  1. As the result of a heart attack, I had 4 stents put into my heart last Monday. Since being in the hospital, I have had serious gluten reactions...heightened anxiety/aggressiveness, flue like symptoms w/ 2=3 degree temp, very achy, stomach very upset, and naturally, watery diarrhea 4-5 times a day. None of the "doctors" seem to have heard of Celiac disease...
  2. I recently tried a wheat free/gluten free/casein free rice spaghetti under the "Mrs. Leeper's" brand (American Italian Pasta Company of Kansas City, MO)(www.aipc.com), and it was the best that I have tried. It wasn't mushy as most rice spaghetti's are. They also make other types of pasta such as elbow mac, but I haven't tried them yet. This was purchased...
  3. I eat "Tropical Chips", which are made from plantains....they are 100% natural and no preservatives (so it says on the package). Plantains look like bananas, but have to be cooked before eating. The ingredients list says that they are cooked in sunflower oil and/or rice bran oil and/or corn oil. They are available in "regular" stores.
  4. Recently I was "glutenized", probably from cross contamination. In the process of trying to track down the culprit I contacted Motts re their "Mauna La'i" drink. Their response was that all of their products are gluten-free EXCEPT Mr & Mrs T Pina Colada and Clamate. Hope this helps.
  5. I lost about 10 lbs after I started on a gluten-free regimen. Strangely, during the two years when I was suffering from really bad "D", I did not lose weight. I believe that most of the loss was fat. Re self diagnosis....I didn't use to believe that this was a good idea, but during my two years of " living in the bathroom", I sought help from four doctor...
  6. The 'Progresso" brand of soup has several varieties that are gluten free, for example "Creamy Chicken w/ Wild Rice". They are very good about listing all ingredients, including soy and milk products, in large letters at the end of the ingredients list.
  7. Minibabe....I also cannot take a deep breath w/o the feeling that my throat is closing up, but....I have pulmonary fibrosis. PF is listed as a disease probably associated with celiac disease. My celiac problemssss were exposed after I started taking prednisone and actimmune for the PF. So, the reason for my post is to suggest that if you are also having...
  8. Stick with the gluten-free diet....I had "relapses" several times during the first few weeks after going on a gluten-free diet, and I also had been very careful not to ingest any gluten. It took about a 3 - 4 weeks before I was confident that the diarrhea portion of my problem had been resolved.
  9. Please don't "freak out". The good news is that you already have the answer to your problem, and the solution is simply a gluten-free diet. No medicine side effects to deal with! My celiac disease was missed by 5 (five) doctors....thanks to forums like this, I self diagnosed, and my problems are resolving.
  10. I don't remember where I read the article, but in answer to "after damage by gluten/milk, how long before the villi and microvilli grow back?", the answer was "6 months to a year". In my personal case, the "D" persisted for at least a month, and then gradually got better. It all depends on how much damage was done, and probably also what triggered the...
  11. ADevoto....I agree with Deb. While I don't have any children living with me now, if my children had ever exhibited the symptoms that you mention, I would certainly have them go gluten-free for a couple of weeks. The symptoms that you mention are all listed as gluten reactions. The tests can be false neg or pos. You won't be endangering your children on...
  12. I live in central Florida, and there are several stores in the Orlando area that have a lot of gluten-free products. Most of the chain grocery stores do not contain many gluten-free products. However, check Open Original Shared Link for a list of "normal" food products that all grocery stores stock that are gluten-free. For example, some Progresso brand...
  13. Don't forget, ice is also suspect. This can be ice in drinks, or ice cooling foods, or anything that it has touched.
  14. Cortex.... By now you must realize that tooooo many people that suffer from celiac have found relief by self diagnosis. Everyone recognizes that this can be dangerous. However, I personally spent big bucks on lab tests and "specialists", and none of them ever came close to a diagnosis of celiac. You could do all of us a great favor, since most doctors...
  15. Quaker rice cakes (apple flavor) caused me to have SEVERE intestinal reaction which lasted for ten days.
