  1. i have to back on my gluten-free diet and im looking to goto my local health food store and stack up on some things. can anyone reccomend some great things to pick up? is there a list on here with the best bagels, cereals, muffin mixes, etc?
  2. can anyone reccomend an AWESOME gluten-free bagel, bread or english muffin?
  3. i just had this bloodwork done and im wondering how accurate it is. my allergist/immunologist said its very sensitive.
  4. my doctor removed 2 hives from my leg today to test for DH. how accurate is the test and how 'new' do the hives have to be in order for the test to be accurate? im asking bc he took 2. he took one itchy welt that was new from yesterday and an old one that looked like an ingrown hair of sorts.
  5. has anyone ever done this to test for a gluten or wheat sensitivity?
  6. if it says less than 0.35 for gluten, that means i'm not allergic to it, right? what are IGM levels and is there anyway to tell what IGE levels are actually causing reactions? i went to an allergist and he told me i was allergic to apples and bananas and i'm not.
  7. here were the results from last weeks bloodtest: igg - 1307 (normal range 700-1600) iga - 194 (normal range 70 - 400) IGM and IGE came back red: IGE - 331 (normal is under 25 IGM - 234 (normal is between 40 - 230) gluten - <0.35 (normal is 0.00 - 0.35)
  8. i just want to know WHAT causes the hives. doesnt food that have wheat in it always contain gluten as well? so a positive IgE DOES mean an allergy, right?
  9. I had an elevated IgE for wheat. Does that mean I am allergic? My doctor told me it was 'tricky.' that i tested negative for wheat but positive IgE for wheat. doesn't that mean im allergic to wheat?
  10. ive been trying very hard to get to the bottom of my hives and it seems they aren't going away; this is with a gluten-free diet of a week. i know it's only a week but i generally see vast improvement. i've been drinking a cheap wine and was wondering if it had wheat in it. i tried to google it but they dont have a website.
  11. then why does whole foods sell, 'gluten free wine?' the only reason i ask is because i saw it at whole foods, then googled it and it said it could.
  12. 1. does wine contain gluten? 2. i've been gluten-free for about a week now and STILL breaking out in hives. i am now wondering if it's this red wine i drink a couple a nights a week. 3. how do i know if the wine i drink has gluten? i looked online and it says some wines contain gluten.
  13. this was this morning. now they are red, and look like little bumps that i picked open.
  14. i just went to my regular GP and he did the bloodwork. i dont think it was done 'special' or anything? as far as the DH goes, it doesn't seem to be exact on the other leg.
  15. hmm. i had bloodwork done bc i've been chronically constipated my whole life. as of 3 years ago, i began developing hives; EVERYWHERE from the waist down only. not sure what you mean about bilaterally symetrical. i could upload a pic but i do not know how. they begin as large welts and then subside into smaller, redden bumps as the day goes on.
  16. my docs office today told me my wheat test was negative but my IgE levels were elevated so its 'tricky.' does this mean i have a wheat intolerance, etc? celiac maybe? i googled and it said celiac disease or atopic dermatitis. my legs are constantly breaking out in HUGE itchy welts.
  17. i have red welts (mosquito bite looking things) that are horrible when i first wake up. wondering if it has to blister to be dh.
  18. every doctor i've spoken to doesnt think they are related. this is when ALL my food issues began - the itching, hives, etc. once i cut the wheat out, i thought i felt an improvement.
  19. i was on a dose of antibiotics (doxycycline) for about 4 months and that is when my hives and all the food issues started. as long as i can remember (even my mother tells stories about how i never went to the bathroom) i was always bloated and always constipated. igg and iga came back negative, as did my endo. i have horrid hives on my legs and dont...
  20. went to the derm today and he said my 'hives' are not DH. he thinks i have chronic urticaria. i think he's an a**. i explained that i believe that wheat causes me to break out and he said i could have an allergy, not necessarily have celiac. i only get hives 'everywhere' (literally) from the waist down. they look like huge mosquito bites and then fade...

    ARCHIVED Columbia

i am going to columbia bc there is no derm, GI or GP that can help me! any suggestions as to whom i should see? the only two docs that take my empire insurance are: Suzanne K. Lewis, MD Christina Tennyson, MD or some on here suggested susie lee. will they be able to tell me if my chronic constipation/hives is due to an allergy or if it's celiac...
  22. how many 'days' or weeks of being wheat free does it take to see if i am in fact allergic to wheat? i break out in horrible clusters of hives (on my legs only) and am at a loss.
  23. i just got back from the dermatologist who told me it was chronic hives. WTH! i explained my digestive issues, allergy issues, everything. i feel like there is no hope. i didn't have any gluten yesterday and had a horrid flare-up this morning. by the time i got to the doc the welts were little, red bumps and he said that's not what DH looks like. I...
