ARCHIVED Celiac Plus No Dairy
stomica replied to karenwinslow1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! Well, we did the no dairy, no gluten diet for several months with my 3 1/2 year old daughter. It was tough, but not impossible. Actually, I found it harder to keep the dairy out of her diet than gluten! Anyway, what about soy ice cream and soy yogurt? My daughter wouldn't eat the soy yogurt at first, but now she loves it. I basically just mixed it with... -

ARCHIVED Negative Ttg And Ema...is That Conclusive Enough?
stomica posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 3 1/2 year old daughter has had poop issues (sorry for the bluntness!) since she was about 18 months old. She's been diagnosed with colitis through a colonoscopy. She's taking medication for colitis, which is a non-specific topical anti-inflammatory for the colon. She was tested for celiac but only the IgG's and IgA's were elevated. The other two more... -

Sorry you've had such a long few years with all the medical testing! My daughter, who's now 3 1/2 years old, has undergone similar things. They initially dx her with a milk allergy. The elimination diet did nothing. In fact, it made her worse. (Though now we suspect a wheat allergy or gluten sensitivity...taking her milk away caused her to eat more wheat... -
ARCHIVED Night Sweats, Night Terrors...when Did They Stop?
stomica posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter is 3 years old. She's always been a poor sleeper, rarely sleeping through the night. However, she's had night sweats frequently as well as night terrors almost nightly. She's a very restless sleeper! She was tested twice via bloodwork for celiac disease. Initially her IgG's were elevated (52), but the others were all negative. The ped GI feels... -
ARCHIVED How Young Can Cd Be Tested
stomica replied to stephanie23's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't really have any answers for you, but I wanted to add that allergy testing is not always accurate, especially for such a young child. Our allergist said prick/blood tests can help guide you, but elimination diet is the ONLY true test for food allergies. Food allergies can be associated with IgA or IgG response, not IgE response. Standard allergy testing... -
ARCHIVED Bracing For The Endoscopy
stomica replied to arismama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! My daughter had a colonoscopy when she was 26 months old. She was extremely anxious about being in the hospital with all the medical staff. They gave her some versed orally, which completely calmed her. (Actually, they gave it to me to give to her so she wouldn't be afraid.) She just watched as they inserted the iv. NO crying. NO anxiety. My husband and... -
ARCHIVED Please Help!
stomica replied to momof2boys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! I feel for you, since we've gone through something very similar. My daughter started having loose stools around 17 months. All bloodwork and stool tests were negative. We saw an allergist, who thought she had a dairy intolerance. The dairy elimination diet didn't work. In fact, she become worse. She actually had some trace amounts of blood in her stool... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Test's
stomica replied to jjrobin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think people are misunderstanding your question. We just went through this so maybe I can help. Our ped GI just ran the immunoglobulins as well. IgE's are most often correlated with allergies. However, you can also have allergic reations with IgA's and IgG's - those are usually delayed reactions. My daughter's IgA's were double the normal amount. The allergist... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Question...
stomica replied to stomica's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for all the info! Yes my daughter does have symptoms, but she was actually diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. I still am a bit skeptical about the diagnosis, so I find myself questioning other possibilities. Her ped GI said she could have celiac in addition to IBD so that's why she's been tested. Her symptoms include loose, foul stools with... -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Question...
stomica replied to stomica's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So you're saying if the endomysial antibody is positive, along with the anti-gliadin IgG...then celiac is almost certain? Well, my daughter's EMA was negative on two different occasions. Funny, the allergist said that many people can have elevated anti-gliadin IgG's, but the IgA's were the ones that were most correlated with celiac. I would definitely be... -
My 3 year old daughter was tested for celiac about 6 months ago...the antigliadin IgA's and IgG's were both elevated but the reticulin and endomysial antibodies were negative. Because the antigliadin antibodies were elevated, the ped GI wanted to retest her, which we just did last week. Course they performed different tests this time, so we're unable to compare...

