Amy, Cool. Good. I am glad you found a doctor there. There is also a Whole Foods and TJ's in Jenkintown, I think. Oh, PA was just a joke. I grew up there and went to school there. I love the place, but the smoke drives me nuts:) Other than that, I have very found memories. Plus, my entire family lives there. You are going to have a blast at Penn...

Amy, Awesome! That sounds fabulous:) What doctor are you going to see in Philadelphia? What triathalon group? I think there is also a good celiac support group there too! You should have a blast:) LB

Amy, If you are really that tired after a 3 mile run, I would head to your Celiac doctor!!! I can't give advice on biking - I am slow, slow, slow. And, lastly, why the hel* are you moving to PA? JK. (I can check with my mom who lives in PA - I think there is a good celiac doc in center city Philly at Jefferson). Oh yea, when your tired from your...

Trader Joes in SD. La Jolla - 858-546-8629 Pacific Beach - 858-272-7235 They have gluten free food. Lisa -
Amy, My energy levels bounce all around, believe me. If you are on a gluten free diet, have normal iron levels, and are absorbing minerals and vitamins from your food, you should be OK. I find myself always hungry since when I eat my body (brain) just doesn't absorb all of the nutrients from the food. When I was anemic, I was sleeping and tired all of...

lisabarella replied to vickirenee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Tests Said Two Different Things
lisabarella replied to dobee13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Who interpreted your biopsy? The doctor or the lab? I found out recently that sometimes the lab doctors aren't as good at interpreting Celiacs as the actual GI doctor. Basically, your GI could interpret the pictures and tissue samples differently. This just happened to me. Did you GI actually look all all of the slides himself or did he just go by the... -
Hey all, I have called a couple companies regarding their products. Hammer Gel is gluten-free; Gu is gluten-free; Gu H20 sports drink it gluten-free; Ultima is gluten-free (electrolye replacement). During running I use GU and Ultima. On the bike, I eat rice bread with penut butter or soy butter (cut up and stuff in my bento box). I am also a big fan of...

Yes, I believe so. My little brother Chris was interested too and supposedly, the military can not support Celiacs - they can't feed them!. I think there was a article earlier this year in "Lifeline"? I would just email the Air Force recruiting center directly. ARCHIVED Vce - Video Capsule Endoscopy
lisabarella replied to lisabarella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey all, thanks for all of your replies. I have had 2 biopsies - both confirming Celiacs - but since I am still malabosrbing - they need more information. There is still inflamation, and somewhat flattened villi. Basically, they are hoping with the VCE that they will be able to RULE out other possible diseases such as Chrons, etc., while also finding out... -
ARCHIVED Vce - Video Capsule Endoscopy
lisabarella replied to lisabarella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Cool. Thank you for all of the replies. I am having it done at Stanford and I will check out the links that you sent. I have already had two biopsy and a VCE takes about 8,000 pictures over the course of 8 hours or so. The doctors are hoping that it will provide more answers to my malabsorption. Thanks, Lisa -
Deanna, You NEED to find a good celiac doctor. Where do you live? I am 29 and I self dignosised this by going to my hemotologist with a list of blood tests that I wanted to test for. You need to do the same. Don't stop until you find a doctor that will help you. I will keep you in my prayers and I can refer you to some good doctors in California (South...

lisabarella posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Has anyone had this procedure? Just curious. I am most likely having it done this month to try to find out why I am still malabsorbing after being on a strick gluten free diet for 1 year. It would be cool to talk with someone who has had success with it. It is a very new procedure. Open Original Shared Link Lisa -

I would like to propose that a new topic SECTION be added. Could we add something like, "Exercise and Sports"? I think it would be interesting to discuss types of food used during exercise (hikes, long runs, bike rides, etc) and mental and physical feelings during and after exercise. I am curious to see if other Celiacs have similiar feelings and reactions...

ARCHIVED Wheat Grass, Is It Ok?
lisabarella replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I am trying to understand wheat grass and barely grass. Are they gluten free or not? I recently emailed Organic Food Bar since all of their bars indicate "gluten free". I always read the labels even if it is stated. On 2 of thier bars I saw, "wheat grass powder", so I emailed them. Their response is below: Lisa, We make 7 bars. 2 have wheat... -

Interesting! I just read Gottschall's book, 'Breaking the Vicious Cycle' where they elaborated on the SCD. I found it fascinating and was thinking of trying it myself. -

ARCHIVED Sunscreen
lisabarella replied to hapi2bgf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If a sunscreen has gluten in it and you apply it to your skin then it can be absorbed through your skin. For example, when you are in the sun, you absorb vitamin D through your skin and right into your blood stream (from what I understand). So, the same concept applies with other things that touch your skin. Call Banana Boat. I believe that they have... -
Yes, Yes, Yes. Go see Dr. Gary Gray at Stanford. He is amazing and one of the best in the country. Very personable and willing to tackle anything. Lisa

ARCHIVED Nutritional Deficiencies
lisabarella replied to tammy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Check with your doctor even if you are on a gluten free diet and feel fine. I have been on a gluten free diet since July 18, 2003. My stomach feels fine, but I am anemic. I take 325 Mg of iron 3 times a day and it does not get absorbed. They conducted three tests, a fecal fat, xylose absoption, and albumin. All three were NOT normal. This means that...
