ARCHIVED Anyone Celiac With An Eating Disorder?
Lux replied to citykatmm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey there, I am also a recovering anorexic, recently diagnosed with Celiac...I was absolutely certain that there was a link in there somewhere...perhaps, for me, it was due to the kinds of foods I was restricting myself to (small helpings of zero fat pasta on its own, every night for dinner for about four years)...perhaps this contributed to creating/worsening... -
Thankyou so much all for your replies! I certainly considered GERD, but don't have any of the other symptoms (heartburn, chest pains, etc) which point to it...it's just the fact that it has been going on for over a week now that I find it so strange. I will certainly try some antacids, though, and see if that works! (are they gluten free??)

OK, so here's the thing: I have been gluten, dairy, soy and wheat free since Feb this year, and my symptoms have been improving remarkably. I was diagnosed, only a week ago, with IBS (as well as celiac disease). Just over the last week, I have started to develop this strange new symptom (which I have experienced only one other time on my life for an ongoing...

OKay, I'm curious - when you say "reaction", I realize it could be any one of a hundred different things...but (and I'm sorry to be getting into the gory details here), what, specifically are you referring to? (this question is for everyone, but specifically for those who have a hard time with dates...) When I eat them, if unheated, I tend to experience a...

You could maybe try replacing them with nuts (if you're not allergic??) I adore cashews. O, and seeds - pumpkin seeds, sunflowers seeds are fantastic...

ARCHIVED Energy - Never Seem To Have Enough
Lux replied to laura3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
O, the other thing I wanted to mention is that, since introducing flax seed oil into my diet, I have experienced a huge energy increase...I take 2 Tbs each day, usually poured over brown rice or veges...:-) -
ARCHIVED Energy - Never Seem To Have Enough
Lux replied to laura3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Laura, I also live in NZ and have found it particularly difficult finding anyone with specialized knowledge regarding celiac disease. I have to say that, particularly since going gluten-free, alcohol has been a big don't-go-there zone. I actually had begun to suspect that this was due to a sulfite issue (I have a big prob with sulfites), but I wouldn... -
Hightop girl, I know what you mean. I simply refused to give up dates. They were causing me problems, but I love them so much...so I experimented, and finally came up with a way in which I can eat them. Do you find that it needs to be something quite sweet (as I do)? Before going dairy/soy free, I was completely infatuated with a particular brand of organic...

Sorry - I would always check the labelling, though - just to be sure!! -
ARCHIVED Tuna Fish
Lux replied to Wakeboarder's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey :-) I love tuna fish, and I eat it (tinned) every day. I don't eat soy, so I find that I can't buy any of the flavoured versions, but generally it's fine if you just buy it in springwater... -
Even though they are certainly expanding the gluten-free range available in NZ, I am yet to find any pretzels that I can eat I would imagine (or at the least hope!) that the situation would be somewhat better in the UK, simply because there is a (much) larger population to cater for :-) Pre gluten-free, I was obsessed with lollies. I was at the...

Hi Anna, I'm sorry that I can't offer an explanation for this, but I can relate to how you're feeling. The exact same thing has been happening to me, right before I get my period. Luckily, in my case, it tends to peeter out by the time I actually get it, but all the same, I end up feeling awful for a good few days beforehand. I take Slippery Elm to sooth...

Bunnie - I am dying to find some gluten-free pretzels as they are the one thing I truely miss before going gluten-free (even though one of my last unfortunate experiences with the big G was a result of eating pretzels. I was so blocked up I could barely breathe). I currently live in New Zealand (can't find any here), but will be moving to the UK within the...

I also crave veges...particularly spinach leaves. The salt theory is interesting; I tend to not crave salty foods so much, as I *add* salt to just about everything. I definitely think our bodies tell us when we aren't giving it enough/too much of of something. At the same time, I find that I start to actually crave many of the foods that I eat all the...

The similarities are interesting! So let me ask you this - what kinds of food did these replace? (as in, which foods were you addicted to pre-diagnosis?) Do you find that the addictive foods you eat now are more or less healthy than those you craved before? (I'm almost positive that most answers to this will be a yes, seeing as, for the most part, I...

Does brown rice just not taste healthy?? In a good way...I love it.

O, peanut butter! Now you're giving me ideas...they hurt my stomach until I tried throwing them in the microwave for 30 seconds; now I can eat them and I feel fine! (okay, with very mild rumblings if I eat an entire bag - but that is based on the action of having eaten an entire bag ;-)) I also went through a sweet potato kick - until I realized I couldn...

Megra - I'm also obsessed with rice! I have recently converted from white to brown (which has created a notable effect on some of my symptoms :-))..but also, I had a thing with hummus recently - I would add it to everything. Including rice. My latest thing is mustard. I have been putting it on everything. My sister told me she thinks I have the strangest...

So I'm just wonderin - does anyone out there on the gluten-free diet have any particular food "addictions" - ie a specific food you practically subsist on? OR a food (that you can eat) which you crave? I've cut out gluten, dairy and soy - and I have developed this strange obsession with dates (oddly, they have to be zapped in the microwave, or my stomach...

ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac? I Am Confused
Lux replied to TruckerBird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Birdie, I am in the same boat as you - positive bloodwork, negative biopsy - and I have been gluten-free for just over a month now. It is astounding what a difference it has made. Remember as well that it is quite common to find that you are sensitive to other things (I cannot tolerate soy, sulfites or casein) during the first wee while of recovery... -
Hey all, I just want to thank you all so much for your input. The gallbladder theory is extremely interesting; I'm definitely thinking there could be something to it! The thing is, the bunny wasn't a huge one - about the equivalent of a medium sized easter egg (I have no idea how much it weighed). Perhaps that is a lot of chocolate for most people; not...

But would it be nausea that lasted over a period of four days? With vomiting (sorry for being so explicit) on the third?
-
So the other night, I had a Cadbury Creme Egg, followed by a chocolate bunny. I checked the labels and, even though they both apparently contain glucose syrup, there was no indication of it being made from wheat - which I believe must be mentioned on the packaging anyway (as it is in the US). Anyway, I was chronically nauseus for the entire following day...

What do you attribute your insomnia to, sickchick? How long have you experienced it, and do you think that whatever sleeping pattern you fall into for any one night is a result of something you've eaten? Thanks!!!!!