ARCHIVED What Are Systems Of Gluten Intolerance?
stomica replied to deannalvivian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just a general question since you're both talking about skin reactions...can celiac cause eczema? My daughter has it, mostly around her mouth, and it seems to be getting worse. We haven't gone gluten-free yet because the ped gi wanted to retest her bloodwork...her igA's and igG's were elevated but the other two were negative. Anyway, just curious! Thanks... -
ARCHIVED Intro And Question
stomica replied to ILhsmomof3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi! You mentioned you went to the doc because of some bleeding...just wondering what kind of bleeding your son experienced? I just ask because my daughter had some blood/mucous in her stool and the ped GI said that celiac does NOT cause blood in the stool. What did your say? Thanks! Sue -
ARCHIVED Conflicting Diagnoses?
stomica replied to gigimom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just wanted to add something in the doctors' defense...my 3 year old daughter has been undergoing testing the past year for loose, foul smelling stools. We've seen two peds, two ped GI's and an allergist. She had a colonoscopy which showed colitis. Amongst many other tests, they did the celiac panel which showed elevated IgA's and IgG's, though the other... -
ARCHIVED Sleep Issues Related To Celiac?
stomica replied to stomica's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So there's hope for me yet! We still have to get the bloodwork done, I'm just dragging my feet. I'll start the gluten free diet within the next few weeks. Here's hoping it works in all areas! Thanks! Sue -
ARCHIVED Sleep Issues Related To Celiac?

My 2 1/2 year old daughter hasn't formally been diagnosed with celiac, though her anti-gliadin IgA's and IgG's were both elevated. (The other two were negative.) She's going to be retested via blood work again in the next few weeks. I was just wondering if any of you have found a connection between sleep and gluten. She's a horrible sleeper! She goes to sleep... -

Hey Amy! My 2 1/2 year old daughter has been undergoing testing for the past 9 months. Her symptoms were loose, foul stools 2-3 x day. She had the celiac panel done last February, which showed elevated IgA's and IgG's, though the other two (which are more specific) were negative. We've seen several docs, including two ped GI's, an excellent allergist and... -
ARCHIVED Could My 2yo Have Celiac?
stomica replied to TaylorsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just shaking my head reading your post...sounds just like daughter! She's 2 1/2 years old, but we've had poop issues the past year. She's had intermittent loose stools, horribly foul smelling. She's very clingy and has never slept through the night as well. She seems to have nightmares frequently and always wakes screaming. I'm still not sure if her... -
ARCHIVED Is Bleeding A Symptoms?
stomica posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just wondering if bleeding is a common symptom of celiac disease? Sounds as if plain ole diarrhea or constipation are the main symptoms. My daughter has had trace amounts of blood on occasion in her stools on/off for the past year now. She's 2 1/2 years old. We had her tested and the IgA's and the IgG's were positive, but the other two were negative... -
ARCHIVED What Symptoms Did Your Little One Have?
stomica posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I was just curious as to what symptoms your little ones had...my 2 1/2 year old has had loose stools with mucous and infrequent, trace amounts of blood for about a year now. She's pale with dark cirlces. She was dx with a milk allergy, followed by IBD, but I'm seriously questioning the dx. Anyway, her blood tests came back (+) for IgG and IgA antibodies for... -
ARCHIVED Mucousy Stools A Symptom?
stomica replied to stomica's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter's only symptoms are mushy, mucousy stools, usually 2 x day. Rarely, she'll complain of tummy pain right before she poops. She's taking azulfidine, which she's been on for two months. I have no idea what's causing them...I still question the UC diagnosis. Who knows! I hope you're doing well. Keep in touch! -
ARCHIVED Mucousy Stools A Symptom?
stomica posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter who is now 2 1/2 was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in January after a colonoscopy. Her main symptoms were loose stools (2 x day) with lots of mucous and, infrequently, traces of blood. She's been on the meds for her colitis for two months now, though I don't see any change in her stools. The ped GI tested her stool and found no blood as well... -
ARCHIVED Difference Between Wheat Allergy And Cd?

Hi! I'm new here and just had a few questions. My two and a half year old daughter has had loose stools with lots of mucous for the past year. I've also seen a tiny amount of blood mixed with mucous on an INFREQUENT basis. Anyway, she was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in January after undergoing a colonoscopy. She had mild inflammation throughout the...
