local support group?

    Thanks

    Becky
