  1. Hi Jaime, I can sympathize with you quite a bit. I was low gluten for about 6 months and then did a challenge to get my firm diagnosis. I was "lucky" to have the associated skin condition, DH, and the skin biopsy was what confirmed it for me, my blood results were inconclusive. I had to do my challenge for two weeks before my skin broke out enough for...
  2. I finally traced my remaining breakouts to advil, iodized salt and products with malto-dextrin in them. (which I think is corn, but nonetheless, it caused breakouts) Hope you get it figured out, the itching is miserable. The last yeast/bladder infection I had I really think was caused by eating too many salty nuts!

    ARCHIVED New Disorder

I thought my skin rash was caused by a corn allergy for a couple of years before being diagnosed (through biopsy) with DH. I never connected it in my head to wheat because the reactions were delayed with wheat, but eating corn would cause immediate itching. I think that's because corn is just hard to digest. Now, without gluten, my skin is clear and I can...
  4. I was diagnosed in May, but never took Dapsone because of drug allergies. For a few months I had to be very careful and found that other things could also trigger the outbreaks, like advil, iodized salt and maltodextrin. Without those things, I am finally clear, but now sometimes get GI symptoms with some of the premade gluten-free products. If I stick...
  5. I had some mild GI syptoms, but that didn't bother me as much as the DH. Since going gluten-free, I have no DH outbreaks, but if I accidently get gluten, I get some GI symptoms, again nothing awful, but I do notice. Denise quote name='janie-b' date='Oct 19 2007, 04:24 PM' post='354706'] Thanks for all the interesting discussion, folks. I'm in my fourth...
  6. The further you get into your healing the more quickly you can rebound from accidental glutening. I was diagnosed in May and for a few months I had issues with the gluten-free baked products, anything with maltodextrin in it and a few other things. I got accidental gluten through popcorn at a movie theater and felt awful for a few days! Now, more than...
  7. I've had DH on my hands and fingers many times. Mostly on knees and elbows, but also on my ankles, arms and buttocks. Glad it's all cleared up now! Iodized salt has given me the rash, so maybe you were just getting DH from the iodine directly. Now that I'm gluten-free, I can handle some iodized salt, but it took awhile on the gluten-free diet. 8. Just a basic "good luck" and remember that it can take awhile to clear up and really figure out what you can eat. I would recommend going very basic for a few weeks, meats, veggies, fruits and rice or potato. I was diagnosed in May and while I cleared up pretty quickly, I still got some outbreaks for the next few months. I had to cut out advil, anything...
  9. Regarding the insurance thing, I think if you have a group policy, you should be fine. If you're applying for an individual policy (like for self employed, as we are) it can be an issue, not necessarily that they will deny you coverage, but it could increase the cost quite a bit. I've heard the same for life insurance, but I don't know. I figure that I...
  10. If you still have a spot or two left you could ask the dermatologist to biopsy that, just to make sure you've got the correct diagnosis. But if you're working with a dermatologist who know DH, it's probably not completely necessary. My dermatologist took one look and knew immediately it was DH, she did a skin biopsy and it was positive. I went to the gastro...
  11. Hi Itchy Meredith (love the name!) I was diagnosed with DH in May and have mostly cleared up at this point. I've found a few things that trigger an outbreak, other than the obvious. They are: advil, iodized salt and maltodextrin (like in flavored chips) I've read about the advil and salt so those didn't surprise me. But I got a few active blisters...
