  1. I love cooking and Asian food is definitely my favorite, along with my family. I've been looking for new recipes and have found a ton that could easily be made gluten-free. I just came across one problem- hoisin sauce. Every store I have checked has many different brands of the stuff yet every single one had wheat. I guess soy sauce is a main ingredient and...
  2. Okay, So this is going to sound sort of stupid. But what are nightshades? And I know legumes are beans but what else is under that category? I've read about people living without those and never really knew what they were. Hehehe.
  3. At McDonald's I usually get a salad. The first time I went there after being diagnosed I got the asian salad and poured the dressing all over the salad without even thinking. I read the back of the package as I was about to take a bite and saw that there was wheat in it. I took the salad and everything back up to the counter and told a worker that I had just...
  4. 1. I felt horrible everyday. Missed tons of school. It was difficult to deal with anything such as car rides, sleepovers, because I didn't know what to avoid. I ate pretzels constantly because they made me feel better at the moment. Little did I know that the pretzels were what was making me sick the next day which is why I would eat even more of them. Vicious...
  5. I crush up Envirokids Gorilla Munch cereal for breading on chicken tenders. Dip the chicken into gluten-free flour. Then in an egg with some milk and then into the cereal. Put on a greased baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. The cereal adds a lot of flavor without adding anymore spices.
  6. I've been searching for a gluten-free couscous but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know of any?
  7. I've been searching for a good gluten-free all-purpose flour for quite a while and haven't had much luck. I know many people make their own blends but to me it would be easier to buy one. I've tried Bob's Red Mill but noticed a weird texture or something. I don't know. Something wasn't right with it. I was wondering if anyone has found a good reliable gluten...
  8. These posts opened up a whole new world to me! I would have never noticed they were gluten free. Thank you so much. It's like a blast from my gluten filled past.
  9. thank you so much! these are great ideas. =)
  10. I need some help but I'm going to ask for it all in one post. 1-What do some of you guys do to relax? This disease has me so stressed (school etc.) which is adding to the stomach ache! Any ideas? 2-Does anyone have any ways to relieve pain? I get pain whenever I eat. Anyone else in the same boat? Sort of feel alone on this. What could take the pain...
  11. Have you tried a heating pad? That might help. Using one of those while knitting or something like that may help a little.
  12. I can't believe you feel it too! I've had that since I went gluten free and have had no relief. It makes me feel so happy to know I'm not the only one! If you find anything that helps, please let me know!!!
  13. My doctor mentioned that some people with Celiac also have a skin disease. I guess they go hand in hand. I was wondering if anyone knew what this was and what it feels like. Any info you have would be great! Thanks...
  14. Hey Guys! Sort of new to this thing. I was eating a vegetable soup today and didn't even think to read the label. Wheat in vegetable soup? I thought, no way! So I had a few bites and realized how stupid I was. The very last ingredient was wheat. But now I know the pain will come later. I was wondering if anyone knows what to do in this case? I had...
  15. Thanks! You guys are so helpful. If you have any tips or anything like that let me know!
  16. I was diagnosed about a month ago. I'm sort of having a hard time adjusting. I don't mind the food or anything like that. I like a lot of the gluten-free foods better! It's just hard with school and stuff. I'm the only one in my family right now. I think the rest of my family knows they need to get tested soon too. If there is gluten in the shampoo and conditioner...
  17. Hey! Just wondering if anyone has any great gluten-free recipes. Dinner or desert preferably. I've gotten into baking and cooking a lot in the past gluten-free month. Let me know! Thanks.
  18. Ever since I've been diagnosed, I've adjusted my eating habits and everything. I'm careful about what I eat and what I can't eat. The thing that gets me is that no one understands. I get stomach aches usually all the time. Everyone thinks that I just can't eat gluten but I should be fine. No one understand that I actually feel pain very often. People think...
  19. I have been just fine with the Quaker Rice Cakes. They're pretty much the only thing that I sure about. I've been using them in place of bread too. Haven't been able to find a tasty gluten-free bread yet. The rice cakes should be fine though.
  20. If you get pain from eating foods with gluten, isn't it enough to know that by not eating gluten you're allowing yourself to feel better? I think it's worth it to go that extra step and not eat gluten if you're saving yourself from a lot of pain. I get very sick when I eat gluten. Yeah, I miss pizza and stuff but I've found ways to go around it. Brown rice...
  21. I have the exact same problems!!! I'm new to the site and the disease also. I miss real pizza, you know? I also can't seem to find any bread or crackers that taste normal. As for now, I've been putting peanut butter and jelly on rice cakes but I know that will get old fast. I've found it entertaining and satisfying to make my own food. I bought a cookbook...
  22. I went to McDonalds and got the Asian Salad. I put the dressing on and was about to take a bite as I was reading the package. I found out the salad dressing that came with had gluten in it. I brought it back to the counter and told them I have an allergy to wheat. The man gave me a new salad and gluten-free dressings to choose from. He was really great about...
  23. I was diagnosed about a month ago. Whenever I eat I get terrible stomach aches. It also happens when I don't seem to eat. I have lost weight and it kills me but I hate the stomach ache when I do eat. I still eat but it's very painful. I know it's supposed to get better with time but what do I do until then? It's affecting my social life and more importantly...
